Top 10 Artists of the Decade:

1. Eminem

Don't call it a comeback. Marshal Mathers has been here for 10 solid years. "Relapse," Eminem's 2009's effort, marked his fifth consecutive No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 -- in other words, every album he released this decade went straight to the top of the charts. "Me and Dre are back in the lab like the old days," Eminem said of the set in 2008. "I don't have chemistry like that with any (other) producer, not even close. We are up to our old mischievous ways." Though many of his early-decade contemporaries have been all but forgotten by the masses, everything Eminem touches still turns to platinum.

2. Usher

For much of the 2000s, Usher Raymond IV was the unstoppable force in popular music. He scored a whopping eight No. 1s on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart (more than any other artist this decade), plus his 2004 album "Confessions" sold more than 20 million copies worldwide. And the man with the golden pipes and fancy footwork shows no signs of slowing down. "There are tons of artists I want to work with," Usher told Billboard last year. "I'm interested in working with artists who are out of the range I'm accustomed to. I want to try new things."

3. Nelly

No sophomore jinx befell Nelly. His 2002 album "Nellyville" became his second consecutive Billboard 200 topper, and scored two monster hits, "Hot in Herre" and "Dilemma." "I can't do (debut release) 'Country Grammar' again," the rapper said at the 2001 Billboard Music Awards. "You have a lifetime to do your first album, and 18 months for your second. It's just a matter of drawing on the talent I have inside." His talents proved to be extensive, as he placed three more albums into the Billboard top five before the end of the decade.

4. Beyonce

Billboard's Top Female Artist of the 2000s has cultivated a catalog of hits that transcend chart achievements. "Crazy in Love," "Irreplaceable," and "Single Ladies" all topped the Hot 100, but they also helped Beyonce become the queen of this decade's pop-culture pantheon. "I've always tried to pick songs and singles that were … a part of things that people are passionate about and want to talk about and debate," Beyonce said in October. "'Single Ladies' is an uptempo song that's fun. But it's also something women go through every day."

5. Alicia Keys

"I really know that I'm going to be here for a long time," Alicia Keys told us in 2003, "so I thought I owed it to myself to live my life and take the time I needed to develop my songs, my music and whatever vision I had to do it right." The thought process has worked well for Ms. Keys. Not only did she score one of the biggest songs of the 2000s ("No One" ranks No. 6 on our Hot 100 songs of the decade chart), her "Empire State of Mind" collaboration with Jay-Z has spent an entire month atop the charts this year.

6. 50 Cent

50 Cent spent a staggering 45 weeks on top of the Rap Songs chart this decade, more than any other rapper can boast. Not only did the hits make the Queens , NY native a nationwide phenomenon, it took his rhymes across the globe. "At first, my love was just to be in the studio and make the music," he said in 2003, "but now the biggest thing is the response of the people. I've been in Tokyo where people sang word for word and when the music stopped, they couldn't speak to me. I've seen the music break the language barrier."

7. Nickleback

Nickelback's "How You Remind Me" is the top song on Billboard's decade-end Rock Songs chart. The achievement may not win the Canadian band any favor with the rock press, but they're not sweating it. "We've just accepted that we're never going to be the critics' darlings, lead singer Chad Kroeger told Billboard in 2007, "and we're OK with that."

8. Britney Spears

When Britney Spears wasn't shaving her head or dropping babies this decade, she was churning out a succession of hit singles that continue to resonate with fans the world over. She scored four No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 and two Hot 100 chart-toppers, including "3," which debuted atop the chart in October 2009. "I want to do things that people have never seen before," she said in 2001. "I don't want to be considered a role model."

9. Destiny's Child

"The best thing (about being in Destiny's Child) is that I've gained two sisters who have my back," Michelle Williams told us in 2006. "I learned about love and loyalty through good and bad, thick and thin." We're sure the string of multi-platinum albums and five No.1 singles this decade didn't hurt either.

10. Jay-Z

Even though Jay-Z has appeared on 14 top 10s singles this decade, it took him until 2009 to take a song from one of his own albums to No. 1 on the Hot 100. But the artist with the empire state of mind has more things on his plate than crafting hit singles. "I'm an entrepreneur, that's what I've been all my life," he told us in July. "I can't just sit here and make records and not do anything else."

I think this is the first time in a couple of decades that an artist from the previous decade didn't make it to the top 10 artists in the present decade. Madonna (#2 artist of the 80's and #6 artist of the 90's) and Whitney Houston both made the top 10 of Artists lists from Billboard in both the 80's and 90's. 90's top artist, Maria Carey, managed to peak out at #11 on the artists of this decade list though.

They took into account both how well singles and albums did. Britney doesn't have a very successful run as a singles artist, though her recent singles have done better than singles from her earlier in the decade. Also, there was a huge drop off in album sales and album longevity (in terms of how long they spent on the album chart) for Britney from the beginning of the decade to the end of the decade. Whereas, Eminem, for example, tended to have more consistent sales album to album and his albums have had more longevity on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Their formula was a point system that combined chart performance data from the Billboard 200 albums chart and the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. This system awarded points, based on a complex, inverse relation to chart position, for each week a title appeared on the pertinent charts. The decade recap reflected chart performance from the start of 2000 through the end of the 2009 chart year.

    • LOL - literally just added an edit to my post, because as I'm watching live right now, Dahlia is swimming in the pool alone and there is Marcus.  So annoying. And Phillip just revealed himself to Rick. I have to stop watching now, but curious to see how those interactions go!
    •   LOL.  I realized this week's Lope montage also omitted the Paris remote Lope scenes with Kim Matula. I mean, they repeat stuff over and over and over. I have unintentionally memorized B&B scenes that I barely watched --- because it was repeated in dialogue and immediate flashbacks in following episodes over and over and over.  Yet somehow Brad thinks viewers (even casual views like myself) wouldn't notice the glaring omissions in the montage?  or as dragonflies said, the montage using Lope scenes that happened during the Steam marriage?
    • Well, you wont be happy at all because I think Marcus of all people shows up..you know they have to have a scene were Dahlia is swimming and Marcus joins her..despite the fact that he is a decade older then her. You could tell they were trying to make them the next big thing but then, just dropped it.  The whole wedding was also one of the reason McLaibey was so short term.
    • I would have bought it if Ed/Rick/Michelle were all there, but 1) Ed said he couldn't go because he had to work, to which even someone highlighted that he's chief of staff and could easily go if he wanted; 2) Michelle got on the plane with Rick to go, but J showed up and the Spaulding's kicked him off because why would they want another random teenager to go, so Michelle ran off the plane after him and Rick just let her go (haha, it was kind of dumb); and 3) Rick and A-M have barely said 2 words to each other in the 15 months I've been watching so far, so it was weird he's now just by himself with the Spauldings/Coopers.   But I know now why they're doing this, Rick is clearly there because Phillip has shown up. Very plot-driven, but at least I’m getting old flashbacks of Rick/Phillip during this.  Slight correction - Ed never showed up on the plane, just Rick and Michelle.  Ed had already made the decision he wasn't going. Once 'Slutchelle' (haha!) ran off, I thought it was so weird that Rick either didn't run off after her, or didn't call from the plane to tell Ed. It was only when Blake called Rick, who happened to be with Ed at the hospital, that he happened to tell Ed, in midair, "oh hey, you may want to go find Michelle, she ran off" hahaha. Yeah, I get that being a location shoot, they had to minimize the number of people, but to have Dahlia there over Bridget still irks me. I get it, at this point, Bridget wouldn't have any connections to any of the people there outside of Lucy, just still hurts. ETA: Ugh, and now Marcus shows up!
    • Maybe Brad can turn that day into an entire season.
    • I didn't get to finish the episode last night. It's been a week and I was not able to keep my eyes open.  I will say that I understand everyone's comments on the new Ted. I think more so than anything is the shock. Where else in modern TV do you get an actor to replace another from one day to the next without a break or some storyline to explain it. However, it's such a soap staple that I can't help but love it when I heard "The role of...is now being played by..."  I think the actor is good. I felt like Kat felt different playing against him. I wonder if it was nerves or just maybe this actor bringing something difgerent out of Colby. I do think Maurice's acting range showed itself to be weak when he got these more emotionally charged scenes to play. I actually clocked him as one of the weaker actors from Day 1, but he definitely wasn't the worst and I didn't think he needed to be replaced. However, I'm open to new Ted. Maybe Maurice can come back as Andre's daddy back from the "dead."  Ashley is really becoming unlikable with her attitude towards living with Derek. Although, she should have shut him down the minute he imposed the idea on her. Also, if I'm living with someone and I have a guest coming over soon which I forgot to mention to that person than they are more than welcome to stay. Especially, if that person is someone we both know. They'll just be made aware that next time I'm going to need them to leave for a few while when I have time with a friend. It was so rude the way she approached it, which makes it even more confusing as to why all the characters around her put her on a pedestal and Andre is obsessed.  I honestly don't see any chemistry between Andre and Ashley. Andre gets on my nerves. I'm sorry yall, but I can't with that man. He always gotta let out a huff in that last syllable when he's saying something emotional. It's like okay now Big Bad Wolf. Also, what is the appeal of Ashley? She's boring. The character is bland. I do feel for the Ashley and Derek actors because what are they even doing there...taking up space.
    • Liam hasn't had a purpose in years, none of the Spencer's have. The Spencer family should be written off and let Finn adopt Kelly, he's more her dad anyways.  IMO I think SC seen the writing on the wall with Liam. Brad is never going to let the character grow or evolve. Even dying he's being wishy washy and a waffler lol. Scott out there asking for Liam to be a villain and paired with Ivy only for Liam to continue to waffle I'd rather see Scott back at GH as Dillon or Michael Quartermaine   But I dunno I read Scott has issues with Frank that stem from his time on One Life to Live Also all the Lope flashbacks where when Liam was married to Steffy and one of them was when Hope was telling Liam she was pregnant(he was married to Steffy then) lol I need Steffy out of that white blazer, please burn it, it's awful. This day has gone on for like 3 weeks now. ONE DAY
    • Thanks! I never venture back to re-watch that period of the show
    • I was wondering about Liam wearing that hat for such a long time, as it was supposed to be covering up his surgery wound -- but he wouldn't need a hat for this long a period of time. Then I noticed everyone's wardrobe is the same, too, and realized that it's been the same "Forrester/Logan day" for two weeks of episodes. I guess he just got out of the hospital and all these episodes are discussing what happened?
    • I would have to say FD was the luckiest man in daytime who stayed way past any reason for him to be there, but yes, totally agree that Alan should have died at that point, which would have spared us more years on mustache twirling bombasity.   I know it was a big get to bring Joan Collins on, and I loved her Alex, but it would have been great at that point if they had just brought Amanda back. Phillip is named by Alan and Alex as the successor or head of family and head of the corporation, with the board and investors approval. Amanda (who is back to being Alan's daughter, it was one last "screw you" from Brandon to try to get Alan and Alex at each others throats) gets pissed and comes back to stake her claim and be a thorn in everyone's side. Meanwhile Liv is suddenly REALLY interested in Phillip as he will have a longer self life then Alan. Things unfold much as they did with Amanda coming back to thwart Liv as Alex did..and when the truth comes out Alan really does have a heart attack and kicks (for real, for good, no fake outs, no returns, he's dead..dead.) and then AM comes back (as Taggert originally planned before Weston came to stink up the place.) to make his claim also. Phillip' guilt over Alan's death and having no final reconciliation ( On his death bed Alan could say, "I am proud of you son, you have finally become a real Spaulding," right before he kicks. ) I also agree that Phillip was not always likable, which really I give GA credit for being brave enough to make him that way, which is exactly how Phillip should be.   Ed and Chelle were there, but she ran off the plane to chase J...(I kid you not, that is why we started calling her Slutchelle) and Ed ran after her. The reason they, and no one else was at the wedding was obviously to save money, so it would have made more sense to have it on an existing set then that dumb Universal Studios thing.
