Prospect Park Wants to Air AMC and OLTL On Cable Network

Jane, you're right, I wonder if and/or how being on TV as well would affect their funding for New Media.

Like AMS, my initial hunch was Hallmark. I think Oprah's feelings re: OWN will stick. I know this may sound silly and at the risk of offense, I just feel that the shows airing on one of the women's networks won't be as good for them as airing on a hip, gender neutral one. I of course know what the soaps' target audience is, but I think being affiliated with forward thinking PP for the innovative "online infotainment" channel and airing on a TNT, USA, or FX-type channel might broaden their appeal. Particularly, if the soaps themselves become a little more forward thinking in their approach. I guess I am and I am not saying that the soaps may need to be a little less soapy to work in their new homes. But take Degrassi for example. I think their novella format did extremely well, didn't it? These shows do stand a fighting chance in the right hands.

I wonder about their "New Media" funding too. If you get money from the government (by promising to do one thing), shouldn't you have to do that one thing successfully first and then look for other revenue streams? PP hasn't yet cast a single role nor have they said which roles will be cast. OLTL has no EP, HW or staff. I'm not surprised the two soaps' start-up date on the web is ''sometime in the first quarter of 2012.'' That gives them until April Fool's Day to do what they promised us and US. happy.png

Female leads on the USA scripteds are strong modern females (IOW, the antithesis of ABC/Disney's soap females). Even USA's secondary 55+ females (like Sharon Gless on "Burn Notice") are nothing like a 55+ female from PV or Llanview. For that reason, I think today's OLTL and AMC would be bad fits at USA. PP is going to have to find EPs, HWs and writers who accept that this is the 21st century for all ages and both genders, if they want all ages and both genders giving them a chance to succeed on the 21st century's "new media." Not necessarily. As long as they can show that the government grant money didn't get used on a different project they can pursue more than one objective. In fact, promising to look for other funding would work in their favor.
