Soap Opera Digest & Soaps In Depth
I believe the cover price is $6.99 or $7.99 now. When it comes to their respective websites there is no real overhead except maintenance which could be a single person across multiple websites owned by a360media. As for the sites themselves, they just pay freelancers to write articles, particularly at SID. Now that I know both are owned by the same company it makes sense why I once saw Chris Eades (most frequent author on SID website) had his name on a SOD post a few months ago…one of the few times SOD wasn’t the author name. IIRC at one point Carolyn had to leave SOD because she took a job at InTouch, which I think was owned by Bauer which is now owned by a360media, SOD’s parent company. A bit of irony.

General Hospital: May 2023 Discussion Thread
With the right producer and of course the right writer, and especially little interference from the network heads, we will see a high quality soap in the sense ya'll are talking about again. It's happened before and it will always happen again. The only problem is knowing when. And how. And of course, who.
-
Soap Opera Digest & Soaps In Depth
Well, Soaps In Depth the magazine has been dead for three years. However, the website, which is much more profitable, continues.

Soap Opera Digest & Soaps In Depth
So, where the heck have I been? I had no clue that Accelerate360 (aka a360), the parent company that owns Soap Opera Digest, also now owns Soaps In Depth, more specifically the domain, from its apparent acquisition of Bauer's U.S. publishing division. https://accelerate360.com/press-release/accelerate-360-launches-new-platform/ Just something I found interesting.

Y&R May 2023 Discussion Thread
Considering the character appeared as a ghost for six months as a vision of Tricia's (when played by Rick Hearst), and Diane herself is alive after an exhausting whodunit (when played by Maura West), it wouldn't be impossible to bring Matt back. Heck, with so many twins (even if they don't look alike) created for storyline purposes by daytime writers...again, not far-fetched. To be clear, I'm not saying Matt is coming back. I just wish he would -- only as played by Eddie Cibrian.
-
Y&R May 2023 Discussion Thread
I'll take Eddie Cibrian as Matt Clark for $200, Alex (or is it Ken/Mayim now? Sounds weird...) -- just my wish. Not a spoiler.

DAYS: Peter Porte joins the show
A "get" in terms of hiring for TV and film is a person who is well known with a following of sorts (like a social media influencer -- gag) or an award-winning talent highly sought after by various TV/film productions for their services. Quality has nothing to do with it, per se. The best example is Corn Kid on B&B earlier this week. While several months too late, the original TikTok video of him garnered nearly 11 million views which means people who don't watch B&B could potentially tune in to see the Corn Kid because his appearance was promoted. Quality had nothing to do with it.

ARTICLE: ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ Holdovers David Perler and Suzanne Bass Out as Executive Producers of ‘Sherri’
With “Sherri” wrapping up production on its first season later this month, two executive holders from “The Wendy Williams Show” era are reportedly out months before the show returns for its second season. According to Page Six, which first reported the news, executive producer David Perler and co-executive producer Suzanne Bass were given the axe earlier this week from the Sherri Shepherd-hosted talk show as it looks to the future with plans to start its new season with “fresh energy.” “The Wendy Williams Show” Courtesy of Debmar-Mercury Perler is said to have only stayed on “to help get through the hump of launching a new show,” a source told the outlet. Meanwhile, Bass, who had been a “sidekick and buffer” to Williams for a decade on “The Wendy Williams Show” during the popular “Hot Topics” segment was not needed in that role as Shepherd is a comedian and actress who could handle things on her own in that respect. Jawn Murray, a long-time friend of Shepherd’s, will now serve as showrunner of the daytime talk show with producer Debmar-Mercury reportedly looking for a new executive producer to work alongside Murray for the show’s second season. Shepherd is also an executive producer on the series, which sees Joelle Dawson and Fernita Wynn as co-executive producers. In a statement released to Page Six, Debmar-Mercury acknowledged Perler and Bass were exiting, saying the two “have been integral to Debmar-Mercury’s success in daytime syndication for many years and have helped launch ‘Sherri’… Debmar Mercury wishes them all the best on future endeavors and hopes to work with them in the future.” Before joining “Sherri,” Perler was a supervising producer on “The Rosie O’Donnell Show” and a consulting producer on “The Tony Danza Show.” He later became an executive producer on “The Bonnie Hunt Show,” “Lopez Tonight” and “The Wendy Williams Show.” He also served as a consulting producer on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” Meanwhile Bass was a producer on the Martha Stewart-hosted talk show “Martha” before joining “The Wendy Williams Show” and later “Sherri.” “Sherri” was renewed for a second season after a strong fall launch earlier this year. The show ranks as the highest-rated new nationally syndicated daytime talk show, topping “The Jennifer Hudson Show” from Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Telepictures, which also debuted in the fall. ARTICLE: ‘Jane the Virgin’ Star Jaime Camil to Host and Executive Produce Game Show ‘Lotería Loca’ for CBS
Created by Jeff Apploff, Aaron Solomon and Alejandro Trevino, CBS has given a series order for “Lotería Loca,” which will be hosted and executive produced by Jaime Camil (“Jane the Virgin) and is based on the Latin Game of Chance that is popularly known today as Lotería. Full of unexpected surprises, contestants will compete to win the ultimate show cash prize. “I grew up playing Lotería with my family and friends back in México. I could say, without a shadow of a doubt, that every single Mexican family owned (and still owns) a Lotería game,” said Camil in a statement. “Even though this board game, which is similar to bingo, is still played and owned by millions of people around the globe, it’s something that resonates even more with every single Latinx person, because it helps connect with our heritage and emotional memories. There are restaurants, clothes, accessories, etc, all with Lotería designs; I mean, it’s just massive! As a Mexican American, it means the world to be producing, alongside game show-producing legend Jeff Apploff, and hosting a show that will entertain and connect so powerfully with everyone in the U.S., but especially because it will resonate tremendously with an underserved audience.” “As soon as the Unscripted team and I heard the pitch from Jaime and the producers, we were immediately sold on ‘Lotería Loca,’” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “This is a fresh new take on the game show format and a fun lively addition to our lineup. Jaime Camil’s incredible charisma and passion for this project make him the perfect host to engage viewers and bring this show to life.” In each high-octane episode, two players go head-to-head and take turns picking cards to get four in a row, which is Lotería. Each time a card appears on their unique bingo-style card, they bank big money. Landing on one of the “Loca Cards” creates a twist in the game and gives players the opportunity to bank even more cash by competing in wild, interactive challenges. The player who gets the most “Loterías” on their board the fastest moves on to the dramatic final round for a chance to win the ultimate show cash prize. To become a contestant or to learn more about the rules and regulations, visit loterialoca.tv. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Warner Horizon and Apploff Entertainment. Jeff Apploff, Jaime Camil, Mike Darnell, Dan Sacks, Bridgette Theriault and Aaron Solomon are executive producers. Alejandro Trevino serves as co-executive producer. Apploff will also serve as showrunner. ARTICLE: Peter Porte to Reprise ‘Beyond Salem: Chapter One’ Character on ‘Days of our Lives’
Beginning Monday, May 8, actor Peter Porte will reprise his “Beyond Salem: Chapter One” character, Dimitri von Leuschner, on “Days of our Lives.” His initial scenes will be with Lauren Koslow’s Kate Roberts, who has been held captive in recent episodes and is now meeting her captor for the first time. Peter Porte, Lauren Koslow (“Days of our Lives”) Photo by XJJohnson/JPI Studios Originally introduced to viewers as ISA agent Kyle Graham during the five-episode run of “Beyond Salem: Chapter One” in 2021, it was later revealed that Kyle was Dimitri von Leuschner, a double agent working with Drew (Shane’s twin brother, both played by Charles Shaughnessy) to steal the Alamainian gemstones that comprised the golden peacock. In a recent interview, Porte reveals that his character is a “complicated, broken person from a broken home. Very stoic, very serious, very controlled, very driven, very meticulous, very Machiavellian, and then just letting that be one part of him when there’s another very much softer, sweeter side.” Dimitri is cousins with Carly Manning (Crystal Chappell) and Frankie Brady (Billy Warlock). A Hallmark staple with such movies as “Rome in Love,” “Love, Once and Always,” “A Gift to Remember” and “Love at the Shore,” among others, Porte made his daytime television debut in 2011 when he played Ricky Williams on “The Young and the Restless.” Although the role only lasted about a year, Porte made a memorable impression on viewers when the character died after falling out of a window from being shot by his father, Paul (Doug Davidson). Recent credits for Porte include roles in such shows as “Uncoupled” and “NCIS.” He also appeared in at least two episodes from season one of the Amazon Prime Video original series “With Love,” co-starring Rome Flynn (ex-Zende Forrester, “The Bold and the Beautiful”). ARTICLE: ‘S.W.A.T.’ Canceled After Six Seasons at CBS
While the show continues to perform well in its Friday at 8:00 p.m. timeslot, CBS has decided not to renew “S.W.A.T.” for a seventh season. The Friday, May 19 episode will now serve as the show’s series finale. A new take on the 1975 “S.W.A.T.” TV series and the 2003 feature film, “S.W.A.T.” starred Shemar Moore (“The Young and the Restless”) as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, a former Marine and locally born and raised S.W.A.T. sergeant tasked to run a specialized tactical unit that is the last stop in law enforcement in Los Angeles. Torn between loyalty to where he was raised and allegiance to his brothers in blue, Hondo strives to bridge the divide between his two worlds. According to Deadline, the decision to cancel came down to financials. While CBS Studios was a co-producer on the series, lead producer Sony Pictures Television wasn’t willing to accept another flat license fee renewal offer as it had previously done. That would have eaten into the studio’s long-term profits off of the show and would balloon the per-episode budget on their end. CBS reportedly upped the per-episode license fee, but it would have cut down on the number of episodes ordered for next season, another sticking point for Sony. “For six seasons, the amazing talents of the ‘S.W.A.T.’ cast led by Shemar Moore, the writers, producers and crew guided by Executive Producers Shawn Ryan, Andy Dettman and Aaron Rahsaan Thomas brought us compelling, action packed episodes that also addressed important social issues and contributed to the success of our primetime line up,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment in a statement. “We sincerely thank them for their incredible work and passion and also thank our dedicated fans who tuned in every week.” In addition to Moore, the series also starred Alex Russell as Jim Street, Jay Harrington as David “Deacon” Kay, Kenny Johnson as Dominique Luca, David Lim as Victor Tan, Patrick St. Esprit as Commander Robert Hicks and Rochelle Aytes as Nichelle, Hondo’s girlfriend, the operator of a South LA community center. Entitled “Legacy,” part two of what was to be the show’s two-part season finale, now series finale, airs Friday, May 19 and finds the team working with the DEA and their iron-jawed leader, Mack Boyle (guest star Timothy Hutton), to stop a ruthless cartel boss waging war on the streets of Los Angeles as he exacts revenge on those who killed his son. Shemar Moore reprises his role as Malcolm Winters on the Monday, May 8 episode of “The Young and the Restless.” Note: The post ‘S.W.A.T.’ Canceled After Six Seasons at CBS appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. ARTICLE: Lexi Ainsworth Breaks Silence Over ‘General Hospital’ Exit, Calls Decision “Mutually Beneficial”
“General Hospital” fans were shocked on Thursday when they learned that the daytime drama series has decided to recast the role of Kristina Corinthos-Davis, most notably portrayed by Lexi Ainsworth (2009-2011; 2015-2023), with “Days of our Lives” alum Kate Mansi (ex-Abigail Deveraux DiMera). Ainsworth made her final appearance on the daytime drama series on Thursday, April 27. Mansi begins airing as Kristina during the week of May 22, 2023. Hours after the news broke, Ainsworth finally broke her silence on Instagram, revealing her exit from the show was a “mutually beneficial decision” and that even though she was looking forward to Kristina’s upcoming storyline, which was “inspired by a personal experience,” she ultimately felt from her perspective that it would be best that she writes said story from “my point of view.” In the video message, Ainsworth starts things off by saying, “Hey guys, I wanted to come on here and speak to my ‘General Hospital’ fans and let you guys know that after 10 transformative years, both personally and for my character, that I will be leaving ‘General Hospital.’” Lexi Ainsworth, Chad Duell, Maurice Benard, Dominic Zamprogna (“General Hospital” Set) Photo by Christine Bartolucci/ABC Discussing why she decided to leave the show, Ainsworth stated, “I was looking forward to this upcoming storyline because it was inspired by a personal experience of mine, but I am currently working on writing my own story from my point of view which has been thus far cathartic and hopefully inspiring to other women. So, I look forward to sharing that with you guys when it is completed. Ainsworth continued to share more information on her exit, noting it would ultimately give her opportunities she might not have partaken had she stayed. “While ‘General Hospital’ has remained a top priority, I have been interested in pursuing new career opportunities that align with my evolving interests and goals, and I’m confident that this mutually beneficial decision will lead to new endeavors where I will continue to grow and expand my talents beyond the industry. I do want to take a second to address the fans and express my deepest appreciation to you guys who have supported me over the years. She added, “Your loyalty has been a constant inspiration and I am forever grateful. The show would not be what it is without you guys.” Hayley Pullos, Kelly Monaco, Lexi Ainsworth (“General Hospital” Set) Photo by Christine Bartolucci/ABC While this might be the end of her run on the daytime drama series, Ainsworth isn’t finished with her acting career, reminding viewers she’ll be appearing in the 20th season finale of “NCIS,” airing Monday, May 22. “As I leave ‘General Hospital,’ I will continue carving out a space for myself where I am an active part of the creative process, and as much as it is hard to say goodbye I know that this has ultimately freed me for what I am meant to be pursuing,” further states about her exit. “So, with that being said [smiles], I hope that you guys continue to support me in my journey and I look forward to keeping you guys updated with all of the exciting things that are going on in my life and I will start by sharing that I have an episode of ‘NCIS’ that will be airing this month, May 22nd, so, hopefully, guy guys can tune in and stay tuned for more. In an Instagram story Ainsworth posted in early April, Ainsworth shared a snapshot of her headshot on a casting board, indicating she’d be playing the role of Holly Lygnos in the episode. Although the episode’s title at the time was “Second Opinion,” CBS recently announced the season finale episode will be titled “Black Sky,” which finds NCIS Special Agent Nicholas “Nick” Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) finding himself in prison as the team tries to stop an impending terror attack on U.S. soil. “NCIS” airs Mondays at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. In 2017, Ainsworth won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Kristina Corinthos-Davis on “General Hospital.” She received her first nomination in 2011, the same year she took home the Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a Daytime TV Series – Younger Actress, also for her portrayal of Kristina. Outside of “General Hospital,” Ainsworth has appeared in episodes of “Gilmore Girls,” “iCarly,” “Cougar Town,” “Criminal Minds,” “Teen Wolf,” “Rizzoli & Isles” and “Shameless,” among other TV appearances. She co-starred in the 2015 film “A Girl Like Her” alongside “The Young and the Restless” alum Hunter King (ex-Summer Newman). Check out Ainsowrth’s Instagram video below. ARTICLE: ‘General Hospital’ Recasts Kristina Corinthos-Davis Character with ‘Days of our Lives’ Alum Kate Mansi
“Days of our Lives” alum Kate Mansi will take over the role of Kristina Corinthos-Davis on “General Hospital,” replacing Lexi Ainsworth who had portrayed the role off and on since 2009. Photo by Craig Sjodin/ABC According to Soap Opera Digest, which first reported the news, Mansi has already begun taping and will make her Port Charles debut during the week of May 22. Meanwhile, Ainsworth made her final appearance as Kristina in the Thursday, April 27 episode, which saw the character supporting her stepbrother, Michael (Chad Duell), at his wedding and her sister, Molly (Hayley Pullos), who was dealing with pregnancy issues. At press time, there was no reason given for the recast, but, as we previously reported, Ainsworth is set to appear in the season finale of “NCIS.” The last time the character was recast was in 2012 when Lindsey Morgan took over the role following Ainsworth’s departure. Morgan departed the series one year later while Ainsworth returned to the show in 2015. In 2016, it was revealed that Kristina had been having an affair with her college professor (played by Ashley Jones). Best known for her role as Abby Deveraux DiMera on “Days of our Lives,” Mansi won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2017 for her portrayal. She was nominated again in 2019 in the Outstanding Guest Performer in a Drama Series category. Mansi can currently be seen as Hunter Clarkman in the limited series “Casa Grande,” now streaming exclusively on Amazon Freevee. Click here for more information.
