After a nearly 15-year run as Michael Corinthos on “General Hospital,” actor Chad Duell announced on Saturday that he has decided to exit the daytime drama series, stating the decision wasn’t an easy one, “but it feels like the right time in my life.”

In his full statement posted to his Instagram, Duell said, “After many incredible years with ‘General Hospital,’ I’ve decided to step away from the show. This wasn’t an easy decision for me, but it feels like the right time in my life. I’m beyond grateful to Frank Valentini [Executive Producer], the cast, crew, and everyone behind the scenes who have been like family to me throughout this amazing journey.”

To all the fans: thank you from the bottom of my heart for your unwavering support and for letting Michael Corinthos be a part of your lives. Your love and encouragement has meant the world to me,” Duell continued, ending his post with a smiley face emoji.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Valentini responded to Duell’s announcement, saying, “I am sad to confirm the news of Chad Duell’s forthcoming exit from ‘General Hospital.’ I have loved working with Chad over the years and wish him nothing but the best. He is a terrific actor and will be missed by everyone at ‘GH.’”

“There are no plans to recast his role at this time, but you never know in daytime,” Valentini continued. “I can promise a great story for Michael and his family when Chad exits in the new year.”

Taking over the role of Michael Corinthos on the April 20, 20210 episode of “General Hospital,” Duell first made a name for himself in Hollywood in 2008, appearing in two iconic episodes of Disney Channel’s “Wizards of Waverly Place,” playing Ronald Longcape, Jr., and then appearing in a recurring capacity on “The Suite Life on Deck” as Holden.

Outside of the daytime drama series, Duell’s credits include appearances on shows such as “The Bay” and The CW’s “Arrow.” In 2018, he was featured in the Lifetime original movie “Lethal Admirer.”

Throughout his nearly 15-year run in daytime, Duell has received seven Daytime Emmy Award nominations, including three for Outstanding Younger Actor (2011, 2012, 2014) and three for Supporting Actor (2015, 2017, 2023). In 2018, he received a nomination for his role as Adam Kenway during the third season of “The Bay” in the category of Outstanding Guest Performer in a Digital Daytime Drama Series. He won his In 2015, Duell won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

A final airdate for Duell was not known at press time.
