Members JAS0N47
In doing some research recently, I found a few interesting tidbits I thought "Days" fans would enjoy seeing: These 1980's articles prove that the more things change...the more things stay the same! IT WAS TRUE IN 1989, AND IT'S TRUE NOW: "It's one of the little things in life that we can count on." Thankfully, that still holds true today! IT TOOK 23 YEARS..."Days" gay story plans in March 1989: "A well-rounded gay story would be very successful, and as far as Days is concerned, it could still happen." NBC WHIZ: Before cancelling most of ABC's daytime lineup, this man used to oversee "Days"...and was considered a whiz? WHO'S THE BOSS?: "It's my shop because I own the show, but every good is executive is judged on the staff he hires to do the job." WHO SHOULD JENNIFER CHOOSE?: "Jennifer's confused right now about what she wants. And there are different things about each of them that she likes." Also, check out these two interviews, featuring a young Melissa Brennan and a current "Days" star: YOUNG MISSY: A young, star-struck Missy Brennan on first meeting a current "Days" star: "She was sooooo REAL!!!" CURRENT STAR IN 1986: "I don't drive a car and I have absolutely no intention of ever doing so!" Members DRW50
This is great. Seeing all those old articles together. You're right, some things never change.
Members ER Tosh
(From the Ian Buchanan article)" Come on If someone says "I will never drive a car and have no intention to do so! you would swere you were face to face with your blue-haried 83 year old aunt Gertrude" No actually I would think it would be a youngish hippie guy from the City saying that. It's funny how sterotypes change.
Members DeliaIrisFan
These are fascinating! How many of those transplants from other networks that Frons was bragging about actually had staying power? I know Denise Alexander, et al's poorly conceived characters didn't work out on AW. I've also read about Lenore Kasdorf's blink-and-you-missed-it stint on SB (wasn't she a casualty of the Dobson/JFP war?), and as a general rule of thumb, didn't a good half of the actors from other shows who went to SB exit within a year? If only Frons had remembered his adage about too many blondes when he got to ABC, or we might have been spared Stacey Morasco, among others. Although I guess Gigi was (always at least partially) brunette, so those sisters provided the balance and diversity he was talking about here. What a piece of work Anne Howard Bailey was, to say in print that Jennifer should choose Jack because they come from similar socioeconomic backgrounds and "in the long haul, it would not be a suitable match" for Jennifer to be with a Latino, working class guy. I haven't seen much of Melissa Reeves's work, but I have to say, from everything I've read about her, she sounds like she was so much fun before she was born again. Even now, she seems to be more one of those "judge not" Christians. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when she and Frances Reid were laughing backstage about the absurdity of either of them playing scenes endorsing saving oneself for marriage.
