General Hospital, GH

For the second week in a row, several daytime broadcast shows hit new season or series lows, particularly among Total Viewers and Households, during the week of April 14-18, 2025.

“GMA3: What You Need to Know” (1.179 million), the ABC News broadcast marketed as the third hour of “Good Morning America” (2.665 million), was down week-to-week among Total Viewers and hit a 0.7 rating among Households, marking series lows for the program in both categories.

Among the key sales demographics that help set ad rates for daytime television, “GMA3” was up in Women 18-49 both week-to-week (0.15 rating vs. 0.13 rating) and compared to the same week last year (0.15 rating vs. 0.14 rating). Among Women 25-54, the news show was up year-over-year (0.15 rating vs. 0.14 rating).

“General Hospital” (1.759 million) was down -226,000 viewers compared to the same week last year (1.759 million vs. 1.985 million), once again marking the largest year-over-year drop across daytime broadcast. That said, the show saw an uptick among Women 18-49 and Women 25-54. For the week, the ABC soap averaged a 0.20 rating among Women 18-49, up +0.01 week-to-week and year-over-year. Meanwhile, the show’s 0.32 rating among Women 25-54 was up +0.03 week-to-week, and down by the same amount year-over-year.

“The Young and the Restless” (3.051 million) was up week-to-week among Total Viewers, Women 18-49 (0.29 rating; +0.03) and Women 25-54 (0.49 rating; +0.04).

After eight weeks on the air, “Beyond the Gates” (1.544 million) hit a new low among Total Viewers and Households (1.0 rating). However, demographically, the show continues to perform well. The soap opera was on par with its week ago performance among Women 18-49 (0.21 rating) and was up +0.02 compared to the year ago performance for former time slot holder “The Talk” (0.21 rating vs. 0.19 rating).

The series saw its best performance since week two among Women 25-54 with a 0.37 rating, marking the show’s second-best rating thus far in the demo, up +0.02 week-to-week and +0.08 compared to the year ago performance of “The Talk” (0.37 rating vs. 0.29 rating).

The second half-hour of “The Price is Right” (4.249 million) tied its season high among Women 25-54 (0.63 rating) while gaining +219,000 viewers week-to-week and +64,000 year-over-year. BTG is very close to outperforming GH in the ratings! WOW. For a 2 month show... it's doing SOOOO WELL.

How many times during the past two weeks has CBS had a 'special report' during BTG? Seriously, like nothing that urgent has happened during the past few weeks that couldn't wait until the news or cable.

I've been curious too - and I guess it's only certain markets making that decision?  I live in Texas and never once has BTG been preempted for me (yet).

    • Yeah. I wasn't feeling it either. If it was meant to be a chem test, it didn't work. I don't think so. Because I think Neil and Liz moved into that house after Stefano "died", and Neil lived there until he went to go see his patients and never came back

    • Canada aired a repeat today Tues. Nov. 18. So after being a day ahead for the past week, they will now be back in sync with U.S.
    • I was really starting to enjoy it, but after Anspach, Shelton and Keane left, it got a bit blah to watch. Jane Russell was great as Rose, Buddy Ebsen as Toat was interesting as well.  If a second season were in the cards, I would have signed  Karen Carlson on to a contract and cast a couple more women as regulars. The cowboy aspect could continue. Sam Elliott, as always, was fantastic,  The camaraderie between Roy and Quisto was really good as well. Cybill... she was sex on a stick and unapologetic.   Poor Robin Wright barely lasted five minutes, though, before being raped and murdered.
    • I love it that we've gone from daylight to dark -- Luna's even returned to work -- but Steffy is still sitting next to shirtless Finn on the sofa.

    • Is the current DiMera mansion the same mansion Stefano moved into around 1983?  I remember that house was out near a lake, and not far from Doug Williams' night club.  In fact, there was a tunnel connecting Doug's Place to the DiMera mansion.  If it supposed to be the same house, I'm fairly sure it is not the same set.  But I'm aware sometimes soap opera sets change without any explanation
    • Amazing work @slick jones I remember watching and enjoying Yellow Rose but losing interest once they went to self contained episodes, Interestingly that's the opposite of what Dallas, KL and FC did. So maybe YR should have been more episodic at first and then go to a fully fledged serial. But really the timeslot was the problem -Sat @10 was not the spot for a serial. And Rounders turned out to be a poor lead in. Maybe 9-11 Tues following A Team would have helped.
    • LOL!!! He looks like he is reacting as if Luna just passed bad gas or something.
    • Doug Marland came on board shortly before Gloria Monty, I believe. Jackie Smith was in charge of ABC daytime at that point. All of the characters in place were not his creations. Alan was created by Irving and Tex Ellman who wrote the hurricane story a few months before and brought in Alan, Scotty, David Hamilton, Dorrie and Lisa/Lana. His first character was  Bobbie in Jan 78. Apart from wrapping up the Lan/Lisa story he pretty much kept all the stories going just adding new elements.
    • She is 29... she's inching closer, and we know how important age is on soaps.

    • When I saw that look on Will's face, I thought, "Yeah, there's no one on set giving direction to Crew Morrow. There's no one giving notes." His dad Josh was green when he started, but not this green.
