Fully agree. I also still cannot accept her as Taylor. It's like Amelia Heinle as FauxVictoria on Y&R.

GH: March 2026 Discussion Thread

How delightfully old school would that be! That’s like something you read in the synopsis from a soap in the late 60’s. Maybe he can suffer hysterical amnesia and end up on a farm with a sweet, down to earth lady with some kind of physical impairment? Bill Bell would be proud!
Kidding aside, yes, we need drama here. It can’t all be shallow twists and fast paced. Every time they slow down just a little bit between Drew events, the cracks show a lot. It’s still better than GH has been in over a decade for me, but the frustration is it could be better. The boring stuff Frank seems to hate fills time and makes the characters richer, which also makes payoffs bigger. We could easily have a hybrid with what he prefers and also at least one actual earned emotion per episode because a character was actually explored beyond a plot point.

I hope so, too! These increases are encouraging!
I still think the show hasn't had it's big break out story yet, and for my taste, still moves a little slow. But, hopefully, this will be the year for it!

I really wish those early episodes would be made available on a streaming service. I remember reading quotes in recent years from Tom Hallick and Janice Lynde saying they wish they had never left Y&R. Hallick said he had been lured by false promises to NBC about projects that never came to be and Lynde said since Y&R was her first TV gig she felt that there were bigger greener pastures to explore, but realized she made a mistake in hindsight.
Re: Trish Stewart. Not too long ago I saw her on reruns of Match Game 74. Kay Stevens (the big mouth) was impressed with her. She mentioned that Bill Bell was also writing Days at the time and Bell was was praising Stewart as an actress and her work on Y&R.

I feel like they struck gold with Donnell and it looks like it's going to be the same with Deanna. I hope the writers really invest in these characters. I find them both stronger than Samantha and Tyrell.
Personally I feel this is where they need to start developing the second family. You mentioned Victoria Rowell and I could easily see her slotted in as the matriarch. It would be incredibly soapy to have her come on as Doug's mom to keep an eye on her grand kids and keep Vanessa in check. I also think there is a world where you can make her Dru, but that's another story.

MyNetworkTv's Telenovela Experiment (2006-2007)

I realised that this year it's been 20 years since MyNetworkTv tried to launch with a schedule of American versions of telenovelas, the popular Latin American format of limited serialized shows that would have complete stories in approx 60-65 episodes each. It launched with little fanfare with a line up of Desire (a version of Colombian telenovela Mara Para Tres) and Fashion House (a version of Cuban telenovela Salir De Noche), the latter having the "star" castings of Bo Derek and Morgan Fairchild. Little to say, they didn't do too well but MyNetworkTV - already having shot several telenovelas, continued on with Wicked Wicked Games (a version of Venezuelan telenovela Aunque me Cuesta la Vida; starring Tatum O'Neal as the "star" casting) and Watch Over Me (version of Argentine telenovela Resistré). With all four telenovelas being rating bombs, they cut the orders of American Heiress (adaptation of Mexican telenovela La Heredera) and Saints & Sinners (version of Mexican telenovela Calle de las Novias), airing them in two hour blocks once a week before quietly pulling them off the schedule.

All shows are now available on Tubi and with two decades (!!) gone since the experiment I thought it was time for a retrospective I guess. Was it before or its time and would've been more successful in the streaming era, or was it always destined to bomb as Americans can't successfully translate what makes telenovelas so alluring to their audience? What was your favourite if you watched them?
