  1. Less than a month since NBCUniversal announced that Xfinity subscribers would have to start paying for Peacock after receiving the Premium package for free since the streaming service’s launch in 2020, comes word that the platform’s monthly and annual price plans are going up, effective immediately for new subscribers and starting on or after August 17 for existing users. The cost for a Peacock Premium subscription will now cost $5.99/mo vs. $4.99/mo previously. Similarly, an annual subscription will now cost $59.99/year vs. $49.99/year previously. Additionally, the Premium Plus subscription goes up to $11.99 a month, a bump of $2.00 from the previous $9.99/mo. A yearly plan also jumps up, costing $20.00 more annually ($119.99/year vs. $99.99/year). Premium Plus Add-On pricing goes up $1.00 (from $5.00 to $6.00). The Premium subscription, which remains the most popular offering, will continue to provide customers access to stream 80,000+ hours of the best in TV, movies, and sports, along with New & Hit Shows, Films & Originals, LIVE Sports & Events, Current NBC & Bravo Shows and 50+ Always-On Channels. Meanwhile, the Premium Plus package will provide everything in Premium but also includes No Ads (Limited Exclusions*), Download & Watch Select Titles Offline and access to Your Local NBC Channel LIVE, 24/7. In an email sent to current subscribers, Peacock notes, “As a current subscriber, you’ll receive one additional month at the current price. The new pricing will be effective on your next billing date on or after August 17, 2023.” For those who are currently receiving Peacock on an offer, such as the $1.99/mo or $19.99/annual subscription options provided in September 2022 when “Days of our Lives” became a Peacock exclusive series or when NBCUniversal programming from brands such as NBC, Bravo, USA Network, et al. became available as next day offerings after the Hulu deal expired, don’t fret: “Your promotional pricing will continue through the end of the promotional period.” However, “if you are on an offer and upgraded to Premium Plus for $5/mo., your price for the Premium Plus Add-On will increase to $6/mo., effective on your next billing date on or after August 17. As of the first quarter of 2023, Peacock had approximately 22 million subscribers, placing it well behind rivals Disney+, Paramount+, Max (formerly HBO Max) and Hulu. Updated subscriber numbers will be reported later this year, the first which will show how many subscribers the service may have lost since dropping Xfinity subscribers who received access at no extra cost. Check out the new price plan for Peacock below. Courtesy of Peacock Peacock subscribers looking to manage or cancel their subscription, they can do so by logging into Peacock and visiting their Account page. For more information on how to cancel, visit the Peacock Cancellation page. *Due to streaming rights, a small amount of programming will still contain ads (Peacock channels, events and a few shows and movies). 2. “One Life to Live” alum Tika Sumpter (ex-Layla Williamson) has signed with Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment, a Los Angeles-based management company, reports Deadline. She reunites with her former agent DC Wade, who is a managing partner at the firm. His clients also include Yvonne Orji (“Insecure”), WWE Superstar Daria Berenato (aka: Sonya Deville), Amberia Allen (“The Wonder Years”) and Sterling Brim (“Ridiculousness”), among others. Since exiting the role of Layla Williamson on “One Life to Live,” Sumpter has made a name for herself in Hollywood, starring in such shows as “The Game” and “The Haves and the Have Nots.” She also has had a thriving movie career, which includes such films as “Ride Along,” “A Madea Christmas,” “Ride Along 2,” “Nobody’s Fool,” “Sonic the Hedgehog” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 2.” Sumpter is set to reprise her role as Maddie Wachowski from the “Sonic” movies in the Paramount+ original spinoff series, “Knuckles,” which will be released later this year on the streaming series. She’s also attached to reprise her role as Angela Payton in “Ride Along 3,” the third installment in the movie franchise. More recently, she made her directorial debut with “Night Off,” a short film written by Kiana Butler Jabangwe that premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival for Hartbeat’s Women Write Now fellowship. Directed by Charles Stone III (“Drumline”), Sumpter can next be seen in “The Underdoggs,” a sports comedy about a former NFL superstar who, after a run-in with the law, agrees to coach a youth football team in lieu of prison in the hopes of relaunching his fledgling career. The cast also includes Snoop Dogg, Mike Epps and George Lopez, among others. In addition to reaming with DC Wade, Sumpter will continue being repped by talent agency UTA and law firm Hansen Jacobson Teller. 3. With CBS now forced to make adjustments in primetime due to the ongoing Writers Strike and the recent addition of an Actors Strike (TV/theatrical contract only), the network announced on Monday that it would be making significant changes to its fall schedule. Original episodes of “Let’s Make a Deal Primetime” and “The Price is Right at Night” join the network’s primetime schedule, with both game shows set to share the Friday at 8:00 p.m. slot on a rotating basis. They replace the previously slotted “S.W.A.T.,” which was set to air its seventh and final season in the time period. Wayne Brady and Drew Carey will continue hosting their respective shows. At 9:00 p.m., the network will air “Raid the Cage,” a new game show that sees two teams of two as they face off to win grab-and-go prizes from the Cage before their time runs out and the doors close. 22 answering trivia questions adds seconds to the clock, giving teammates more time to grab prizes ranging from cold hard cash to electronics and even a new car! After three lively rounds, the team that banks the highest total dollar value in prizes wins the game, keeps what they grabbed and plays the final round for an even bigger cash prize. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television’s Game Show division. Closing out Friday nights will be “Blue Bloods Classics” at 10:00 p.m., featuring fan-favorite episodes from the show’s 13 seasons. Courtesy of CBS TV’s number one series among Total Viewers, “Yellowstone,” will make its broadcast television premiere on CBS after airing for five seasons on Paramount Network. Following “60 Minutes,” CBS will air two episodes of “Yellowstone” on Sundays (8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.) when the afternoon football game consists of a single header or one episode on Sundays (9:00 p.m. only) when there is a doubleheader game. Season 1 episodes kick off the show’s launch on the network. “Big Brother” will take on the 10:00 p.m. Sunday sloth following “Yellowstone” in addition to its Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. and Thursday at 8:00 p.m. time periods. The original Sunday schedule had “60 Minutes” followed by “Matlock,” “The Equalizer” and “CSI: Vegas.” Based on the Latin game of chance popularly known now as Lotería, CBS will launch “Lotería Loca,” hosted by Jaime Camil (“Jane the Virgin”), Mondays at 8:00 p.m. followed by a rerun of “NCIS” and a yet to be announced Paramount+ original series which will take over the 10:00 p.m. slot previously occupied by “NCIS: Hawai’i.” FBI True Key Art – credit: Paramount+/CBS Following the Tuesday edition of “Big Brother,” CBS will begin airing episodes of the Paramount+ original series, “FBI True,” a documentary-style series featuring conversations between agents when they meet to talk about their toughest cases. They talk frankly about the triumphs, tragedies and real truths of their jobs. In this relaxed setting, they share hair-raising stories of dangerous missions carried out by the FBI in the United States and worldwide. The agents give viewers an inside look at the investigations behind some of the biggest cases handled by the FBI. With everything on the line, what choices did they make? How did they keep their cool with a kidnapped child’s life in danger, or with a bomb ticking in an unknown location or a terrorist on the loose? “FBI True” is produced by Efran Films Canada for See It Now Studios. A repeat of “FBI” will air Tuesdays at 10:00 p.m., closing out the night. On Wednesday nights, CBS will air 90-minute editions of “Survivor” and “The Amazing Race,” with the former remaining in its 8:00 p.m. slot followed by the latter at 9:30 p.m. Josh Duhamel, from the CBS Original Series BUDDY GAMES, scheduled to air on the CBS Television Network. Seal Team – Season 5 Key Art Detail – credit: Paramount+/CBS Although the network has not formally announced a premiere date for “Buddy Games,” an all-new reality competition series inspired by executive producer and host Josh Duhamel, CBS noted in its new fall schedule chart that the show will air Thursdays at 9:00 p.m., and upon completing its season order will be replaced by two half-hour episodes of “UK: Ghosts,” the original iteration that inspired the hit comedy “Ghosts.” Speaking of “Ghosts,” CBS will air reruns of the comedy at 8:30 p.m. following reruns of “Young Sheldon” at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday nights. The night concludes with drama “Seal Team” returning to CBS after the series was moved to Paramount+. On Saturday nights, CBS will continue airing encores and sports programming from 8:00-10:00 p.m., followed by “48 Hours” at 10:00 p.m. What follows is a breakdown of CBS’ updated fall schedule, which supersedes the fall schedule announced in May. 4. When I made my first comment about this, that's what I was hearing. I didn't want to be specific because things can take time, and we could be waiting until 2025 or later before it becomes available. But ultimately, I was told a deal was finally made to make the show available. What I don't know is where or when.
  5. I renamed the thread to 2023 Writers + Actors Strike Thread since it makes no sense to have two separate threads.
  6. Email Resolution: While there have been some noteworthy issues in which a limited number of users were not receiving emails through our original provider, including registration confirmations, we have made exhaustive efforts to correct this matter. As such, we have moved to a more premium provider that will be able to handle a large number of email transactions, including registrations and notifications/alerts. Since implementation, we have gone and resent verification emails to those who've registered since at least 2020 but did not click on the link to confirm their email address was valid. By resending the notifications, you should receive a validation email at the last known email address provided at registration (email changes supersede the original registration email address used). As always, if you are not receiving emails from the SON Community, make sure to check your spam folder. Additionally, to continue receiving emails, make sure to mark emails sent from the SON Community ([email protected]) as safe and "Not Spam." Note: I found a limited number of accounts where an Admin was required to validate an account, but with each instance, the email validatation step was ignored. Under normal circumstances, our Spam defense detectors result in a "1, " allowing registration to proceed on the user level. The registrations I'm referring to here resulted in a "3." I will not validate an account that reaches that level, nor will I ever validate an account without action made by the user themselves.
  7. Whelp. All this means is once an "All My Children" reboot happens (we pray everyday), Erica will just have to get married again.
  8. Didn't know this was an issue. It's fixed now. Thanks @dragonflies @Liberty City.
  9. Correct. She can talk about anything relating to her current job on "Days of our Lives" or any show that isn't owned/produced by a struck company. She can also talk about her time on "Another World" but not "227." If Jackee were to appear in an upcoming episode of a TV show or movie owned/produced by a struck company, she can't do press whatsoever. No interviews, Podcasts, Vlogs, radio, etc. She could only do an interview to discuss her personal life or Days of our Lives/Another World or her support of the SAG-AFTRA strike to get the word out. If for example, Meryl Streep were to do an interview, she would only be able to talk about her personal life (outside of acting) and the SAG-AFTRA strike and her support of it to get the word out.
  10. Best known for his starring roles in such daytime dramas as “All My Children,” “The Young and the Restless,” “Another Life,” “Tribes,” “Santa Barbara” and “Days of our Lives,” veteran actor Nicholas “Nick” Benedict has died. He passed away on his 77th birthday (Friday, July 14), it was confirmed to Soap Opera Network by Barbara Ferrante, owner of Jake’s Steakhouse in Tehachapi, CA, where Benedict’s wife of 22 years, Ginger, works as a bartender. According to a GoFundMe that was set up before his death, Benedict had emergency spinal cord surgery on July 2. Just two days later, on July 4, he was admitted to hospice and was paralyzed from the neck down. Ten days later, he died surrounded by his loved ones, including his wife, in Arizona, where the couple resided. From left: Larry Keith, Nick Benedict, Jean LeClerc, Mike Minor, John Canary, Richard Shoberg, Susan Lucci (“All My Children”) Courtesy of ABC via Everett Collection Benedict first made a name for himself in 1964, appearing in the film “Mike and the Mermaid,” which also starred Rachel Ames (“General Hospital”). He would later appear in a number of classic primetime dramas before ultimately landing the role of Phillip “Phil” Brent on “All My Children” in 1973. While Benedict might have been the second actor to portray the character, he was the most memorable and longest-running actor to play the part. Phillip was the second husband of the iconic Erica Kane (Susan Lucci). After exiting “All My Children” in 1978, Benedict received a Daytime Emmy nomination in 1979 for Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Drama Series for his portrayal of Phillip on the ABC soap. Later, he went on to appear on “The Young and the Restless” as Michael Scott and “Another Life” as Ron Washington. He also appeared in episodes of “The Dukes of Hazzard,” “Tales from the Darkside” and “Knots Landing” throughout the 1980s before again reprising his role as Phillip on “All My Children” in 1988, albeit briefly. In 1990, Benedict joined the shortlived half-hour soap opera “Tribes,” which ran on FOX stations in the hopes it would garner a more youthful audience in a syndication-like marketplace. Following the cancellation of “Tribes,” the actor joined the cast of “Santa Barbara” as Boots. He remained with the show until 1992. In 1993, Benedict joined “Days of our Lives” as Curtis Reed, the abusive ex-husband of Kate Roberts (first played by Deborah Adair; played by Lauren Koslow since 1996). Appearing as a ghost off and on since the character was revealed to have been shot and killed by Stefano DiMera (played by the late Joseph Mascolo), Benedict made his final appearance on the daytime drama series in 2001. Prior to making it as an actor in Hollywood, Benedict spent two years in the United States Navy before enrolling to study at the Professional Theatre Workshop Academy. While training, he worked on oil paintings and carpentry and appeared as an extra at Universal Studios. “I was always the cop walking around in the background,” Benedict said in a January 1981 interview with the Hi-Desert Star, a publication based in Yucca Valley, California. Explaining how his character on “The Young and the Restless” differed from his role on “All My Children,” Benedict said, “[Michael] is more of a man than Phil Brent was. More mature and knows where he’s going.” In speaking about his time on daytime soaps in the same interview, Benedict noted, “If I never did anything but daytime television, I would be happy. I would not consider myself less of a success.” Benedict is survived by his wife, Ginger. SECOND CORRECTION: Benedict was 77 when he died, according to Ferrante, who is close with the family. CORRECTION: Benedict passed away on his 76th birthday. He was born on July 14, 1947. An earlier version of this article incorrectly indicated Benedict was 77. Note: The post R.I.P. 11. The problem with AI (Artificial Intelligence) is that it can be anything. It can drive your car for you. It can order groceries or place things in your virtual cart. It can pick up your mail or correct your grammar. It can write scripts, articles, news stories, music. It can edit an image on the fly or create a new one altogether. It can do just about anything. People don't realize that it's been here for years but is only now getting ready to expand beyond basic principles. Anything that requires minimal to no human interaction to create a result can be classified as AI. Some examples: Siri Alexa Grammarly Tesla + other manufacturers with self-driving capabilities Search engines (like Google and Bing) With all that said, I would never trust the government (congress and the senate) to make rules and regulations. Most of them only care about their own best interests and you truly can't regulate something that isn't just one thing but many things. I expect a deal with SAG-AFTRA to come before WGA.
  12. Yes. They can and will. The SAG-AFTRA (TV/Theatrical) strike does not impact Net Code shows due to separate contracts.
  13. No. Why would they? Oh, because Disney calls them "Cast Members"? Haha. The costume-wearing character/actor/performers are not covered by SAG-AFTRA.
  14. With the “NBA Finals” no longer a factor, regular primetime viewing kicked in with “America’s Got Talent” (5.985 million) leading the overall charts, followed by “WWE Smackdown” (2.355 million) in the demos and “60 Minutes” (5.730 million”) in Total Viewers during the week of June 19-25, 2023. Rounding out the Top 5 among Total Viewers were repeats of the “NCIS” trio, starting with “NCIS: Hawai’i” (4.124 million) in third, followed by “NCIS: LA” (3.844 million) in fourth and O.G. “NCIS” (3.838 million) in fifth place. Among Adults 18-49, “American Ninja Warrior” (3.098 million) ranked third for the week with a 0.4 rating, tying it with several programs, including NBC’s airing of the “NASCAR Cup Series Race” (3.202 million), the season premiere of “The Wall” (2.653 million), a repeat of “60 Minutes” (retitled “60 Minutes Presents”), a repeat airing of “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (3.106 million), two repeats of “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” (2.969 million – Monday; 2.747 million – Tuesday), ABC’s airing of the “NBA Draft” (2.216 million) and FOX’s airing of an all-new “Masterchef” (2.274 million). In Adults 25-54, NBC’s launch of “LA Fire and Rescue” ranked seventh with a 0.5 rating, tying it with “The Wall,” “Weakest Link” (2.451 million) and repeats of “The Price is Right at Night” (2.798 million) and “Young Sheldon” (3.309 million). What follows is a look at how primetime broadcast programs performed during the week of June 19-25, 2023 in Adults 18-49 (Rating/Viewers), Adults 25-54 (Rating/Viewers) and Total Viewers. 15. With the Fourth of July (Independence Day) holiday falling on a Tuesday this year, most daytime broadcast shows were coded as specials on both Monday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 4. Some telecasts (original and repeats) are excluded from the weekly averages or were not rated by Nielsen altogether unless otherwise noted (see Notable Preemptions/Schedule Changes). In a twist, “The Young and the Restless” (3.140 million) was officially the most watched daytime broadcast series due to “The Price is Right” airing amended repeats. The soap opera’s accomplishment, however, comes with an asterisk due to overall television viewing reaching a virtual low. Among the demographics, the longest-running game show in television history remained atop the charts in both Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating. Similarly, “Let’s Make a Deal” (2.073 million / 2.427 million) aired repeats for the week, but its demos were amended out. Among Total Viewers, only “NBC News Daily” (1.061 million) saw improvement, adding +16,000 viewers week-to-week. What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of July 3-7, 2023 in Women 18-49 Rating, Women 25-54 Rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance last year (2022) and two years ago (2021), respectively. A closer look at the daytime soaps, including their daily performance breakdown in the demos, will be posted Thursday. Note*: Officially, rankings are sorted by the rounded figures released by Nielsen. We are separately providing the unrounded demos for informational purposes only. “NBC News Daily” year ago and two years ago figures are compared to the performance of “Days of our Lives.” Ratings for Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 were unavailable at press time. “Let’s Make a Deal,” “The Price is Right,” “The View” and “The Talk”** aired repeats all week and are excluded from the rankings. Any data points for either show listed below are for informational purposes only and will not factor into either show’s weekly or season averages. Total Viewers and Households were not available for “TODAY 3rd Hour” or “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” at press time. During the week of June 26-30, 2023, several daytime broadcast shows saw some of their highest ratings in several weeks, particularly “The Young and the Restless” (3.486 million) and the second half-hour of “The Price is Right” (4.483 million), which aired its final episode ever taped at the Bob Barker Studio 33 on Monday, June 26 (Season 51 finale). In the case of “The Young and the Restless,” the Josh Griffith-led series was up an astonishing +308,000 viewers over one week earlier and up another +186,000 viewers over its performance during the same week last year. In fact, daytime television’s most-watched daily serial was up from its performance two years ago (+113,000 viewers). Among the all-important sales demos, the soap was up week-to-week in both Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating, and on par with its year ago performance in both demographics. Photo by Sean Smith/CBS “The Bold and the Beautiful” (3.006 million) saw its best performance among Total Viewers in at least ten weeks (since the return of the category in our weekly reporting). 17. Originating the iconic role of Tina Lord Roberts on “One Life to Live” in 1978, veteran daytime television actress Andrea Evans died of cancer on Sunday, July 9, casting director Don Carroll announced. She was 66 years old. Born June 18, 1957 in Aurora, Illinois, the two-time Daytime Emmy nominee followed up her initial stint as Tina on the ABC drama series with a short-run on “The Young and the Restless” playing Patty Williams from 1983-1984. Returning to “One Life to Live” in 1985, Evans went on to receive a Daytime Emmy nomination in the category of Outstanding Ingenue in a Drama Series in 1988. She again departed the series in 1990, which was the same year she appeared in an episode of the short-lived primetime drama “Capital News.” She again reprised the role of Tina in 2008 and 2011, saying at the time, “It’s time to give the audience what they want. And it’s time for me to get closure on why I left in the first place.” Her statement was in reference to a stalker who first accosted the actress in the lobby of the ABC soap opera in the fall of 1987, which Evans detailed in a 2008 PEOPLE profile. The experience saw her move across the country from New York City to Los Angeles. In the late 90s to early 2000s, she portrayed such memorable characters as Rebecca Hotchkiss on NBC’s “Passions” and Tawny Moore on both “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless.” As Tawny, she was the wacky mother of Amber Moore (Adrienne Frantz), who was entangled with the Forrester family through her affair with Rick Forrester. On “Passions,” Rebecca was always scheming to get her daughter, Gwen, entrenched into the Crane family through her relationship with Ethan Crane. “Our deepest condolences on the passing of Andrea Evans who graced ‘Y&R’ with her talents as ‘Patty Williams’ from 1983-1984,” read a tweet by the official Twitter handle for “The Young and the Restless” posted shortly after the news of her Evans’ passing began to spread online. In 2014, Evans joined the cast of “DeVanity,” a digital drama series where she received her second Daytime Emmy nomination, this time for Outstanding Performer in a New Approaches Drama Series.
