Wow, I can't believe this thread is up to 26 pages and I'm just now seeing it! Kate Collins is my favorite daytime actress EVER (No.2 is Julianne Moore) and it was so great seeing her back on AMC. She carried this show earlier this year...sort of like she did in the late 80's - early 90's. Granted AMC was infinitely better back then, but I have a hard time remembering many storylines---but I sure remember all of Kate's stories!

Some of the best:

*Natalie the vixen comes to town and tries to steal Jeremy away from Erica. I still remember the first day Kate showed up. I was instantly a fan.

*Nat moves into Cortlandt manor and becomes Palmer's nurse and enters into one of Soap's best triangles:Nat/Ross/Ellen.

* Ross rapes Nat. I hate rape storylines, but as those go, it was one of the better. For one thing, it wasn't a stranger, but someone Nat had been involved with romantically. I still can't believe Kate wasn't nominated for an Emmy that year.

* Nat reconciles with Jeremey and has a lovely wedding and then it was zzzzzzzzz for a while.

* One of Nat's patients leaves her his fortune and she becomes the richest woman in town. Adam marries her, trying to rebuild his fortune by taking her's.

* Trevor appears...text book "soap chemistry" at its best.

* Kate's shining moment: playing Nat and Janet. Not only did she deserve an Emmy nom, she should have WON.

My friends still make fun of me for this: Back before Internet and we had to wait on soap mags to give us the news, I was in the supermarket with a few friends and saw the Soap Opera Weekly headline stating that Kate Collins was leaving AMC. I shouted "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" and scared half the store. :-)

I actually found a tape not long ago of a bunch of Kate's apperances on Oprah, Donahue, Good Morning America...she was really quite the big star back then. I'm glad she's had a great life in Chicago, but I've missed her. I'm glad she gave this brief stint on AMC as a gift to her fans.

If I can get them converted to DVD, I sure will! The Oprah clip is from @1988--Kate has long, long hair and is on with Jean Le Clerc (ex Jeremy). The Donahue clip is @1990 and it was when Kate was doing that play about back stage at a soap. Then the GMC interview is when she was hot and heavy in the middle of the Nat/Janet stuff.

I also had some other talk show appearances like the Dr. Ruth show and a couple of times where she actually hosted Good Morning America, but I fear they are lost. :-(

Vincent Irizarry throws in quick a mention that he was dating Catherine Hickland when he first heard about Marj.  I wonder when this was.. She was married to David Hasselhoff for a good bit of the 80's. And then MEK for most of the 90's. Fun fact... David Hasselhoff played Michael Knight on Knight Rider. Then she married an actor named the same as her first husband's character.

    • I agree with a lot of what has been mentioned before me. I think BTG desperately needs another family.  Character ages still throw me. There have been several times where I still think Martin is Vernon and Anita's child and then a character says something and I'm like oh right. It doesn't help that he hardly socializes with his parents or Kat. I do not care about the secondary characters... Ashley, Derek, Vanessa, Doug, Pamela, Joey, Jan, Mona, the gym dude can all go and I wouldn't care. The exception being Shanice. There is a decent hospital set and police station set but most characters have other jobs. They could have easily had characters interact at work and make it seem organic. Instead they had Derek showing up at someone's work let alone a police officer to talk about his quarrel with Ashley. Also, falling into the trap of having stories that soaps no longer have the budget for. That fashion show was tragic and so was the award gala. The potential trial between Naomi and Bill being dropped was probably due to lack of a courtroom set. However, how soapy would it have been if Bill had a heart attack at the trial and Naomi feeling guilty. It would have also been a way to easily redeem the character of Bill to Naomi but also Dani and Chelsea who would face what losing him would ultimately mean.
    • Not too upset with Martin and Bradley being married. It's a first for daytime, so I love that BTG came out of the gate breaking barriers. I hope that the show plays on their past in the most soapiest ways. This doesn't have to be Martin's first marriage. What if Bradley's parents were some real grifters or con artists? Does he have siblings?      I agree with/ @Cheap21    Kat gives me a smart businesswoman.  With everything she is currently dealing with I can see her becoming a shark in the boardroom. So I'm looking forward to that business storyline.
    • That's what happened with Hope Williams Brady on DAYS.  Started as rich princess, went to the police academy.   Became a cop.  Now consults for the I.S.A.
    • I know Curlee/Demorest tried to give Roger a conscience in regard to raping Holly, and Zas is magnificent in those scenes with Alex. But he kinda ends up blaming Adam and the fact he (well, really the writers) ignores raping Rita and being responsible for her and Ed's child's death make it less than convincing.  I do think during 89-93 they were careful to not whitewash his past with Holly, but his occasional bouts of conscience always seemed to be overridden by his obsession/lust for her. The only purely good thing I can ever recall him doing is helping Maureen during the blackout, and even then, had she lived, he would've found a way to call that favor in. I've kinda resisted saying it, but it's kind of clear to me Long was determined to have her own version of Erica Kane, and God help us all, it ended up as Reva Shayne. Although at least Kim could act. (Sorry LaLucci fans) Honestly, I'm not even sure CBS soaps ever a character as larger than life as Reva.
    • Regardless, I'd still like to see more episodes from the 80s...there is very little of Charlotte Greer, Kirklands and Greenberg's out there sadly.
    • A black family having a white maid would be a good subversion of stereotypes. Also want to say that while the overall show has many flaws, the biggest one that's legitimately stifling is the lack of a rival family.
    • I also do not like the bits I've seen with Delia during Labine's 83 return. I am glad when she came back for the last time in 1986, she allowed Delia to move on from Frank.
    • Thanks for the well-detailed reply. I'm fairly early in my viewing, so I have some time before it goes nuts. Thanks a lot! @kalbir and @DRW50 thank you so much. I am just approaching 100 episodes, so I'm good for now.
