Daytime Broadcast Ratings, The Talk, The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives

Since launching its 12th season in September, CBS’ “The Talk” has been struggling to find an audience after virtually cleaning house last year with only Sheryl Underwood remaining in terms of veteran status (Underwood has been with the show since season two). In January 2021, Amanda Kloots joined the panel followed by Jerry O’Connell in July, Akbar Gbajabiamila in September, and lastly Natalie Morales in October. Four months since completing the new and improved roster of co-hosts, the show seems to have finally found an audience in recent weeks, as evidenced by the show’s performance among Total Viewers during the week of January 31-February 4, 2022.

For the week, “The Talk” averaged 1.662 million viewers, its largest since the week of April 20-24, 2020. While this wasn’t enough to move the show out of last place in viewers, nor the key Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 sales demos, it is still a marked improvement for the series compared to one week earlier and the comparable week last year in viewers. Demographically, the show is virtually on par with one week earlier and the comparable week last year.

Airing just four episodes for the week before handing its slot to NBC’s coverage of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, “Days of our Lives” rose week to week in both Women 18-49 rating (+0.02) and Women 25-54 rating (+0.04). The soap averaged 1.850 million viewers for the week, gaining +77,000 over one week earlier. In fact, the soap was up over its performance in 2021 (+68,000 viewers) and 2020 (+63,000 viewers). “Days of our Lives” returns with all-new episodes on Monday, February 21.

With the exception of “The View” and “The Talk” (not including either “TODAY” hours as their 2022 numbers are currently unavailable), all daytime broadcast shows gained viewers compared to their performance during the same week in 2020. Further, only “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The View” are down year to year, albeit a very small drop for the daytime drama series (-6,000 viewers).

“The Price is Right” and “Let’s Make a Deal” continue riding a wave with renewed interest. Broken into two parts, each half-hour of both series is for the most part up in viewers week to week, compared to last year and compared to their performances in 2020. The lone exception, however, was the first half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal” which lost viewers week to week, down a mere -5,000 viewers compared to one week earlier.

What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of January 31-February 4, 2022 in Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance in 2021 and 2020, respectively. A closer look at the daytime soaps, including their daily performance in the demos, will be posted soon.

Note: Total Viewers and Households for “TODAY 3rd Hour” and “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” were not available at press time which currently skews the rankings in each category. Comparable 2020 figures for “GMA3: What Need to Know” are based on the performance of “GMA3: Strahan, Sara & Keke.”

    • I think Dani cares about her sister, but I agree with you. She's using this whole mess to be heard and make herself feel better. I wish Ted and Eva told her to fck off. I had to laugh when Dani commented on her and Anita confronting Ted. She acted as if they destroyed him. That's not what I saw. Dani has been dialed back from those first weeks, but I can't say she's likable. As long as she's throwing shade at Eva for her work as a hairstylist -- while ignoring that she did nothing except eat celery sticks and walk the runway -- she can kiss off. Barely tolerable, and Lindstrom is terrible in the role. I don't find him scary at all, and his money laundering plan is stupid as hell. I gagged when he texted Vanessa to ask if she was thinking about him. That's throw up time.   I just don't see how that makes Ashley any more interesting. And are we really asking for another storyline where a father connects with his adult daughter? I know there's no direct parallel to Eva's story, but come on. If you're in the minority, I'll join you. I have zero interest in any of that. -- I still fail to see Nicole and Vanessa as best friends. Nicole is grounded and stable and responsible, and Vanessa is not. It made more sense to have Dani and Vanessa being close. -- Ashley and Derek were actually OK today. I feel sorry for the actors, honestly, because they've been given nothing. It's crazy, because so much of the rest of the show is firing on all cylinders.
    • Same. But given how the writers like to have her have good moments and bad moments...and Dani has been background as of late...it's about time she had some bad moments.
    • I don’t even know why you responded to the bait.
    • I only watch for Sharon and she’s barely on. The only good thing going at the moment is Jack and Diane scenes and they’ve made Diane such a wuss lately which is making that unbearable to watch too
    • I feel like Earl Hamner and his crew brought in Richard* BECAUSE they knew almost right away that Robert Foxworth was so dull as Chase.  At any event, Richard, IMO, proved to be much more interesting as Angela's chief adversary. (*Or brought him back, depending on whether we're including the original "Vintage Years" pilot).
    • And it will also eventually air S2, which will air its finale in Canada this Thursday, May 15th! https://tvline.com/news/law-and-order-toronto-criminal-intent-season-1-2-the-cw-1235449356/ As an American that has managed to watch it in real time, it's very good. Frankly, I think it's the best of the L&O franchise as of now.
    • You are getting like me. It's getting to the point that without any Damian sightings...it's been the fashion that is holding my interest. And it should not be that way at all.
    • I don't mind Jan either. If anything, they could be using her more to get her daughter's POV. Not to mention her role as one of the Have-Nots.    I also don't mind the local talent. Just look at soaps that were in NY or the shows that film there, they always go for the local talent and we get to find new faves.
    • I'm not going to watch (because...well...that M-dude...lol) but knowing the history between Henry and Roger, I could see Henry wanting to enable Hart to stay independent of Roger. I could even see it as Henry having the last laugh at Roger. Roger hated "the Henry's" of the world, which basically meant anyone who had money and social prominence. Twice Roger swindled Henry out of a chunk of his fortune, so giving some to Hart, who hates his father, is a form of karma.
