I was watching Alan Locher's "Locher Room" today, and they did a tribute to Agnes Nixon.
I was told by a fellow viewer that if I wanted to see Agnes' work I could find it at the Northwestern College archives. I was curious, does anyone know how to access the online archives for Northwestern to look at Agnes' work? I am on the site, but all I am finding is the ability to request files that I would have to view in person when visiting the library. Is there anything just scanned in?
Thanks for any help,
Erik

Irna was a master as using themes and character history to build up to the moment you're introduced to the characters. It's not hard to get right, but if you don't know how to structure a bible, it can be very daunting. Since Irna created out first soap opera (and she did a bible of sorts for it), I'd say she's the master of the soap opera bible followed by Agnes Nixon? Why Agnes? She wrote the bible for the first successful TV soap opera, SEARCH FOR TOMORROW, the first half-hour soap opera, AS THE WORLD TURNS, and Bill Bell had a copy of her ALL MY CHILDREN (circa-1965) bible in his archive. I think that speaks volumes!

while in her unfinished memoir, ‘all my worlds,’ irna says ‘aggie and i wrote the presentation., when i asked her about her role in the creation of the ‘worlds turns and she downplayed her input — saying that the bible and backstory were largely irna’s vision.

in amw, irna described the division of labor for the first 2 years: irna was training bill bell was on gl, aggie was writing all the  ‘world turns scripts, getting the breakdowns by mail, or sometimes dictated over the phone.

irna goes on to say that ‘writing 5, half-hour scripts a week became increasingly difficult for agnes,’ and she and aggie ‘began to feel the strain’ of working long distance (aggie was in philadelphia, irna in chicago). so irna had bill and aggie trade places, and that aggie welcomed the opportunity to work on the 15-minute gl.

I know Irna died before she could finish her autobiography, but is any of what she did complete available anywhere?

this is the full listing of irna’s materials held at the wisconsin historical society. scroll down to the part 3 of the collection, box 12. pretty sure the material has not  been digitized, so you’ll have to contact them for a copy — not sure of cost.
