Lindsay Hartley (“General Hospital,” “Passions”) has quickly emerged as the go-to director for romance gon awry, and her latest thriller for free to view streaming service Tubi takes things a step further when the classic tale of Romeo & Juliet goes beyond star crossed lovers kept apart by rivaling families.

In “Romeo & Juliet Killers,” set for release on Friday, February 25, viewers will witness a dramatic interpretation of the ripped from the headlines true crime story of a rebellious teen and her boyfriend who murdered her single mother in their upscale, gated community in Northern California and were dubbed a modern-day “Romeo and Juliet” when they ran away and attempted suicide.

In the movie, Kelly Sullivan (“General Hospital,” “The Young and the Restless”) plays Joanne, a mother trying to protect her underage daughter, Tyler (Leigha Sinnott), from a boyfriend who seems to have no problems with getting intimate with a girl who has yet to come of legal age. Wanting to get rid of those in her way, Tyler concocts a plan to kill her mother so that she can be with the much older Boston (Zachary Roozen).

It’s forbidden love, twisted desire, and a dangerous obsession all rolled into one.

Last year, Hartley teased her work on the film with a post on Instagram alongside Sparks.

The real-life story of Tyler and Steven Colver was featured on the ABC News program “2020” back in 2011.
