Sharon Case, Mark Grossman, Camryn Grimes, The Young and the Restless

On “The Young and the Restless,” Claire (Hayley Erin) questions Sienna (Tamara Braun) about her future plans, wondering whether she will return to Los Angeles. In response, Sienna confirms her intention to relocate and notes that Noah (Lucas Adams) might be coming too, though Claire senses that might not be something Sienna wants. Meanwhile, Cane (Billy Flynn) questions Adam (Mark Grossman) about Victor’s (Eric Braeden) potential involvement in his family’s disappearance.

Elsewhere, Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) tells Sharon (Sharon Case) that Mariah (Camryn Grimes) isn’t acting the same and how that scares her. Ian Ward (Ray Wise) prompts Mariah to escalate matters, prompting Dominic to wonder what’s going on.

SFT Laine Adamson
An ambitious businesswoman, a contrast to her more sedate sister Sunny, more like her scheming father Ted.
She got involved with Gary Walton, Stu's grandson and broke up his marriage to Carolyn, getting pregnant with his child in the process. She also had a thing going with David Sutton.
There was years of story potential there but Laine left town after a year, never to be seen again for the next 6 or so years Sunny remained on the show.

It's overkill and ultimately boring.

The most egregious to me was the Shea family, where the parents were violently killed off in separate stories about six months apart.
20 years of transition...and one of the more stable periods (around 1993) was when they were nearly canceled.

And they wondered why viewers were leaving. If you got attached to characters that weren't named Mac or Rachel chances are they'd be gone within a year or so.

Don Galloway was getting sporadic primetime work in the 80's, so maybe having a steady income on GH suited him at the time.
He didn't score another series apart from a sitcom flop 'Hizzoner' in 79.
He had a prior relationship with Gloria Monty as they had worked together on secret Storm in the early 60's.
And with Chris Robinson on the way out, maybe they were looking for a similar charcter to fill the void. They were only a year apart in age and even looked similar

I guess at the time, Don Galloway was something of a get for the show, as he was a prime time star. He was on Ironside in the 70s. Not surprising they would try to make his character something of a lead. I wonder why he would want to put in a couple of years on GH. They must have paid him nicely.

AW in the 80's was a revolving door of characters who were brought in and given prominent stories and then dropped-mainly because new writers arrived.
I think they were often too hasty in dumping some characters instead of working with what was there and doing some tweaking.
Derek Dane-the brooding mystery man destined for a sizzling romance with Stacey Winthrop.
Miranda Bishop-Iris in waiting
Amy Dudley, Neal Cory, Olivia Delany, Tracy De Witt Matthews, Diana Frame, Vince Frame, Leigh Hobson etc etc
