Happy Thanksgiving y’all!

I just wish today had been a little better. And had a happier ending, even though we all knew that this was going to happen sooner or later

I thought Julie was used pretty well today though. And I’m glad that we got an update about Bo and Hope too. And fair warning, the final scenes are a tearjerker.

But I also have to admit that I’m a little annoyed right now because it looks like Chad/Billy Flynn and JJ/Casey Moss aren’t going to be a part of Doug’s funeral and that’s f*cking ridiculous

Idk if there was a budget or a scheduling issue or Ron was just being a petty, lazy bitch again but this crap with Clyde really needed to be put on hold until after Doug’s funeral so that Chad and JJ could be there for their family. That definitely could have happened, considering the way this show gets written sometimes. And for f*ck’s sake, if he could give the world to Robert Scott Wilson and Greg Rikaart, he could do more for actors and characters that fans actually want to see and who actually deserve to be on the canvas. I really, really hope I’m wrong about this but it doesn’t look like it right now.

The rest of the episode was ok. And welcome back, Jack and Jennifer, and Eli and Lani! I know some of y’all don’t like Missy but she is Jennifer lol and seeing her slap Cat and rip her to shreds was great. Just as great as when JJ did it. I do still like the character of Cat, but it was well deserved. And at first, I was a fan of Paulina trying to persuade Eli and Lani to move back to Salem, but after Abe made his suggestion to Lani…

Poor Abe/James Reynolds deserves so much better than this.

And I’m also glad that they had Gabi actually speak to her daughter for the holiday. Btw, Will and Sonny are seriously having a tofu turkey for Thanksgiving?

I happen to be up In time for Days to drop.

So I normally don’t watch Days on my 70inch in my living room and I honestly regret doing that today. Without the old soap opera fog, the show is so high def now it just looks like actors on a set instead of an actual soap opera. I hope there’s a producer that realizes soaps still need that extra flair to them visually, cause my god this is terrible. And I never noticed because I watched on a smaller tv in my office.

All of these characters on the show have reasons to hate Clyde, but he’s managed to outsmart everyone. At this point even Stefano would be scared of Clyde somehow.

The scenes with Jennifer and Jack seeing fake Abby absolutely needed to be Missy playing Jennifer. And they were way less cooky than whatever Cady was doing as Jennifer last time. Everything about this return needed to be Missy.

Thanksgiving Day in Salem. Yawn except for the incomparable Susan Hayes whose true acting skills highlight the mediocrity of so many around her. She's a class act and I will watch her scenes in the coming months and ff through most of the rest.

I can't with the Horton House sets. I'm still in shock at how poorly the set designers handled the remodel; they made it worse than before. Those checkered drapes in the living room. Oy vey. And don't get me started on that dining room set. I was fixated on the misplaced fireplace stuck in the corner by the door and that table lamp from so many other sets.

I hope Jean/Paula got rid of fake Abigail and her overfilled bottom lip.  And pinning a story on Clyde's character who has escaped death and prison more times that a certain president elect has committed crimes.

Jackee looks great. Wonder if she tried ozempic.  But her "acting" is more stilted and mannered than ever. Lamon is fine. Miss him. He never really had a great story.

NuGabi ain't cutting it with me, none of the sultry spark of the prior actress.

I would have had Jennifer find Doug not Jack.

From yesterday's episode. The girl playing Joy is talented. She will go places. Reminds of me the brief Michelle on GL (Joy Lenz). Javi...the actor may have potential but he's rough.

Phew!   Totally agree about Greg. I think he is handsome, and I don't doubt that Javi could find him physically attractive based on looks. As for personality? eh. Frankly, I want to see Javi with the other gays from Salem, Will, Paul, Andrew, Sonny, and JP's Philip

Well, a good day overall, which I am heartily grateful for, since today is a day to be reminded of gratitude. Of course, the day was terribly marred for me by the blight on my screen that is Missy Reeves, who also is so out of the habit of acting that at least half of her line readings seemed off to me. But, at least that was not a surprise. I was prepared for it. As for me, please can we just have Cady back? Soon?

My forever favorite, SSH, shone throughout the episode as Julie, matriarch of Horton House, keeper of history & legacy. She was amusing trying to talk to Chad about her dislike of the presence of that imposter. She, Cat, was of course, out front, in the living room, on the phone, with her obnoxious brother, Mark, when Jack & Jenn arrived from Boston. Jenn got in a good SLAP. Cat tried to apologize, if you can even imagine that. Clyde called & Chad & JJ & Gabi now have to go immediately. Personally, I think Chad's plan is half cock-eyed but what else is new in Salem? Exactly how is Gabi supposed to impersonate a dead Abigail?!! BTW, I was glad we saw Gabi talking to Adriana, good mention.

Now, to the ending, the part that is so hard. Jack trying to wake Doug from a nap, discovers to his dismay that our Doug is gone. He goes to Julie & all he can do is stammer, Oh, no, Julie, I'm so so sorry. The show ends as Julie shrieks NO & drops the candleholder.

I thought it was quite obvious that Missy can immediately pick up Jennifer at any time and it just fits.  Say what you want about her as a human, but she gets Jen.

I thought this episode was incredibly sad for a Thanksgiving episode.  I am not sure today was the day to kill Doug off.

It’s certainly a choice to end a holiday episode on the death of a vet.

And totally agreed on Missy. I didn’t realize how much I missed her as Jennifer until today. Cady can be fine but ultimately Missy IS Jennifer.

It’s a total waste of a hot new viable character to latch him onto what should be the town pariah, but RC is the only person on the planet who doesn’t view Leo that way.

I think this is the BIG QUESTION about the show's planning. Why today? They've waited months. Next week is gonna be the big send-off. Why not wait till then? I confess I am perplexed.

Also, I've been thinking, both Thomas & Charlotte are gonna need intensive therapy. So many adults order them around, what can they be thinking?!!!

And, about Missy, respectfully, agree to disagree.

    • Wasn't there talk of them bringing back Rita as Gus' mother at one point? Or something?
    • I think they are a part of the same family, although Carla was never really scheming for the same reasons, and once her double life was exposed, she stopped.
    • Rachel/Ada, Mona/Erica, a mother/daughter at LOVING, these are all examples of the Agnes Nixon "troublesome daughter/put upon mother" trope. Are Carla/Sadie by any chance one of the pairs that make up this trope? Another thing that these 2 shows might have in common. OLTL had a very strong thematic approach to socioeconomic differences between groups of people. Class differences. AW at an earlier point had this too but to be clear it was not as much as OLTL. So that is a similarity but marginal.  Besides that, I see no other comparable things. Paul Rauch was a very different EP at different shows. Oh, I've thought of one more thing. Using actors from the Broadway stage.  But, realistically that was something all of the NY shows had in common. So I don't think it has any uniqueness between AW & OLTL.
    • When you look at the period between Sweeps, it's as if they tried to maintain a kind of pace where they had a lot of plates spinning in the air & on their fingertips & the whole goal was nothing but to not drop any of those plates. A version of spinning one's wheels. They're not getting anywhere but they give the appearance of a whole lot of activity. I believe it's all about this appearance. At moments they accidentally hit a chord & something resonates but it is a false event.

    • I’m not speculating anything, but I admit, I’m getting a little worried about James Reynolds.
    • I feel like this is what they're doing by creating lots of storylines but their biggest weakness for years is the inability to properly pace these stories and give resolution. A good example now would be the Gio story which has been simmering for months with very little movement. I went from not caring to being invested to not caring again because of how long it's taking for the secret to be revealed. One story like that would be fine but it seems like everything moves at this snails pace on GH. They need to do a better job of rotating the stories so everything isn't in that same treading water phase.
    • However, those of us who watch DAYS have been spoiled. On Peacock there are no preemptions. Not for anything & not in or about any show.  I read somewhere that we Baby Boomers in a way invented instant gratification but then we realized that it was not fast enough.
    • The title track from the follow-up album Hot On the Trail is also co-written by Val Jean:
