In fairness IIRC it wasn't Pratt; I believe Brown and Esensten wrote the original return story (supposedly with some input from Agnes, who I suspect may only have provided the idea of David Rasche's villain being a Gardner). It was Pratt who later added the angle with Natalia and Jesse having shacked up with Laura Bonarrigo from OLTL for decades.

The story was far from genius but I will give B&E credit for frontloading Darnell and Debbi on multiple soaps and working with a strong Black canvas on Loving, TC and their brief AMC run in this period (which had like 4-6 Black characters at that time, not all related, though again the stories weren't great). I still remember us all revisiting it in 2020 and talking about how revolutionary the major Black quad during the Loving Murders was given what crumbs we often have today.

Oh completely; I was unaware James Harmon Brown & Barbara Esensten were behind the return of Jesse; I was just getting into All My Children at this point, honestly, but it was nice seeing a "classic" couple reunite in a then-modern time. Those like Brown & Esensten just don't exist much anymore. Have hopes that Mulcahey may be able to do something alike this on General Hospital at some point in 2024. And I've heard some good things concerning the Loving murders (was it also called the Corinth murders?).

B&E were never brilliant writers anywhere - their hackwork is equally infamous - but I will give them credit for the Loving Murders (which are controversial to this day, as a stroll through the LOV thread will tell you but which I enjoyed a lot) and for their seeming commitment to a Black canvas at most of their shows.

A few years ago the entirety of the storyline was uploaded to YT; it lasted from (IIRC) July '95 to the show's end in early November '95. I don't know if it's still there or not, it went up and down a few times. That's how a lot of us got to revisit it during lockdown, I hadn't seen it since it first aired. I think a lot of people would credit the quality of the LM material vs. B&E's multiple attempts to revisit that hype (like the less popular Masquerade serial killer arc on The City, or the Nursery Rhyme Stalker mess on GL which I believe was also them) to the other creatives on staff at Loving at the time, like Linda Gottlieb who actors from the show recently confirmed was consulting in that storyline in some way - I suspect the excellent ad campaign was her, if nothing else.

But as for how they've been referred to, it's always only been the Loving Murders online or in print. It was alluded to occasionally on other shows (OLTL '95 had Todd hilariously ponder if the unstable Viki might have been 'piling up the bodies like cordwood' in Corinth) and when GH had Luke and I think Holly visit Corinth and the abandoned Alden mansion in summer 2013, I believe Luke did actually call them 'the Loving Murders' in a clever way by referencing the killer's motives.

    • All true, and all an enormous problem on this show. -- The business stories are maddening because none of it makes any sense, none of it has any connection to the real world. As you said, sitting around and discussing mergers, takeovers, and job switching is not a storyline. -- The deck chairs are constantly rearranged on the Titanic -- that's what this show is. Summer, Chelsea, Sally, and Chloe have been in design for how long? And we've never seen ANYTHING from them. Carrying around an iPad isn't enough. BOLD is terrible, but at least they show us dresses from Kohls and jewelry from Amazon. -- I know it's baked into the DNA of the show, but I will never enjoy seeing Jabot and Newman treat each other as if no other companies exist in the entire world. A new magical line of cosmetics is not going to bring down a company like Jabot. -- This is a writing problem, not a budget problem. An enormous amount of cash is not needed to write compelling business stories and show real products. This is writer LAZINESS.
    • Right? GOD FORBID Vanessa be allowed to cut her own mother-in-law down to size, when REVA REVA REVA needs a rival to sharpen her claws on. RME I mean, they could have, but Long and Curlee (like most HW) seemed to forget about characters once they left town. If they mentioned Trish five times in the ten years she was gone, I'd be surprised.
    • I really have no problem with Kai as a character or with the actor. The problem is putting together two very nice people -- Kai and Trina. Neither of them has a bad side, neither of them has a devil on the shoulder, neither of them is impulsive. I think that's a problem in a soap relationship. Yeah, I agree. All this freaking out might make sense if Lulu wanted to do a tabloid expose on BLQ's LOVE CHILD. We have no indication that's the case.
    • So Sonni would have somebody to talk to who she wasn't conspiring with (Will or Alan)? Alex kept telling Sonni how important her friends were...when she had virtually no friends. Instead they created loyal servants like Jane and Vera to give Alex people to play off of. They did that with Iris on AW, but Vivien was mostly there for comic relief Alex keeping Marah's paternity a secret was absurd. But I still love the scene between Alex and Alan where he convinces her by reminding her how they protected each other from their abusive father. Chris and Bev ATE that scene. Unfortunately, that took place only a few months before he exited the show...always thought they could have built on that, explored more how being Brandon's children screwed them both up. Maybe even used it as an explanation for the way their relationship could constantly swing from hatred to love. Instead of it being merely dictated by the plot.
    • The first one is Cass Winthrop dressed as Krystle Lake on Another World (not from his original creation of the character to hide from the loan shark Tony the Tuna, but at a romance convention trying to find out what had happened to Felicia who was missing). The second one is also Another World, Jake McKinnon as Doris although I don't recall what his purpose was.
    • I know there was one brief scene in the summer of 1989 where Lillian did mention Calla.. but in relation to her past relationship to Ross and it was to Roger while he was a patient at Cedars.  I think he was trying to pump her for information on Ross.. and for some reason, Calla's name came up.   I could see perhaps Beth mentioning that her mother Lillian was visiting Calla.. but not exactly giving any sort of details as to the going ons in Calla's life off screen.

    • They're neither great nor terrible AFAIK, but it is more a question of the streaming numbers in this day and age vs. actual TV airings. The Chibnall era reminded me much more of the crisis years, but I do think it's a very real possibility now as well due to the streaming bubble collapse affecting the show and its prospects.
    • ANYTHING to get her off the screen..she COULD have been interesting if she and Van had a few face offs..(there was a mild one of her going back to work...but I wanted something meatier "Bitch, I am Vanessa Chamberlain and I don't take advice from someone who followed the..career path you did!" I did like Alex's outright disdain for her.
