IMO, "Frasier" represents the end of the era of four-camera, half-hour comedies that were made for intelligent adults who appreciated being treated as if they had actual brains.  It's also the last sitcom I can recall that seemed to value story and character development over just plain jokes, an affliction that has come to infect the genre overall in the years since.
