After not following RonC on social media due to how he utilized the communication tool, I started following his Instagram.  And now that I've seen his beach house, and his other properties, I think he's having the last laugh.  It is a nice life that he has made for himself.  I sincerely doubt he would work on another show because he doesn't seem to need the income from being a staff writer.

That being said, I began to wonder which of his characters would survive into the next regime.  I would put them into separate categories.  We have legacy characters like Allie, Alex, and Johnny whose personalities have been defined by the current writing, but were already part of the cannon. Then, we've got Jada, Chanel, Paulina, and Leo who are all leading players created during his tenure.  And finally, we have people like Connie who seem designed to be short term players, because they serve a specific story.

I know Leo has his detractors, and so I'm not interested in responses based on people's taste or desires.  But, I am honestly interested if people think that Jada, Paulina, and Chanel will be around two years from now (given that RonC has written well into 2025).

I think Paulina will at least stay on due to her marriage with Abe, plus I think the higher ups like having Jackée Harry on the show. So Chanel might stay on by default.

Jada? She was essentially created because they like the idea of having a woman black cop after Sal Stowers' exited. I could see her go either way tbh.

I like the actress playing Jada, but I am slightly concerned that she'll be backburnered because every new regime seems to try to get rid of Rafe as their first order of business.

And with new Hernandez men on the horizon, he may not be necessary as a talk-to for his sister.

I also wonder if the Greene family will survive the change?  They seem vital to the current Abby story, but may not have long term staying power.

IIRC, AnnaLynne only signed a years' contract so I think her story was always limited. It was reported that she signed a contract in December 2023, so I guess it'll become obvious from social media if she's staying beyond that.

Slight tangent, AnnaLynne's raucous rugby player boyfriend Danny Cipriani's divorce was featured in the tabloids yesterday, and they only referenced her as a former 90210 starlet, so the tabs are ignoring DAYS press releases.

I recall that Steve Burton also only signed for one year, but it felt much longer.

It would be nice to have a new family in Salem, but I suspect most writers want the chance to start their own legacy from scratch, like Marland did with the Snyders on ATWT.

Is anyone else surprised that Sonja Alarr is still on staff?

Not that she should be punished for her husband's issues, but I thought she'd be gone by now.  Yet, she wrote Friday's script, when Gabi needed to flashback a third time to Connie telling her to cheat on Stefan.  As if, Gabi heeds the advice of her assistant that she has worked with for a total of two days.

I guess we don't hear about it as often when staff writers depart, and last Friday's script could've been written in 1882 by the time it got to air.

    • Hooray we made the exact same critique to Londonscribe!!!!!
    • I don't think they had any idea who he was this time last year. I think they were keeping their options very open. Same with totally dropping the Trina romance that was spoiled for him in the mags once FV clearly took a shine to him. Frank's priorities are bright and blazing in one color. I do think Gio and Emma seem to have worked out given that she is very dry and sarcastic and he is like a hot golden retriever, but I'd still play the field or explore quads with both with very different people - Emma with a scheming young man (of color), Gio with possibly Trina or someone else, or even a boy. Then maybe put them back together, who knows. But of course none that will happen.

    • He definitely got lost in the shuffle last year. First, they were implying that he was Drew’s son, then he was nothing more than just Violet’s bff

And then they changed him to being Dante and Brook Lynn’s son, which was clunky at first but I’m enjoying the storyline now.
    • GM is adorable, charming and fun onscreen despite months of nothing to do until recently, and has a bodacious bod. I'm not cosigning the show or this story - I haven't watched a full episode in over a month - but I think we're all taking the small victories in 2025 at this point. I'm open to testing this theory!
    • I think Jason might've posted some numbers for the syndication a while ago and the numbers for Falcon Crest was horrible. Like 1.5 rating or something, which was terrible.    ETA: it was actually Paul Raven:   New to syndication 60 min Fall Guy 67 markets 3.1/8 Falcon Crest 110 markets 1.1/5 To get into the top 40, you needed a 4.6/9 rating for reference - and Falcon Crest managed to get into a lot of markets to begin with. In the fall of 1985 Dynasty, Dallas and Knots were syndicated (show / rating / share / coverage % / markets): Dallas 3.4 10 51.7 92 Dynasty 3.4 10 48.7 47  Knots Landing 3.3 10 12.5 20  So, Knots as an example trippled Falcon Crest's rating with 20 markets - I'm sure those were major ones but it just goes to show you how much Falcon Crest bombed in syndication.
    • It's not bad but the stories move too slow. It's the same problem when Dan O'Connor was CO-HW with Van Etten, they have a million stories and they all drag on endlessly with no resolution. I'd argue the majority of the stories airing now are good but you get sick of waiting months for something to happen.
    • Thanks. I must have missed that period entirely for Lifetime.
