Either that or Goutman is writing the stuff.

It should be the same week that Adam leaves. Palmer's death is what prompts him to leave town(yet his brother's death barely had much impact )

I think the difference is Stuart was killed whereas Palmer will likely die naturally or due to a heart problem like Adam very well could. So Adam will be affected by the fact that his great nemesis, a man of great power who thought of himself as invincible (like Adam), wasn't so invincible and was gone in an instant.
