Ahead of the show’s launch of Season 5 on Monday, September 9Wendy McMahon, president and CEO of CBS News and Stations and CBS Media Ventures, announced on Thursday that “The Drew Barrymore Show” has been renewed for a sixth season. Additionally, the Drew Barrymore-hosted talk show will see significant time period upgrades in seven of the top 20 markets.

“Drew is a one-of-a-kind talent who is an integral part of the CBS and Paramount family,” said McMahon in a statement. “This early renewal and upgrades are a testament to our commitment to ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ and its loyal audience, who tune in every day to see Drew’s warmth, inquisitiveness and spontaneity.”

“The Drew Barrymore Show” will see upgrades on CBS stations in six markets, which include five of the top 10 markets, along with a station and time slot upgrade in Houston. The show will air as an hour block at 9:00 a.m. following “CBS Mornings” in three markets, including #1 New York (WCBS), #5 Dallas (KTVT) and #8 Boston (WBZ). In three additional markets, the talk show will air as an hour block at 3:00 p.m., including #4 Philadelphia (KYW), #10 San Francisco (KPIX) and #18 (WFOR). In #6 Houston, the show is moving to NBC affiliate KPRC), airing in an hour block at 10:00 a.m.

“Over the last few seasons, stations have realized that ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ is like no other series in daytime, bringing Drew’s brand of positivity and ad-friendly content to viewers on a consistent basis,” McMahon noted. “Many of these upgrades now pair ‘Drew’ with a ‘CBS Mornings’ lead-in, which has proven to be a powerful combination. This season, in markets where ‘Drew’ airs at 9:00 a.m., its ratings are +21% higher among total viewers when ‘CBS Mornings’ is the lead-in.”

During the show’s fourth season, it averaged 1.1 million viewers, with nearly 6 billion minutes watched this season. The series has shown strong momentum across local markets this season, growing viewership by +8% in the first quarter of 2024 over the prior quarter, outpacing its key talk competitors. The series also has significant reach on digital and social platforms, with Facebook growth accelerating by a whopping +600% year to year and Instagram engagements up by +72% year to year.

The Season 6 renewal will keep the daytime talk show on the air through at least the 2025-2026 television season.

Produced and distributed by CBS Media Ventures and filmed in New York City, nationally syndicated “The Drew Barrymore Show” is executive produced by Drew Barrymore and Jason Kurtz.

    • The Anna/Jason symbiotic relationship is the one that sticks out to me.  They went way out of their way to tell us & show us that they really think they get each other. Basically they have INSISTED that they are somehow perfect partners. Plus, in Africa they treated us to a "Are We About To Die?" kiss. Meanwhile they have worked & overworked the idea that they were  NOT going there of course because to Jason she is & always will be Robin's mother. Okay, geeze, fine, use time, space & dialog to push a variety of different messages, some of which seem to us to clash! We're just the fans, being told what to think. Don't mind us at all when we grumble. If Robin were watching this show, I can only imagine the "Letters to the Editor"!!!
    • I wish the Black male characters felt more fleshed out (and I’m not talking about gross 2000s-style man pain like with Jonathan Randall or Billy Abbott). I feel like we don’t have as much access to their interior worlds, which—fine—female genre. Right now, the balance on BTG feels off to me gender-wise, mostly because there are a lot of Dupree daughters (Chelsea, Naomi, Dani, Nicole, Kat, possibly Eva) and only one son (Martin). Feel free to disagree. I think Andre, Bill, and Martin feel closest to male “main characters” to me (Jacob had his quick moment), in that they can drive a scene from their POV and not as a supporting character. I’m waiting for the secrets to be fully revealed so that the men can show more layers. But things like having two cheating husbands stand out more in this type of environment.
    • I'll get back to you when Jordan appears on screen. Lol!
    • Don't feel bad: most do. I know it's in the "less than" category of opinions. And lunch? What's for lunch today?

Definitely am improvement overall, hah. I want someone to call him "bastard". Ha. Maybe I should sneak into Port Charles for a second.
    • A very underrated writer/director, IMO.  Of course, not all of his films were successful or memorable, but the ones that are - "Kramer," "Places in the Heart," "Nobody's Fool," etc. - are masterpieces.
    • I tend to ignore the fact you like Tanisha Harper.  She just blends in.  When she comes on screen I literally mind drift and think what I want for lunch. Melgar's Lily at least iconically blew up!!!  And once you know she's going to explode LM is tolerable in rewatch. It's coming!!  Half the young people in town call him "Uncle Sonny" or, well, "Dad" lol.  You know Emma's going to be on that bandwagon.
    • Jennifer Brooks had insisted that life go on since all her family knew that death might be eminent for her. Brock had given them a philosophy by which to live. "God grant me the serenity to accept that which I cannot change, the courage to change that which I am able and the wisdom to know the difference." Lorie asked her father to let her give a big party for the family and friends to celebrate her parents' thirtieth wedding an-niversary. He disapproved until Lorie said this was not a reminder of how little time there was, but a celebration of the life they had had together. Jennifer was pleased and looked forward to the party.  That evening, Stuart gave Jennifer her anniversary gift before the party rather than after. It was a diamond heart pendant to symbolize the heart he gave her long ago — his own. Lance and Lorie gave them a trip to Paris as a gift. Stuart had wanted to take Jennifer away, but she wouldn't leave the girls with their problems. The party was such a success that Jennifer told Stuart that this had been the most wonderful night of her life. Jennifer slipped away in Stuart's arms that night, clutching her pendant.  Stuart called Lorie who located all her sisters and asked them to meet at their parents'. He explained that their mother felt no pain and was happy as she passed peacefully away. Peggy felt she should have been home for her mother rather than visiting a friend, but Stuart said it was sudden. Lorie blamed herself for giving the party which was probably too much. Stuart told her how much that party meant to Jennifer. Brock came by to tell them that Jennifer had him draw up instructions for her burial and wanted only her family with her. He also had a letter for Stuart. She wrote him this love letter in case she didn't have the opportunity to tell him in person how much their life together had meant to her and this is why she wanted him to remarry.  Snapper visited his mother after he learned of Jennifer's death. He felt he hadn't seen enough of her recently.  After the funeral, Peggy told her sisters that she would not be going away to school. She was the only one left to care for their father because Chris and Lorie had husbands and Leslie had a career. Stuart insisted that Peggy finish packing and catch her plane to school as planned.  Chris was worried about her father after Snapper told her to keep an eye on him because grieving husbands could become ill as they didn't remember to eat. She called to insist that she was coming over to fix his dinner and found that Liz was there. Liz asked him for an extra key so that she could do the laundry and cleaning to repay him for earlier kindnesses.
    • I would assume "friends of Ripa" would come into play.

    • I'm aware of that but I was more curious about which characters were going to be included and what actors they were loooking at.
