Barbara questions Susan why she would be involved in Hal's death. Susan beats around the bush, saying that she feels she should have cared for him more. Barbara comforts Susan. Everyone gathers at Luther's Corners Church to bid farewell to Hal. Will breaks down in Gwen's arms as Gwen listens to Will telling childhood memories of Hal. Barbara and Kim are pleased to see Paul (Roger Howarth), Nikki (Jordana Brewster), and all are shocked when Tess (Parker Posey) arrives. Lisa tells Roxie about Hal and his tender heart. Roxie offers help to Jennifer, but Jennifer seeks comfort in Paul. As the service gets underway, Jack and Carly enter with Parker. Carly flashes back to manipulating Hal into having Parker while Jack flashes back to the welcome Hal gave him when he joined the force. Tess tells Barbara that she's had a hard time dealing with Hal's death and Barbara shares her sentiment. Andy holds Emily as she recalls working with Hal to solve the mystery surrounding the explosion that left Barbara scarred. Kim, Bob, and Nancy arrive and offer their condolences to Barbara, who confides in her aunt that God is punishing her for turning her back on Hal so many times. Kim opposes the statement and tells Barbara that God took Hal because He needed him. Margo recalls becoming pregnant with Adam and Tom recalls some advice Hal once gave him. Both are pleased when Adam (Craig Lawlor) and Abigail (Kristina Sico) walk in. Adam falls apart in Margo's arms and Jennifer, seeing all of this, tells Adam that Hal was so proud of him and loved him with all he was. Nikki explains to Barbara that she left town to work on a top secret case in D.C. and was just about to return home. Nikki regrets not having more time with her father, but Barbara want to hear nothing of it, saying that Hal was proud of her and would be happy to know she came. Gwen leaves Will with his Aunt Kim and sings the Sara McLaughlin song "I Will Remember You" as Tess, Jennifer, Nikki, Will, Paul, Parker, Carly, Jack, and Barbara all place white roses on Hal's coffin. As the service concludes, Barbara falls apart and throws herself to the ground, wailing. Emily breaks down even more and leaves the sanctuary with Andy following. Susan remembers the recent times she shared with Hal and regrets ever trying the expiremental drug to help Hal recover. She's relieved though when Bob assures her that the drug had already left Hal's sytem and had nothing to do with his death. One by one, the children go up and spend one minute praising Hal and the wonderful father he was. Margo leans over and tells Jack that the commissioner has named him as Hal's permanent replacement, but Jack tells her that she deserves it more than anyone. Margo, touched, falls apart in Tom's arms. As "The Dance" (by Garth Brooks) starts playing, the camera pans above everyone in the church...goes outside the church...pans up to the sky where a white dove flies across. Hundreds of flashbacks start playing recognizing Hal Munson and the actor who portrayed him for over 20 years, Benjamin Henrickson. As the song ends, so do the flashbacks. End on a picture of Benjamin Henrickson which bears the phrase..."Tender yet tough. Hal Munson. Benjamin Hendrickson. Father. Son. Brother. Uncle. Colleague. Friend. You will be truly missed. Rest in peace." The screen fades to black.
