The week of September 19-23, 2022 marked the official first week of the 2022-2023 broadcast television season, and it saw most daytime broadcast shows up week to week in Total Viewers. “General Hospital” (2.165 million) and “NBC News Daily” (1.121 million) had the most significant week to week gains, up +152,000 and +186,000 viewers, respectively, compared to the week of September 12-16, 2022.

In the case of “NBC News Daily,” despite tying for last place in both Women 18-49 (0.2 rating) and Women 25-54 (0.3 rating), the program beat out “The Talk” (1.384 million) in the unrounded demos (0.19 vs. 0.18 in W18-49; 0.29 vs. 0.28 in W25-54 rating) and was just -263,000 viewers behind the CBS series in Total Viewers. One week earlier, “The Talk” led “NBC News Daily” by a healthier +419,000 viewers. “The Talk” still ranked higher in Households, beating “NBC News Daily” (0.9 vs. 0.8 rating). “NBC News Daily” was down -576,000 year to year and -602,000 compared to the 2020 figures for “Days four Lives,” which is now available exclusively on Peacock.

In addition to gaining viewers week to week, “General Hospital” was up over its performance in 2020 (+99,000 viewers) and tied for number one in Women 25-54 rating alongside the second half-hour of “The Price is Right,” “The Young and the Restless” (3.300 million) and “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.867 million). The CBS dramas saw week to week gains, up +72,000 and +32,000, respectively. Compared to the same week in 2020, both shows increased the most of all daytime broadcast shows, up +353,000 and +212,000 viewers, respectively.

The season premieres of “The Price is Right” (3.552 million / 4.069 million) and “Let’s Make a Deal” (2.191 million / 2.599 million) mostly went unnoticed as each series lost viewers week to week, year to year and compared to their performances in 2020. The only exception was the second half-hour of “Deal,” which gained +17,000 viewers week to week.

“The View” (2.167 million) continued to lead all daytime broadcast talk shows among viewers, gaining +72,000 viewers over one week earlier. Meanwhile, “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (1.605 million) also saw weekly gains, adding +87,000 viewers, and was the only daytime broadcast series to see an increase over the same week last year in Total Viewers, up +9,000 viewers.

“The Young and the Restless” (3.300 million) and “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.867 million) also saw week to week gains, up +72,000 and +32,000, respectively. Compared to the same week in 2020, both shows increased the most of all daytime broadcast shows, up +353,000 and +212,000 viewers, respectively.

What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of September 19-23, 2022 in Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance in 2021 and 2020, respectively. A closer look at the daytime soaps, including their daily performance in the demos, will be posted on Thursday.

Note: “NBC News Daily” year ago and 2020 figures are compared to the performance of “Days of our Lives.”

    • Christian Streaty wrote her second freelance script today on Days. Surprised they gave the first funeral episode to a newbie.
    • And the third thing, which I have no cite for, and I may look to see if one is findable, but supposedly she said that the show had too much gay content in it. And, to be fair, that could be someone making a criticism about balance & not be bigotry but when it's added to the other, that's why it bugs people.

The greatest tv series season finale in history.
    • Mick Savage was sooo unbearable. And more unbearable was the reaction from the female characters to him - they were acting like he is God's gift to women and sooo irresistible. To a point of unbelievable cringe.
    • Today was a short one. Only 33 minutes.  The ‘Part One’ graphic at the beginning was pretty interesting though. I didn’t expect them to do something like that.  I like how everything was focused around John and his family and friends. Again, the acting and the dialogue was very well done and well written. And I love that they were able to incorporate Drake’s, “swing for the fences” phrase into the script. It was nice seeing everyone interact with each other, especially characters who don’t often share scenes together. It felt like every character was part of a big family or community. Plus, an outdoor funeral in June makes a lot more sense than an outdoor funeral in December.  But yeah, it’s very, very strange that Will isn’t at the funeral, especially since we know that

I would much rather he had been there today. And, where’s Anna too? And Jack and Jennifer? What was the point of bringing them all back if they weren’t going to attend the funeral? I expected Steve to want to close down BlackPatch, though I’d rather he just retire and let Paul take it over. But I like that Kayla was there to comfort him. I wonder if he’s going to change his mind at some point.  It was nice seeing Shane again too. Now, he just needs to have more scenes with his son lol but I enjoyed seeing him comfort Marlena. I’m not really sure about his interaction with Cat though? Was it really necessary for this to happen now, at John’s funeral? They could’ve waited a little longer to introduce this story arc.  Btw, was Tate bleeding from his head in his first scene with Arianna?
    • This is the coldest early June in my life. It's like it's January.

    • Now this strikes me as funny. I have it up on my acct. The thing is I only have S2. Didn't want either 1 or 3.  Perhaps I should just list all of these that I have up.  Parodies: Dirty Sexy Money, Filthy Rich Incomplete: The Monroes, All That Glitters, Falcon Crest (have all just not all up), Once & Again S2 only Complete: Models Inc, Pasadena, Pacific Palisades, Paper Dolls, Flamingo Road
    • This is wonderful! Thank you for posting this! I loved the first two seasons and never got to see the final season when they cancelled the DVD release. I've been hoping this popped up on streaming but no luck. Happy I'll finally get to see how it ended!
