Members SFK
LOL, I totally hate the idea of a kids channel that runs 24/7. Take your teething ass to sleep! Mom, dad, put on a tape if the baby wakes up, or do what parents used to do, rock them and sing to them.
Members dragonflies
Same here, I could never give up my cable, hulu doesn't have everything cable has. I have a feeling not a whole lot would interest me on netflix or hulu. my viewership would be limited and not worth the cost
Members SFK
I was watching TV last night and I literaly whipped out a notepad because there were at least six different shows I wanted to wach.
Webmaster Errol Posted January 5, 2013 Webmaster Share Posted January 5, 2013 That's why Cable/Satellite providers are now signing deals with networks/production companies that will allow viewers to watch their shows on their computers, tablets and smartphones, while still paying their subscription fees. You can now watch ABC, NBC, FOX, CW (not CBS) programming on your phone or tablet either for free or via your subscription to Dish Network, DirecTV, Comcast, etc. You can only view Starz/HBO/Showtime/EPIX programming via deals with your cable/satellite providers on a multitude of devices and products. I know I only keep my satellite provider because of my ability to access my premium channels outside of my actual TV.
Members dragonflies
believe it or not I don't have a tablet or an iphone or anything like that. I wouldn't watch tv on them if I did have one. Guess I'm too old fashioned lol
Members Dana
Perhaps some tweaks are needed, but I think the new production model is about a 1000 times better than the original one. It sounds far more manageable for an online production. That's not to say I think it's going to be great or even happen, but I thought the original plan of a 60 minute program 5 times a week online was a terrible and unworkable idea. I'm not sure yet if I'll watch the AMC reboot online as I don't particularly like watching streaming on my computer for more than a few minutes, and especially not regularly, but we'll see. Webmaster Errol Posted January 5, 2013 Webmaster Share Posted January 5, 2013 While I never directly lived in that era, my family really never had a good cable setup until about 1996 when we got DirecTV. Before that we only had 30 channels of crap from our local provider. Sure, we had MTV, Nickelodean, etc, but the only channels I wanted at the time was Disney Channel (when it was a premium channel), HBO, Cinemax and Showtime , which you had to pay extra for while still being part of the 30 channels of crap. Members SFK
Lord, I remember when my cousins who lived in another county had A and B cable channels. That was annoying as [!@#$%^&*].
Members EricMontreal22
I wouldn't mind, and while I don't think this should be a pay thing I might even pay a bit, if they had some sort of iTunes option where you could download the show and keep it--onto your phone or whatever the way I do for many podcasts and a few video ones. Members Dana
I actually plan to get an iPad mini fairly soon, though it will likely be more for just accessing the net and reading ibooks rather than watching a lot of videos and streaming shows. And just to make clear, I do occasionally watch TV shows I miss online and occasionally watch streaming shows on Netflix; I just don't like to do it regularly. Members SFK
If I had to rely solely on the Internet for my TV viewing, sadly, I don't think i'd ever watch the news.
Webmaster Errol Posted January 6, 2013 Webmaster Share Posted January 6, 2013 I get news updates on my iPad/iPhone from the NY Times, 7online (WABC), ABC News, etc. I don't watch the news on TV. It's more graphic than graphic films.
Members EricMontreal22
Until 1990 or so, for whatever reason, we still only had a tv that had the 13 channels (and UHF!) on the dial, and that's all we paid for. I remember feeling amazed when I was 10 or 11 and suddenly we had like an amazing 30 channels to choose from, lol.
Members Dana
Of course, if I ever set up my TV (which would have to be a new one) to stream from the Internet, then I might be more inclined to watch streaming shows that way since I would be sitting far more comfortably. Members SFK
There have been times when I didn't have cable and watched solely my digital converter. That's when I'd go online and watch the A&E shows for example. I have to say, having cable back has been a joy, especially since I switched providers and get tons of basic channels my last provider didn't, well, provide. But I will gladly watch AMC/OLTL online. Though I am curious to see how disciplined my viewing will be. There is something to be said for "appointment television".
