The Young and the Restless, Roger Howarth, Matt Clark

Daytime veteran Roger Howarth is heading back to “The Young and the Restless” beginning Wednesday, April 1, following a months-long absence, during which his character, Matt Clark, was arrested on a technicality orchestrated by Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) only to be released shortly thereafter.

In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Howarth shares that he’s spent his time off the daytime drama series with family, including wife Cari Stahler, who traveled with him to England for three months to spend time with their son, Julian and his family, as well as some time with their daughter, Colette, who also lives overseas. “It was a beautiful couple of months,” Howarth told the outlet.

As for returning to the Los Angeles studio to tape new episodes of “The Young and the Restless” and what brings Matt Clark back to the canvas after his initial arc concluded late last year, Howarth teases, “Matt’s not one to sit still.” He adds, “He’s been busy — and up to no good. Matt is just as destructive as ever!”

Things kick off in Las Vegas as Matt has unfinished business with Nick (Joshua Morrow), and, when they confront one another, it won’t be like the last time, where Matt returns as another persona like the one he took on last year. “There’s a shift coming up in the story that’s been a lot of fun,” previews Howarth. “They’ve given me some new people to bounce off of, and I really appreciate what Josh [Griffith, executive producer and head writer] is doing. I hope the fans like it!”
