  2. Since its debut in mid-April, “Live with Kelly and Mark” has ranked a solid number one among all entertainment talk shows – network or syndicated – across all key measures, topping all daytime and late-night entertainment talk shows through its first five weeks, according to figures released by Nielsen. During the week of May 15-19, 2023, the most recent week in which ratings are available for syndicated programming, “Live with Kelly and Mark” (2.212 million) improved over both the prior week (vs. 2.197 million for the week of May 8, 2023) and the same week last year (vs. 2.106 million for the week of May 16-20, 2022) in Total Viewers. “Live” was even week-to-week and year-to-year in both Households (1.5 rating) and Women 25-54 (0.5 rating). Through its first five weeks, “Live with Kelly and Mark” has improved its average over the comparable weeks last season by +7% in Households (1.6 rating vs. 1.5 rating) and by +5% in Total Viewers (2.293 million vs. 2.194 million), while holding even year-to-year among Women 25-54 (0.6 rating). 3. During the week of May 22-26, 2023, “The Price is Right” (3.653 million / 4.169 million) continued to rank first among Total Viewers and Households (2.3 / 2.6) despite being slightly down week-to-week. Meanwhile, “The Young and the Restless” (3.347 million) saw the biggest week-to-week increase among viewers, adding +127,000. “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.817 million) was also up week-to-week, adding +33,000 viewers. The two CBS soaps continue to outpace their performance from two years earlier, up +134,000 and +77,000, respectively. “The View” (2.201 million) gained +107,000 viewers over its performance during the week of May 15-19, 2023. Meanwhile, “General Hospital” (2.067 million) again lost viewers over the week ago, shedding another -29,000 viewers. This marks the fifth consecutive week of declines for the show since Total Viewers were reinstated in our weekly reports (since the week of April 24, 2023). Despite airing reruns all week, “The Talk” (1.265 million) performed on par with its 2021 numbers (1.265 million vs. 1.246 million). “NBC News Daily” (970,000) continues to perform poorly. While the show may be cheap to produce for NBC, affiliates can’t be happy with the show’s performance overall. What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of May 22-26, 2023 in Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance last year (2022) and two years ago (2021), respectively. A closer look at the daytime soaps, including a daily performance breakdown in the demos, will be posted shortly. Note*: Officially, rankings are sorted by the rounded figures released by Nielsen. We are separately providing the unrounded demos for informational purposes only. “NBC News Daily” year ago and two years ago figures are compared to the performance of “Days of our Lives.” Ratings for Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 were unavailable at press time. 5. With the show currently airing reruns due to the Writers Strike, CBS’ “The Talk” will rebroadcast the January 24, 2023 episode on Tuesday, May 30. The episode features Tracey E. Bregman from “The Young and the Restless” as she celebrates her 40th anniversary on the daytime drama series, joining in 1983 as ingenue Lauren Fenmore. On the daytime talk show, Bregman talked about what fans could expect from the special standalone episode of “The Young and the Restless” dedicated to her character, which aired on January 25, 2023, and saw Lauren being recognized for her contributions to the fashion industry with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Ironically, the episode also saw Bregman herself receiving a replacement Daytime Emmy Award after her original one was lost when her home burned down during the Woolsey fire in 2018. The replacement award was presented to her by her on-screen husband Christian Le Blanc (Michael Baldwin), who said to his long-time friend and colleague, “I would like to present this, an Emmy for Outstanding Ingenue, but this time it’s from the people who love and respect you and cherish you, your CBS, your ‘[The] Young and the Restless’ family, and I’m so honored to be able to give it to you.” Tracey E. Bregman, Christian Le Blanc (“The Talk”) Courtesy of CBS (Screengrab) Bregman responded, saying, “I can’t thank you enough for, I’m so overwhelmed.” She added, “It has been one of the most extraordinary and heartfelt experiences of my career. I tried not to go into the ugly cry in the air. Thanks to my ‘Young and Restless’ family, NATAS, ‘The Talk’ and everyone who made this moment happen. My heart is so full.” “We were devastated to learn of the destruction of Tracey’s home, and with it, her well-earned Emmy Award,” said Adam Sharp, President and CEO of NATAS. “As our judges acknowledged, the Emmy statuette is a symbol of her hard work and outstanding dedication to her craft. We are happy it’s back home where it belongs.” Bregman originally won her Daytime Emmy Award in 1985 in the category of Outstanding Ingenue, which was later rebranded as Outstanding Younger Actress. The category is more commonly known as Outstanding Younger Performer with the eligibility age reduced to 18 and younger, effective calendar year 2022. 7. Ironically, I'm the opposite. It bothers me when I see "Our" in articles about the show or just about anywhere when it comes to things related to the show since it is officially called "Days of our Lives." Babyswitch, here we go again? He definitely should have been one of the Kens. He is a very beautiful man. I must admit.
  8. This show is so weird. I'm hearing he's on contract with what's airing now, but technically, he's now recurring for what he's currently filming. That tape-to-air gap is so frustrating.
  9. This is the casting I was referring to on May 9: For the Full Story: https://www.soapoperanetwork.com/2023/05/kim-coles-joins-days-of-our-lives-nurse-whitley I presume the name "Whitley" comes from "A Different World," even though there isn't an actor correlation there. That's pretty much the only time I've ever seen the name.
  10. Salem is about to get some much-needed medical assistance when actress Kim Coles joins the cast of “Days of our Lives” as Nurse Whitley. Set to make her debut on the Wednesday, May 31 episode of the daytime drama series, Coles will be spending much of her time at Salem University Hospital taking care of several patients, including Abe Carver (Jame Reynolds), Colin Bedford (Jasper Newman) and Paulina Price-Carver (Jackee Harry), just to name a few. In fact, when he first sees her, Abe just happens to mistake Nurse Whitley for his wife and that’s never a good thing! “Omgeeeee! I’m so excited! I can FINALLY tell that I joined the amazing cast of #DaysofOurLives on Peacock at Nurse Whitley!” said Coles on Instagram recently. “Get Ready cuz she.is.NOT.SYNCLAIRE, honey! My episodes start week of 5/29 and you are in for a wild ride!” Her post has since generated over 12,000 likes and nearly 600 comments from fans, friends and colleagues, including Sherri Shepherd, Mark Curry, Holly Robinson Peete, Raven Bowens (Chanel, “Days of our Lives”) and former “Living Single” co-star Erika Alexander, among others. Best known for her portrayal as Synclaire James-Jones on FOX’s “Living Single” during the show’s five-season run, Coles first made a name for herself in 1990 when she played various characters in the cult classic comedy series, “In Living Color,” which starred several industry heavyweights such as Jim Carey, David Alan Grier, Tommy Davidson, Kim Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, Keenan Ivory Wayans, Damon Wayans, Jamie Foxx and even Fly Girls Carrie Ann Inaba and Jennifer Lopez, among others. Following the end of “Living Single,” Coles had roles on such shows as “Frasier,” “The Geena Davis Show,” “The Parkers,” “My Wife and Kids,” “The Soul Man,” “Baby Daddy” and more recently “Home Economics.” She also appeared in a sketch for the popular HBO series “A Black Lady Sketch Show,” which recently featured Jackee Harry in an episode from the current fourth season. 11. Rob Bruce Baron has helped set the stage for ABC’s “The View” since the show launched in August 1997, and today, May 25, marked his final day of work before officially retiring after 40 years in television. In celebration of Baron’s contributions, moderator Whoopi Goldberg took time to share information about the show’s lead stage manager as he prepares to enjoy the simple life. Courtesy of ABC (via Screengrab) “He started his career as a 15-year-old production assistant on the 1968 Chicago Democratic Convention. He’s stage managed sports, sitcoms, game shows and talk shows. He was a lounge singer in Chicago and he was a voiceover actor,” shared Goldberg, while noting some biographical information about Baron during his entertainment career. When not being a stage manager, Baron owns and operates an alpaca farm with 70 alpacas. Reminiscing for a moment about Baron, Goldberg revealed that when the show moved from its old digs at 320 West 66th Street in New York before relocating to ABC’s New York Headquarters, she had to beg him to stay with the show. “I begged him to come over and be here because I was afraid to be here by myself,” said Goldberg, recalling when she was the only returning personality at the opening of the show’s new season in September 2014. Courtesy of ABC (via Screengrab) “I didn’t know who was going to be here and what was going to happen and he said, ‘Okay!’ So he’s retiring today, cause there is other stuff for him to do and so we just wanted to say “We love you!” Watch the clip below. 12. Hearing some good news is coming for fans of this show.
  13. During the week of May 15-19, 2023, only the first half-hour of “The Price is Right” (3.703 million) and the second half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal”(2.539 million) saw an increase among Total Viewers compared to one week earlier. The second half-hour of “The Price is Right” (4.179 million) was down by just -1,000 viewers week-to-week, the smallest drop of any daytime broadcast series. “The Young and the Restless (3.220 million), “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.784 million) and “The View” (2.094 million) each saw a significant week-to-week drop among Total Viewers. The two CBS can point to the network’s continued coverage of UEFA Champions League games on Wednesday, May 17 as a factor in their falls as each soap was preempted, amended, or broken out in key markets on that day. Ironically, UEFA Champions League ratings continue to fall behind typical CBS daytime programming averages. The Wednesday, May 17 game was watched by just 1.193 million viewers according to figures released via ShowBuzzDaily. Among Households, the game did a 0.7 rating. Despite falling in Households (1.4 rating vs. 1.5 rating) week-to-week, “General Hospital” (2.096 million) managed to rank as ABC’s top show among Total Viewers for the week, topping “The View” by +2,000 viewers (2.096 million vs. 2.094 million). Meanwhile, “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (1.390 million) is on par with its performance two years earlier, but was down significantly compared to its year ago performance. What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of May 15-19, 2023 in Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance last year (2022) and two years ago (2021), respectively. 17. ESPN commentator and sports journalist Stephen A. Smith appeared on the Tuesday, May 23 episode of “Tamron Hall” for a sitdown chat with host Tamron Hall on the set of “General Hospital” where they discussed his recurring role as tech expert Brick on the daytime drama series, his family, career and future plans. The pair also had fun chatting about their upcoming appearance in a future episode of “Celebrity Family Feud” where they go head-to-head as opponents. When asked about his role on “General Hospital,” Smith told Hall, “I’ve been blessed and fortunate because I do scenes primarily with the star of the show. And we’ve developed an incredible friendship, Maurice Benard [Sonny Corinthos] and myself.” He added, “I can’t tell you the amount of times that he’s pulled me to the side and he sat down with me and he’s embraced it and he’s like, ‘Here’s where I want you to go.’ I remember there was a scene where he had lost a relative and literally he said to me, ‘I don’t want to offend you here,’ and he brought up losing my mother in 2017, and he said, ‘I need you to go back to that moment. I need you to embrace how you were feeling at that moment in time.’ He said, ‘I’m only coming to you because I know you can. I need you to do it.’ And that was exactly what I did.” Stephen A. Smith, Maurice Benard (“General Hospital”) Photo by Frank Micelotta/ABC With Smith making a name for himself on ESPN, he shares that one of the biggest secrets to his success is his ability to work, telling Hall, “No one’s gonna outwork me. I remember I was just with my boss the other day and you know, I was reminded of a time where there was a former executive VP at ESPN, who’s now the athletic director at Syracuse, his name is John Wildhack, and he introduced me to the football team because he wanted me to speak to the football team. And he reminded them that he had been in our business for nearly 40 years and I was the only employee he ever had to make take vacation.” Surprised by that comment, Hall asked, “Are you still that guy now?” to which Smith said, “I wouldn’t go that far. You don’t have to make me take vacation. I’m gonna take vacation.” When asked what changed, Smith replied, “Longevity. Thinking about smelling the roses, I’m not one to sit around and smell it, but I want to do things and associate myself with things that allows me to know that I’m reaping the fruits of my labor…Regardless of the vacations that I take or the time that I take off, I’m still going to outwork 99% of the people out there. I don’t stop. I’m a machine and I know it and I’m proud of it. And I don’t believe that talent is what got me here. It’s a commitment to working hard and exhausting myself trying to be and striving to be the best that I can be. And more importantly than that, it really comes down to, you know, being brilliant because you know you’re not.” As for what’s next for him in his career, Smith notes, “First order of business is perfecting the things that I’ve already started. My production company I want to grow. Everybody talks about stuff like, you know, Spike Lee and people like that, yeah Spike Lee, Tyler Perry, Jerry Bruckheimer. My aspiration is to get to that point. I’m going to pursue acting, I finally made the decision to do that. That’s something that I want to do because I like portraying other characters and finding myself marrying that character, the challenge of it because I think it makes me better on television. And I’m not satisfied with what I’ve accomplished on television. In the world of sports? Yes. But I plan on taking it a step further.” Explaining how far he’s willing to go, Smith says, “I want to end my career being recognized as arguably the greatest television talent in history. That’s what I want to do. That’s what I want to accomplish. You can’t do it sitting idly by or sitting around thinking that’s just laudables that are going to be thrown in a direction. You got to put in the work, and I intend to do just that.” For more on what Smith had today on “Tamron Hall,” watch the clips below. “General Hospital” and the Secret to Success Pursuing Acting & Hopes for the Future Note: The post ESPN’s Stephen A. 21. That's likely to happen, but I imagine some of the shows on the list had virtually no viewers. For instance, "Marvel’s Voices Rising: The Music of Wakanda Forever (Disney+)" which would only be interesting to music people or those who wanted to learn more about the music from the movie. It's like airing a one-off special in this instance. Why keep it on the platform hogging space when it's only relevance was when the movie hit the streamer.
