Appearing in 123 episodes of ABC’s “All My Children” as a recast Del Henry from 2005-2007, actor Alec Musser has died. He was just 50 years old.

According to a press release issued by the San Diego Medical Examiner’s office on Tuesday, Musser’s manner of death was declared to be suicide, with the cause of death listed as an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.

The report further notes that on the morning of Saturday, January 13, Musser’s fiancée, Paige Press, “awoke and went to find the decedent seated and slumped forward on the bathroom floor.” After noting a firearm near him, Press called 911, where paramedics and law enforcement responded and confirmed the death.

While the official date and time of injury is listed as unknown, the medical examiner’s office indicated in its report that the “decedent was a 50-year-old White male who lived with his fiancée in a home in Del Mar [California]. His fiancée last knew him to be alive on the evening of 01/12/2024 when she had gone to bed.” Musser was declared dead at 6:43 a.m. local time on 01/13/2024, according to the report.

In a series of posts to her Instagram story on Saturday evening, Press shared several images of Musser and herself, together and separate, with one captioned saying, “Today is the worst day of my life. We were so happy.” She said in another message, “You were the best fiance [sic] I could of ever asked for. I don’t even think I can drive my g wagon anymore.” In a third message, Press noted, “I am never taking off my ring. @alecmusser I love you forever.”

Other photos shared include some with Musser and his dog(s), with one message saying, “You were the best dog dad,” while another said, “Rue will never stop loving her dad,” which accompanied a photo of Musser holding the dog in his right hand while his left hand is on the steering wheel presumably steering the aforementioned Mercedes G-Wagon.

Born Alexander Barrett Musser on April 11, 1973 in New York City, Musser resided in various parts of the New York Metropolitan area, including New Jersey and Connecticut, before eventually setting up roots in San Diego, California, which is where he achieved his higher education, graduating from the University of San Diego.

An avid athlete with experience working at a ski resort and as a lifeguard, Musser eventually caught the eye of a modeling agent, leading to his first modeling job working for Abercombie & Fitch. He appeared in campaigns for Gianfranco Ferré, Speedo and Target. His work was also featured in magazine ads, including those shown in Men’s Health, GQ and Cosmopolitan. He also appeared on the cover of several magazines, including Maximum Fitness.

While transitioning from modeling to acting, Musser made a name for himself in 2005 when he joined the SOAPnet reality competition series “I Wanna Be a Soap Star” during the show’s second season.

As the winner, Musser landed a 13-week contract on “All My Children,” playing a recast Del Henry, first played by Winsor Harmon in the mid-1990s.

Following his stint on “All My Children,” Musser continued acting, appearing in such shows as the Lifetime comedy series “Rita Rocks” and ABC’s mega-hit “Desperate Housewives.” In 2010, Musser made a notable appearance in the 2010 film “Grown Ups,” playing the Water Park Stud that the wives drooled over, at the annoyance of their husbands.

Co-written by and starring Adam Sandler, “Grown Ups” grossed over $270 million worldwide and led to a sequel film, released in 2013. Musser did not appear in the film.

In a post on Instagram on Saturday, Sandler said of Musser, “I loved this guy. Cannot believe he is gone. Such a wonderful, funny good man. Thinking of Alec Musser and his family and sending all my love. A true great sweetheart of a person.” Since its posting, Sandler’s post has received nearly two million likes, including one from Musser’s former “All My Children” co-star Alicia Minshew (ex-Kendall Hart).

Also sharing memories of Musser from his work on “Grown Ups” was actress Salma Hayek, who posted on Instagram a clip of the actor during the aforementioned water park scenes in the film along with a touching message from her time working with him.

In her post, Hayaek said, “In loving memory of Alec Musser. He was so kind professional and absolutely hilarious [sic]. His early departure breaks my heart. I feel so blessed that I got to meet him. My sincere condolences to his family and loved ones for this great loss.”

    • Some other thoughts on today's show. I don't care for Bill/Hayley as a couple. I think that Bill is sexy and looked good on today's show. But I don't think that him and Hayley really have any chemistry. They seem mostly isolated on the show unless someone like Dani is sparring with one of them. I do wonder what is going on with Bill's hand and why it is trembling. He is trying to keep that from Hayley. I also don't care for June right now. I like Jacob/Naomi but would rather see them do something else than what they are currently doing with June right now.  I liked Nicole/Dani continuing to support one another after the fallout from their marriages. I think it's interesting that Nicole asked Dani if something was going on between her and Andre and Dani lied about it. I do wonder if Dani/Andre are starting to have stronger feelings for each other (maybe even falling for each other a little bit). It does seem like stronger feelings are developing between them and I wonder where that may lead for their storyline. And I enjoyed Anita/Vernon as well. I like that he supports her and wants her to do the reunion with the Articulettes. It does seem like at one of them really doesn't want much to do with her after she reached out on today's show. But maybe they will reunite and there will be drama between her and her bandmates. I am interested in seeing who the show may cast as her bandmates. I hope they get a couple of good actresses in the role.
    • Looks like the Townhouse to me, I've been calling it Paulina's Townhouse (which Marlena and Kayla also use).
    • Angela Bassett was also on somewhere in 1985 wasn't she. The NY soaps did so much for struggling actors. That's one of the reasons I will never stop hoping we get more of them.
    • Oh, yeah as the episode went on, I love that they gave a plausible reason for him to back out. Most soaps who use an idea/story point to define a character would just drop it and make it seem so jarring and out of character. So I love common sense...or the SilkPress craziness...won out.
    • All these years later, and Shelly Burch is still one of the most striking women I've ever seen.
    • I really enjoyed today's show. Today was the most I have ever liked Martin. It was very sweet how he invited Eva to get to know his family. He has good chemistry with her (along with Kat). I liked how she got to know and started to bond with his family including Samantha who was understandably standoffish with her at first. I thought her styling Samantha with different looks at the end was cute. Martin's family is her family now too and I liked how he made that clear to everyone at pizza night at his home. The twins have a new Auntie.

I think it will be interesting to watch Martin/Eva bond along with her bonding with the rest of his family. And seeing how others including Nicole and especially Kat react to that. I thought for a moment that Kat might actually show up at pizza night after Martin invited her but she didn't. I also enjoyed Eva trying with Kat. They do have chemistry together and they are cute, lol. I do think they could end up being twins, but even if they aren't I still enjoy them together. Whether it's sparring or Eva trying to bond with her or whatever.
    • Hahaha. It was worth a try. Alas.
    • There were lots of spoiler pics for week of May 5-9 of Devon/Lily/Holden/Damian/Amy/Nate/Audra. I posted them on the spoiler thread that week because they all looked so pretty. I was hopeful.  Sorry to read in the recaps that it was mostly discussion of Dumas!
    • Random Hump Day Reactions Despite my better judgment about commenting on appearances—what is going on with Philip’s skin? He looks distractingly sunburned. Did the makeup team forget to use foundation? Or powder? Or that they’re broadcasting in high definition? Meanwhile, Kristen looked like the saddest Alice in Wonderland. The dirndl was cute, but everyone in that mansion could desperately use a pop of primary color—and a reason to smile. It’s one thing for Belle to be blinded by love for EJ. It’s another for her to hear him admit to kidnapping Rachel and treat it like a punchline. Overall, there's zero urgency from anyone about getting Rachel or Kat back to Salem. Most of the time, Kristen and Cat seem to forget their long-lost mothers are still being held elsewhere against their will. At least when Doc, Kayla, and Kate went missing, people cared. Paulina even talked to that urn! (Still waiting to find out who was in the urn, by the way…) Raise your hand if you believe Rachel innocently brought up Tate’s baby. If your hand is up, do not click on any suspicious email links today. You’re vulnerable. And finally, deep breaths: Jamey—or someone he edits—named the miracle drug Versavix. Fun fact: real drug names are developed by branding teams after the research is done. Versavix sounds like the draft name someone scribbled during a Red Bull crash and forgot to replace. This isn’t even a good fake drug name. It’s like they forgot that the same show once gave us a literal ‘love potion’ that made Sami fall for Austin. Versavix makes me nostalgic for the days of ‘L-dopa’ and Stefano’s mind control chips, at least they didn’t sound like a discontinued allergy medication. (crud, another day, another broken promise to stop complaining about this).
