Well, Rene thought it was timely to go away, so why not have a thread about 'Allo 'Allo?

I really enjoyed the first years of this. Gordon Kaye was such an inspired lead - mischievous and likeable instead of the easy sleaze role he could have played. Such a rich supporting cast too.

What I liked about this show is that it never tried to be edgy or cool. It was what it said on the tin: a Carry Onesque romp set in Nazi occupied France. Everything was up for laughs, and while it was naughty and even a bit subversive (a bumbling idiotic Gestapo for example), it was never truly offensive. And Gorden Kaye as Rene was great central casting who anchored the whole show and was a cynic/realist the audience could relate to. There were some episodes where I literally laughed out loud (Blackadder was another). The later series were repetitive but that happens.
