There are two other daily soaps in France : « Demain nous appartient » (tomorrow belongs to us - 2017-present), And « un si grand soleil » (such a big sun - 2018-présent).

There are many soaps in South Africa. i tried watching « generations » years ago.

For Germany, you could also add "Sturm der Liebe" (Storm of Love, 2005-present) and "Rote Rosen" (Red Roses, 2006-present). They are officially labelled as telenovelas, but they air new episodes Monday to Friday and have been running continuously since their debut. Both shows change their main couple every "season" (= once a year), but most other characters stay on board and the setting has always remained the same.

South Africa: Generations: The Legacy (2014-present). Originally called Generations, it debuted in 1994, and ran until a dispute led to the entire cast being fired in 2014. The present iteration was born from that.

Nigeria: Tinsel (2008- present)

Nigeria: Super Story (2001- present, though reportedly may not be around for too much longer). Funny story. And I’ve never disclosed this, but in somewhat of a ‘sliding doors’ moment, I could have worked with the show’s creator.

Germany has another soap that started in 2007: Dahoam is Dahoam (Home is Home).. Technically Berlin - Tag und Nacht (berlin - Day and Night) and Köln 50667 can be added/labeled as soap operas too. They run for over 2200/2500 episodes by now.

And i am shocked that two south african soaps got cancelled between 2020-21.. Rhythm City

NPO Zapp cancelled their only soap opera in the Netherlands:

SpangaS! It’s a soap opera about the  students. After 15 years it will come to an end on April, 28th!

I loved that show! I will miss it so much. I was one of the few that started it when I was 17 and have hold on to it until today!

SpangaS even had a lot of cast member joining the last soap of the Netherlands: Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden!

Now I understand why Noel van Kleef joined Gtst even though she is still appearing on SpangaS. I thought she would just leave SpangaS but the show has been axed

They had 15 seasons, a few movies, specials and even a live tour in 2011.

They revamped the show before COVID happened in 2020: SpangaS de Campus! Now it was more about campus life

    • Actually that is not what happened. Nor is the timing right for it to have been. We learned from a WOST interview with Pete Lemay  in 2006, which can be found on YT, that it was Fred Silverman's idea to do the 90 minute show. I don't know how much you know about him but he had these amazing successes as head of daytime at both ABC & at CBS. Then he came to NBC where basically everything he touched turned NOT TO GOLD but to shite. Some of the most expensive shows ever produced up to that time were huge flops. Although even he, like a broken clock, could be right on occasion. However, as we know, he was not right about the 90 minute show. As a matter of fact, afterward,  NBC programmers, who worked FOR him, were asked why they did it & they were quoted as saying it was because they couldn't think of anything else to try. It was a stupid idea from a man who had reached the point where he was throwing anything at the wall to see if it would stick.

    • I stopped watching Another World in 1990. Simply, lost interest in the show.  I had watched the show from 1973 to 1990. The 90 minute show started the decline of AW.  NBC panicked with expanding AW due to the GH hoopla. As mentioned above, 1982 was a trainwreck for AW.  The introduction of the Shea family, the movie storyline involving Jamie, and Steve Frame favoring Rachel over Alice. The writers went into that direction due to the forgettable performance of Linda Borgeson.

    • Ive seen that theory thrown out but the one thing against it is that Leslie and her family lived in Chicago. She only came back to DC last year after her husband died. Unless they say Alan made a trip to DC and died while away, she wouldnt know about that. However I do think the angle of her finding out that Martin was involved could work as that gives her leverage against Bill too for covering it up. She'd want to get revenge on him by threatening to have him disbarred
    • What a good write-up @Errol! Nice seeing the nod to Duplaix's lead.
    • The Egypt location shoot was cancelled because of the Achille Lauro cruise ship hijacking

    • And, to me it is a little bit hilarious that AW fans all over continue to refer to it as Egyptian Dust Recently elsewhere I've been running polls. When did you stop watching AW or What storyline caused you to stop watching AW. You may be interested to know that sticking it out till the bitter end is winning by a landslide. Next highest vote getter is - no surprise - Frankie's murder. So that covers like 60% & next 20%. Then the votes drop way down to 10% and well below but a wide array of reasons are given, including but not limited to  Justine Lumina Rachel having twins at her age, how ridiculous Mac's death the 90 minute show firing JC, George R & Dwyer Hmm, I know there are a few more, in the 1%-3% range but I cannot think of what they are. Sorry, my bad. Should have made notes but I didn't know I would be posting about it. LOL!!
    • A kind angel has added both episodes to the vault (UK Diva TV broadcast version).
