I love classic cooking shows when you could actually learn something instead of these current stupid competition crap fests. Here are 3 episodes I ran across of the PBS series " The International Kitchen". It was based in Hawaii and created and hosted by Nino J. Martin. According to what info I found out, Martin was a big wig in TV production in Hawaii. The show ran from about 1979 till Martin's death in December 1988. He would do some shows where he did the cooking and some episodes would feature a guest cook . I'm not too crazy about some of the recipes featured here, but is fun and relaxing to just to watch the process. I don't remember watching this series back in the day as a kid, but it was a pleasant surprise to discover.

Yasssss, I love a good cooking show! There's something just engrossing about watching the slow and meticulous process of cooking/baking as a bunch of ingredients turn into a complete meal, and there really are no special effects needed. I was a daily viewer during the "food p0rn" era of Ina Garten, Giada de Laurentiis, Michael Chiarello, etc. because the focus was still on the cooking and presentation, but I really can't watch too much of the over-the-top competition shows.

I've become a big Julia fan via her Pluto TV channel. The color French Chef is my favorite, but I do enjoy watching her aggravate the fck out of Jacques Pepin:

I've never seen or heard of this one, but it definitely looks like it's worth checking out.

I'll always love my man Pasquale, the singing Italian Chef! Always so comforting, like watching your Nonno make dinner. Was he known in the US?

Yes Julia and Jacques were hilarious together. Jacques said he met Julia shortly after coming to the U.S. in 1960. She was getting ready to release her first cookbook " The Art Of French Cooking" that brought her to the publics attention. He read the manuscript before it was published and said it was brilliant. James Beard also saw it and said the same thing and joked that he wished had written it. Beard, Pepin, ad Julia were long life friends.

That Hawaii "The International  Kitchen" cooking show was a pleasant surprise. What few episodes I found have been fun to watch and I hope more shows up. I saw a few short clips of the series on PBS Hawaii archives, but not the full episodes.

Another Hawaiian based show that ran in the 80's was "Kathy's Kitchen". She was a vegetarian/plant based chef. She often had her children on the show cooking with her (I think I read she had like 11 kids). Several of her shows are on youtube. I'm not vegetarian, but it's fun and relaxing to watch.
