Aren't they still using material written by Carlivati? Why do I recall something being said about September being the proper kick-off to their original stories?

ARTICLE: Ron Carlivati Confirms Exit As Breakdown Writer At ‘Beyond The Gates,’ Plans To “Pursue Other Projects”
Shortly after news of his exit as a breakdown writer at “Beyond the Gates” was first reported by Soap Opera Network, Emmy Award-winning writer Ron Carlivati confirmed his decision to depart the daytime drama series in a post on his Instagram stories timeline, indicating his plans to “pursue other projects.” “I recently wrapped my stint as a writer on ‘Beyond the Gates,’ the hot new soap opera on CBS created by the incomparable Michele Val Jean,” said Carlivati in his post. “When Michele called last August and asked me to join her team, I jumped at the chance to be a part of the launch of this grounding breaking historic show.” “After recently finishing Season One (200 episodes!), I decided to leave to pursue other projects, but I am BEYOND proud of what we accomplished and BEYOND grateful to Michele and to Executive Producer Sheila Ducksworth for this extraordinary opportunity,” Carlivati continued. “Wishing them and everyone at ‘Beyond the Gates’ a long and successful run. xoxo Ron.” In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Val Jean, who, in addition to creating the soap opera, also serves as showrunner, executive producer and head writer, shared her gratitude to Carlivati for stepping in to help when she reached out. “So grateful to have had @carlivatiron in the writers room to help launch #BeyondTheGates,” she said in her post. “We send him off with love and gratitude and wish him all the best in whatever comes next. Love you, Ron! And thank you from my heart.” Carlivati’s exit marks the second major change among the show’s writing team following the exit of Robert Guza Jr. (“General Hospital,” “Sunset Beach”) as co-head writer earlier this year after he fulfilled the terms of his contract. Tracey Thomson (“The Young and the Restless,” “Secrets of Sulphur Springs”) was brought in as Guza’s successor, both as co-head writer and executive producer, one of eight. In her role, Thomson works with Val Jean in crafting the show’s long-term story. Before joining “Beyond the Gates,” Carlivati previously served as head writer at “Days of our Lives,” “General Hospital,” and “One Life to Live,” the latter of which won him his first-ever Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing Team for a Daytime Drama Series in 2008. During his “General Hospital” run (2012-2015), the show won the Writers Guild Award for Daytime Drama for two consecutive years, winning in 2015 (for the 2014 calendar year) and 2016 (for the 2015 calendar year). During his run at “Days of our Lives,” Carlivati and his team of writers netted four consecutive Writers Guild Awards for Daytime Drama (2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024). In 2018, he and his team also won an Emmy for Outstanding Writing Team for a Daytime Drama Series. With writing work for “Beyond the Gates” four to six months ahead of taping, don’t expect to see changes on-screen until at least early 2026. In the case of Guza, his name should remain in the credits through fall 2025. In May, CBS renewed “Beyond the Gates” for a second season. - ARTICLE: ‘Beyond The Gates’ Returns Within Range Of Normal Averages, Several Shows See Week-To-Week Gains Among Total Viewers – RATINGS
Returning with all-new episodes after a week of repeats, “Beyond the Gates” continued to perform within its normal averages among Total Viewers (1.539 million), Households (1.0 rating), Women 18-49 (0.20 rating) and Women 25-54 (0.32 rating) during the week of July 7-11, 2025. For the week, the CBS drama series once again topped time slot competitor “General Hospital” in both Women 18-49 (0.20 rating vs. 0.17 rating) and Women 25-54 (0.32 rating vs. 0.28 rating). Since the two last aired opposite each other with original episodes during the week of June 23-27, 2025, “Beyond the Gates” was flat among Women 18-49 (0.20 rating) while “General Hospital” saw a decline (0.17 rating vs. 0.19 rating). Meanwhile, among Women 25-54, “Beyond the Gates” was slightly down from that particular week (0.32 rating vs. 0.33 rating), while “General Hospital” again saw a decline (0.32 rating vs. 0.28 rating). Despite the downward trend in the key demos, “General Hospital” did manage to increase its viewership week-to-week, up +80,000 (1.920 million vs. 1.840 million), and saw a mere -12,000 viewer decline year-over-year among Total Viewers (1.920 million vs. 1.932 million), which was the smallest drop across daytime broadcast. “The Bold and the Beautiful” gained +101,000 viewers compared to its week ago performance, averaging 2.545 million, and also saw a gain among Women 18-49 (0.23 rating vs. 0.20 rating). The half-hour soap was flat week-to-week among Women 25-54 (0.38 rating). Meanwhile, “The Young and the Restless” also saw a week-to-week gain among Total Viewers, albeit a small one, up +12,000 (2.935 million vs. 2.917 million). “TODAY with Jenna & Friends” NBC News Following a week of repeats, “The View” also returned to originals, averaging a 0.24 rating among Women 18-49 and a 0.32 rating among Women 25-54, while the rebranded “GMA3” marked a 14-week high among Total Viewers (since March 31-April 4, 2025), averaging 1.321 million viewers. The third hour of “Good Morning America” managed to see a rare increase year-over-year, up +14,000 viewers (1.321 million vs. 1.307 million). Elsewhere, “TODAY with Jenna & Friends” hit yet another new series low among Total Viewers, averaging just 1.067 million for the week. In fact, not only did the show place last for the first time among Total Viewers, it was also the first time “NBC News Daily” averaged more viewers than the fourth hour of the “TODAY” brand. Wrap-Up What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of July 7-11, 2025 among Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a week-to-week and year-over-year performance comparison. Note*: Figures under the 2024 column for “Beyond the Gates” are compared to the performance of the former time slot occupant, “The Talk,” which aired amended repeats during the comparable week last year. “TODAY with Jenna & Friends” is compared with the performance of its predecessor, “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna.” Meanwhile, “GMA3” is compared with the performance of its predecessor, “GMA3: What You Need to Know.” With the game show airing amended repeats, demos for “Let’s Make a Deal” were not reported by Nielsen, although Households and Total Viewers were available. EXCLUSIVE: On Tuesday, July 22, the third episode of the “Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart” podcast drops and features an interview with “Beyond the Gates” executive producer Sheila Ducksworth. In an exclusive clip, Ducksworth responds to a question brought by Rebecca Budig (Taylor Hayes, “The Bold and the Beautiful”), wherein she asks how being a fan informs decisions on the direction the daytime drama takes, including its characters and how they represent today’s viewers, specifically people of color. Sheila Ducksworth, Rebecca Budig, Greg Rikaart CBS “All those things are really important because they’re really real, they’re true, and they were part of my world, and I wanted to not only tell something that was familiar to me, but I think familiar to a lot of people,” said Ducksworth in response. “For people which it’s not familiar, for them to get familiar with it so that they can have some understanding of just different cultures and different perspectives. That’s the beauty of this.” “I was starting to say it’s people who might live behind the gates and not, age and gender, and all kinds of things,” continued Ducksworth. “We wanted to really kind of have a platform for all kinds of stories so that it was just, everyone felt like, or we’re hoping anyway, that people would feel like, ‘Oh, this reminds me of me or this reminds me of my aunt,’ or whatever the case may be.” “In a really, really broad sense, and that’s what I mean when I say just the universality of these themes that we’re actually mining for the show. We want people to actually look at this and see themselves. So, I feel like because so many different kinds of people, I think, comment on the show and comment to me personally, who are from all walks of life. I feel like we’ve really done a great job with that. That makes me feel really good.” Watch our exclusive look at Sheila Ducksworth on “Soapy” below. In a separate clip released ahead of tomorrow’s full episode, Ducksworth expands on her statements, saying, “We’ve had some pretty big juicy stories, and that’s the great thing, too, about the show, is that we’ve wanted it to feel really accessible to everybody.” She added, “There’s some specificity, obviously, to the show. But what we’re really dealing in and dwelling in is universality. We’re dealing with people who live inside the gates as well as people who live outside the gates. We have our matriarch and our patriarch, with Tamara Tunie [Anita Dupree] and with Clifton Davis [Vernon Dupree], and we are so fortunate.” Sheila Ducksworth CBS “We were so specific about what we wanted and we’re fortunate enough to find the people that we found to populate this world, no small task to Kim Coleman, who is our casting director, and obviously, a lot of participation ultimately from CBS and CBS Studios, Claudia Lyon [EVP, Talent and Casting] and Dana Pine [VP, Casting] and everybody there,” Ducksworth continued. “It’s been a real kind of like everybody, you know, kind of roll up their sleeves and wrap their arms around, what is this cast going to look like and what’s the feel of it going to be. But we are very fortunate to get Tamara Tunie as well as Clifton Davis. I mean, just legends. And they lead this family like nobody else could as the matriarch and the patriarch.” Hosted by Rebecca Budig (“The Bold and the Beautiful”) and Greg Rikaart (“Days of our Lives”), “Soapy” is a new audio and video podcast that dives deep into the legacy, fandom, and enduring appeal of soap operas. Available on Audacy or wherever podcasts are found, full video episodes are released every Tuesday through September 30 on the CBS brand YouTube channel. The podcast premiered on Tuesday, July 8, with an episode featuring guest Eric Braeden (Victor Newman, “The Young and the Restless”). The second episode, released on July 15, features an interview with Deidre Hall (Marlena Evans, “Days of our Lives”). The fourth episode airs on Tuesday, July 29, and will feature an interview with Lauralee Bell (Christine Blair, “The Young and the Restless”). “We decided, since we knew each other so well, that we should interview all the people that we know, and people that we don’t know, in this genre,” said Budig in the first-ever episode of “Soapy,” explaining why she and Rikaart decided to do the podcast. Chiming in, Rikaart noted, the podcast was also a way to “celebrate our genre, coming from a place of love and reverence, and respect, for the incredibly challenging, hard and fun work that we get to do in daytime soaps.” Additional episodes will include interviews with Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos, “General Hospital”), Tracey Bregman (Lauren Fenmore, “The Young and the Restless”), Marc Cherry (Creator, “Desperate Housewives”), Scott Clifton (Liam Spencer, “The Bold and the Beautiful”), Eva LaRue (Natalia Ramirez, “General Hospital”), Christian LeBlanc (Michael Baldwin, “The Young and the Restless”), Cameron Mathison (Drew Cain, “General Hospital”), Karla Mosley (Dani Dupree, “Beyond the Gates”), Lawrence Saint-Victor (Carter Walton, “The Bold and the Beautiful”), Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman, “The Young and the Restless”), Heather Tom (Katie Logan, “The Bold and the Beautiful”) and Tamara Tunie. Produced by the Paramount Multiplatform Production Group, “Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart” is executive produced by Mike Benson. Andrew Pemberton-Fowler serves as producer. Although from a storyline perspective it would make more sense for her to join the cast of “General Hospital” as her former “One Life to Live” character, a “rumor report” shared by Daytime Confidential last week indicates that Erika Slezak could be playing someone other than the iconic Victoria Lord Buchanan when she lands in Port Charles later this year. According to the outlet, while ABC remains mum on Slezak’s upcoming role on the long-running drama series, the actress will be playing a brand new character when she returns to soaps. In this case, appearing as the long-lost sister of Dr. Monica Quartermaine (played until 2023 by the late Leslie Charleson). Should Slezak join the cast as a relative of Monica’s, it would mark the first time since the character’s introduction in 1976 (then played by Patsy Rahn) that the soap opera would establish a sibling for her, considering Monica was known to have been an orphan raised by Gail Baldwin (played by the late Susan Brown) with no direct family ties introduced beyond her cousin Lorena Sharpe Barrington (Shelley Taylor Morgan). Word of Slezak joining “General Hospital” first came to light last month when the six-time Emmy Award winner announced her return to soaps on her website. “Erika has just informed me she has signed a short-term contract with ABC’s ‘General Hospital,’” read a statement released by Slezak’s official fan club president at the time. “At this time, Erika does not know which character she will be playing or when her scenes will air, but is excited to be working again with Executive Producer Frank Valentini and the cast of GH!” Valentini later confirmed the news on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “I am thrilled to confirm that my dear friend and former ‘One Life to Live’ colleague, Erika Slezak, will appear on @GeneralHospital this Fall. Stay tuned as we prepare to introduce another daytime legend to Port Charles.” It’s unknown when Slezak will begin taping episodes at Prospect Studios in Hollywood, where the show’s production is based. A first air date was also not revealed at press time. In the years since “One Life to Live” went off the air in January 2012, Slezak went on to reprise her role from the show for the short-lived 2013 online revival that was produced by Prospect Park Networks, which at the time had landed the exclusive licensing rights to the show’s characters. The company went on to sue ABC, accusing the network of looking to create a “mega soap” scheme following the network’s use of key “One Life to Live” characters on “General Hospital.” Prospect Park Networks had been seeking more than $95 million in damages. By December 2012, the lawsuit had been dismissed, with the rights to both the “One Life to Live” brand and characters returning to ABC, along with the rights to the “All My Children” brand and characters. Playing Viki on “One Life to Live” for more than 40 years, Slezak won six Emmy Awards, each in the category of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Daytime Drama Series, earning the most wins of any individual actress. By 2018, Slezak would make her first appearance after the dual cancellations of “One Life to Live,” playing the role of Helen in an episode of “The Resident.” She followed that up with an appearance in the May 3, 2019 episode of “Blue Bloods, playing the role of Donna Duvall. She again reprised the role in the January 6, 2023 episode In 2021, Slezak made her Hallmark Channel original movie debut, appearing alongside soap alums Lyndsy Fonseca (“The Young and the Restless”) and Chandler Massey (“Days of our Lives”) in “Next Stop, Christmas.” Lea Thompson (“Back to the Future”) and Christopher Lloyd (“Back to the Future”) also starred in the holiday movie. Slezak and her husband, Brian Davies, sadly lost their daughter, Amanda Elizabeth Davies, in January 2024. Best known for her starring role as Lisa Miller (later Lisa Grimaldi) on CBS' "As The World Turns," soap opera icon Eileen Fulton has died. She was 91 years old. According to an obituary posted by Groce Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Asheville, North Carolina, Fulton passed away on July 14, 2025, following a period of declining health. Born Margaret Elizabeth McLarty in Asheville on September 13, 1933, Fulton received a bachelor's degree in music in 1956, with performances in the outdoor drama "The Lost Colony" in Manteo, NC, before eventually moving to New York to pursue acting. Fulton first made a name for herself as an actor in 1959, appearing in at least two episodes of the TV show "True Story." However, it was her role as Lisa on "As The World Turns" that made her a star, playing the role from 1960-2010, with only the show's cancellation separating her from the character. In 1988, Fulton received her first-ever Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama Series. Although she didn't take home the coveted award, by 2004, Fulton was recognized for her work in daytime when she was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at "The 31st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards." In November 2021, Fulton made an appearance on "The Locher Room" to discuss her 50 years on "As The World Turns," including how she helped establish the soap "vixen" role and playing one-half of the first-ever super couple with Don Hastings (Bob Hughes). Services for Fulton will be held on August 9, 2025 at the Central United Methodist Church. Fulton is survived by her brother, Charles Furman McLarty (Karen) of Black Mountain; niece Katherine Morris (David) and their children, Everly Ann Morris and Easton Lane Morris of Fort Mill, S.C.; and sister-in-law Chris Page McLarty of Camden, Maine. She was predeceased by her parents, James B. McLarty and Margaret Glenn McLarty, and her brother, James Fulton McLarty. Watch Fulton's appearance on "The Locher Room" below. Also exiting the soap are writers Lynn Martin and Christopher Dunn; Jazmen Darnell Brown announces return to the writing team.- Reason for Downtime
Welcome back! Unfortunately, the SON Community was down for much of this afternoon and late evening due to a much-needed transfer from one hosting company to another. As many of you have pointed out in several posts, there have been technical glitches impacting the Community these last few weeks, if not months. I learned in late June that the hosting company that has maintained the services for the Community since at least 2013 had not been conducting ANY backups on the site since September 2023. As a result, with limited storage available on the server, a lack of software updates (PHP/MySQL), and the server itself reaching beyond end-of-life status, it was necessary to switch servers before the lights went out on 20 consecutive years of passionate soap opera discussion. Around 1:00 p.m. ET, a new hosting company that I chose to take over from the old one confirmed the transfer of servers. However, the data they had was from yesterday, which means posts from that point on were missing. I absolutely refused to allow the site to go back online without all the data being resynced first. That has now been done. I did manage to update the message boards to the latest released version under IPV4. However, there is a newer version under IPV5 that I was hoping to sneak in while the site was down, but there were too many complications that further delayed me being able to turn things back online. I'll attempt that update another day. In the meantime, I'm so sorry it took so long for the site to get back online. I hope everything is working as it should. I am exhausted beyond belief.- ARTICLE: Ron Carlivati OUT At ‘Beyond The Gates,’ Plus More Writing Changes At Daytime Drama Series
Less than a year since joining “Beyond the Gates” as a breakdown writer, Emmy Award winner Ron Carlivati has exited the daytime drama series, Soap Opera Network has learned. According to sources, Carlivati decided to exit the soap opera just as the show began writing work on Season 2, which premieres early next year on CBS. This marks the second major change among the show’s writing team following the exit of Robert Guza Jr. as co-head writer earlier this year. In Guza’s case, Tracey Thomson (“The Young and the Restless,” “Secrets of Sulphur Springs”) was brought in as his successor, both as co-head writer and executive producer, one of eight. In her role, Thomson works alongside series showrunner, executive producer, creator, and head writer Michele Val Jean in crafting the show’s long-term story. Another writer exiting the daytime drama series is Christopher Dunn, who joined the series in August 2024 as a breakdown writer. His previous writing work includes “Santa Barbara,” “Sunset Beach,” “Guiding Light,” “All My Children,” “Days of our Lives” and “The Young and the Restless.” It’s understood it was Dunn’s decision to exit. Elsewhere, scriptwriter Lynn Martin concluded her stint at the soap in June, according to LinkedIn. Similarly, while script writer Jazmen Darnell Brown also indicated on LinkedIn that he had concluded his run at the soap opera as well, he recently updated his page, revealing he’s back for Season 2. At press time, it was unknown if Carlivati’s decision to leave “Beyond the Gates” meant he would be joining a different soap opera as either head writer or breakdown writer, or if he simply just wanted a break from daytime. He previously served as head writer of “One Life to Live,” “General Hospital” and “Days of our Lives.” Receiving nine Daytime Emmy nominations throughout his career as a writer on soaps, Carlivati won the prestigious award in 2008 for “One Life to Live” and in 2018 for “Days of our Lives.” Under his guidance, “Days of our Lives” also won the Writers Guild Award for Daytime Drama for four consecutive years (2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024). He previously won the award in 2015 and 2017 for his work on “General Hospital.” With writing work for “Beyond the Gates” 4-6 months ahead of taping, don’t expect to see changes on-screen until at least early 2026. In the case of Guza, his name should remain in the credits through fall 2025. “General Hospital” star Tristan Rogers announced on Thursday that he has been diagnosed with cancer, although he did not disclose the type. “While he remains hopeful and is working closely with his medical team on a treatment plan, this is a challenging time for Tristan and his family,” read a statement released by a spokesperson for Rogers. “As they face both the emotional and physical burdens that come with this diagnosis, the family kindly asks for privacy and understanding. They are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support and love from their friends and family,” the statement continued. “Tristan sends his love to his fans and wants them to know how much he appreciates their loyalty and encouragement over the years. This support means more to him now than ever.” Future updates will be shared if deemed appropriate by Tristan and his family, the spokesperson noted. Rogers, 79, who had his first credited acting role in the TV series “Delta” in 1969, began making a name for himself in such shows as “The Link Men,” “The Box” and “The Sullivans” before ultimately landing the role of Robert Scorpio on “General Hospital” in 1980. The character reached icon status during that decade with his adventures involving Anna (Finola Hughes), Holly (Emma Samms), Luke (Anthony Geary), and Laura (Genie Francis). While he has appeared and departed from the daytime drama series several times, Rogers has remained a consistent fixture on the canvas, including his character most recently learning that he has a daughter with Holly. In 2024, during Rogers' most recent appearance, it was revealed that Robert and Holly were the parents of Sasha (Sofia Mattsson), making her the half-sister of Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough). Outside of "General Hospital," Rogers has appeared in other daytime dramas, including "The Bold and the Beautiful," "The Young and the Restless," "The Bay," and even "General Hospital" spinoff series "General Hospital: Night Shift." On "The Young and the Restless," Rogers portrayed the role of Colin Atkinson, opposite Genie Francis, who at the time played Genevieve Atkinson, Colin's wife. While Colin was killed off in 2011, Genevieve remained in Genoa City through 2012. ----- This article first appeared on Soap Opera Network.- ARTICLE: 'General Hospital' Star Tristan Rogers Announces Cancer Diagnosis

Ahead of the Tuesday, July 15 episode of the “Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart” podcast, CBS released preview clips of the episode featuring “Days of our Lives” star Deidre Hall as a guest. In the episode, Hall discusses her experience screentesting for the role of Marlena Evans on the Peacock exclusive daytime drama series, recalling that there were several women in the room who were also looking to land the coveted role she has played since making her debut in Salem in 1976, plus how a devoted fan helped establish the in-person fan experience. “I was screen testing, and they usually try and have people not in the same room, obviously, the actor(s) might be able to see each other or see our screentest, and I happened to see a couple of women, and I thought, ‘Oh, my word. Look who’s testing for this,’” Hall said, recalling the day of her audition. Deidre Hall, Rebecca Budig, Greg Rikaart CBS A few weeks after the screen test, Hall got a call informing her that she had landed the role, but her initial response was far from a positive one. She noted, “I knew, as actors in their craziness know, if they chose me, everybody else must have turned it down. There must be something wrong with this part, so [I thought], ‘I’m turning it down too!!!” That decision didn’t last as she would later get a call from her agent at the time, who reached out wanting to know what was going on, reminding her that she was the one who told them she wanted to do a soap. In response, Hall exclaimed to her agent that she wasn’t the show’s first choice for the role, which discouraged her from taking the part. “Yes, you were!” the agent chimed in, saying in response, to which Hall excitedly replied, “I was?” in her best “You like, you really like me” moment. At that point, she told the agent, “Well, I love that part. I would love to do that part.” In a separate clip, Hall discusses being part of the first-ever fan meet and greet, sharing a story of a fan who had written to her during the days when soap stars were getting fan mail as their primary source of feedback. “This is the days when we got fan mail, and the days we read it, too. I got a letter from a woman who said her mother was going blind and she’d been a fan of the show for a while. When they asked what she wanted to see before she lost her sight. She said, ‘I want to see Deidre Hall in person.’ Truly, you couldn’t make that up. And I thought, ‘Okay, well, come on. Here we go.’ And so, at that point in time, there were about six or seven actors on the show that had a fan club. So, I knocked on their doors and I said, ‘You got fans who need to see you.’ And ‘okay, fine.’ And we had the very first, what we call lunch break at the Sportman’s Lodge in the Valley, and there were about 125 people there.” Hall went on to share that the woman attended the event, sitting in the front row, and got to see the actress up close in person, marking what would become a multi-year tradition. “The second year it was 500 people, and the third year it was a full-blown stage production with 2,500 people at the Hollywood Palladium," said Hall.
