I wonder what the purpose of keeping Elena on contract even is at this point. It seems like the money could be freed up to bring in some much-needed new blood.

Is she  still listed in the contract cast? 

If so,most likely like others before, she has been moved to recurring but is still listed as contract for some reason.

She must have gotten the advice from Kate Linder and Christian LeBlanc, to keep quiet and not end up like “Dougie”

lol.   There's no way she's under contract.  She had zero appearances in January, zero in December, 2 in November, zero in October, zero in September.  That's 2 shows in 5 months.  What actor would sign a contract like that?

So Y&R makes no official 'demoted to recurring' announcement and for whatever reason Britni keeps quiet also.

Looking at some of the monthly numbers I'm wondering if a few other 'contract' players may be recurring.

I feel like the show had an opportunity to do some interesting with Elena for the first time ever after she found out about Nate and Victoria. She could have turned vengeful and evil and wanted revenge. Instead, this show avoids drama like people trying to avoid Covid.

I believe when the show comes up for renewal again, we'll see even more of this.

The household ratings are down from the last renewal, and the remaining audience is older.  The licensing fee for the next renewal term will undoubtedly be even less than it is now.  I expect they'll "secretly" drop a few more folks to recurring once the new budget takes effect.

I still find it odd the show unceremoniously decided a bit odd that the show just let Elena fall through the cracks right as she was on the verge of a new story with her bringing JT to town that just got dropped like a hot potato.

Elena maybe unlikeable, but she  was the catalyst for the Nate/Devon rivalry, yet is now MIA, and the show has no  female AA characters on right now which is shameful.

I feel like in many ways Audra is now the replacement for Elena and Hilary/Amanda.

So true and I agree with you both. Also worth mentioning that Imani was dropped as well and Audra was simply given Imani’s story instead (with the silly background with Noah thrown in).

I adore ZS as Audra but I do wish the show had at least kept Imani as well as I thought even the recast was good, but of course I will never understand Josh Griffith’s thought processes.
