IMO, SC was too identified with being a blind farm woman on Y&R to be effective as Annie aka Terri.

If you were to recast Harley in 2008, would you bring back Hayley (ex-Courtney, ATWT) or go completely fresh. For old times sake, I would bring on Lucy to replace Harley. I would recast tho. Maybe Erin Hershey (port charles)? Jessica Morris (oltl)?

Ironically, when SC came back as the real Terri.. it was the first time that she fully connected on GL and there were fans back in the day that wondered why they didn't just keep the real Terri on the show instead of quickly writing her out and focusing on just Annie Dutton.

The other issue with SC playing Annie was that she played Annie as being controlled and calm in all of her actions/interactions, which was the direct opposite of how Annie was written/portrayed previously. Not to mention, she was replacing Cynthia Watros... who made Annie into quite a memorable and fascinating character to watch.. so anyone coming in to play the character had an uphill battle.

The one thing in SC's favor was that she actually had chemistry with RR, which viewers back in 1998/1999 took note of.. and that was what made viewers theorize that she would turn out to be Annie... even after the initial writing had her painted as someone interested in Frank.

During this period, the show was focused more on plot without really examining long term effects... hence why any Holly story thread that popped up after the Nursey Rhyme story ended got dropped pretty quickly (her growing bond with Annie, Fletcher coming back, Sam the con artist).

So it wasn't a surprise that once the initial Annie coming back story played out, the show didn't really know how to use the character... although the show did manage to write SC's Annie in scenes with Lizzie and showing her maternal side.. but it was too little, too late.

I read somewhere that it was between Signy Coleman and Teresa Blake (Gloria Marsh AMC) for the role. In an interview with the Locher Room, Signy's ex-husband (Vincent Irizarry) claims he pulled some string for Signy to get the part. Because he wanted his daughter on the East Coast, and that would happen if Signy got a role of a NY Soap.

I don't remember much of the particulars about HER interview with the Locher Room, but I do remember getting the impression that she had been very, very unhappy working on GL. She seemed almost...mad.

Yes, and VI did say that, which was great for the convenience of his family, but not so great for casting a part on a show. I only vaguely remember Teresa Blake on AMC, but from what I DO remember, she was a little over-the-top for my taste. Though maybe she would have reigned it in a little to play Annie.

I liked Teresa a lot on AMC, and she had played Gloria as a bad girl and later as a nut so I can see why she almost got the part. I do think she would have been a very bad fit for the whole cop story.

SIgny was good at those harder elements, and may have been fine with the softer elements too if given a chance, but it was Cynthia Watros who made Annie such a spark for fans and critics, not the character. They should have waited much longer, or never brought her back.

I think I preferred Sonia Satra (for my criticisms) over either of them - Hershey in particular annoyed me when they tried to make her the saint of PC.

I'm not sure who I would have chosen as a recast. Maybe Marie Wilson as Harley or Lucy. She was being written out of ATWT around then wasn't she?

What actress was the fan favorite for Susan/Daisy?

Also - Harley gave birth in SUNGLASSES, at night??

Brittany was probably more popular in the role. It's not that Bonnie Dennison was bad, I remember the mags thinking she was good. I didn't like the stories for Daisy's "later" teen years (lol) a crush on Gus, getting pregnant by this really skeevy guy. And she was stuck in Cooperville. I don't recall her interacting much (if at all) with the Lewises, until after Beth Ehlers left. And by then it was so pronounced, I found myself asking why Daisy was calling Bill "uncle".

I forget exactly when Meg went crazy....the end of '08? early '09? I think it was '09. I don't think Holden was back from the dead long before Brad died, for some reason.

He became almost childlike at times.

They did not have a real direction for Quint after the end of his Silas Crocker mystery and he admitted he was in love with Nola played out. The Rebecca story was dumb. There was a point after Henry's heart attack that he and Vanessa started to bond, but it really didn't go anywhere.

Thanks. That sounds right.

That was a major problem for soaps that introduced these kinds of non-soap-like characters. What do you do with them once their initial story runs out? One day they wake up and they're living in some podunk town with nothing to do because they've settled down and married and maybe had a baby and can't go on adventures anymore.

GH sort of solved that by making their adventure characters cops. But I can't see Quint as a cop, and anyway GL had more than enough by the 90s.

Didn't they make him a teacher for a while? But for some reason teachers never work on soap operas, unless you set the whole soap in a school, Degrassi-style.

I suppose they could have involved him in business through Henry and Vanessa. He was a Spaulding stockholder but then he got rid of his stock, IIRC.

Yeah, the minute he and Nola married, the clock was ticking on his character.

I hate to say this, but they probably should have killed Quint off soon after he and Nola married. That would have freed Nola and opened up many new storyline possibilities for her. Then the show would not have lost Lisa Brown.

But who knows if Kobe & Co. were interested in retaining her?

They made him a professor, and he was also a scientist for a while, I think. Given that they were still doing adventure stories on GL during his run they should have just had him in those.

He was tangentially involved in the Dreaming Death story. And they had him and Nola involved with that genius kid for a while.

Both very blah stories.

I know the Quola fans seemed to consider the stories with the kid their worst, which I can't argue with based on the clips.

They should have had him in the whole cottage story - maybe had Susan Piper as some roguish woman from his past and she threatens him and his family if he reveals their secrets. They could have had him injured in the same explosion that killed Hillary.

That would have been an interesting way to keep Signy - have her play the real Terri. I thought Signy had the best chemistry with Ben (Hunt B), which was very early into her run. They dropped the storyline with Sean, who had that quick backstory with his wife and Ben, which Terri was investigating, but it really went nowhere fast.

Now that would have been interesting! I loved Teresa on AMC (Gloria ended up being a great character). She had good chemistry with Grant A. when they were on together.

Thanks all for your thoughts on Susan/Daisy! )

It was hard for them to even work Annabelle in as a teacher. The Four Musketeers attended college for about a semester (aside from Rick's "accelerated" doctor course) and I think the next teens that went to college for any amount of time were AM/Harley/Dinah/Cam.

Alex forced Henry and Quint to sell their holdings in Spaulding, claiming that the SEC was going to investigate Vanessa's kickbacks from the Jocelyn Electronics deal. But Quint was never interested in the running of Spaulding--Henry had offered to mentor him (which upset Vanessa on multiple levels) but he chose to continue his archelogy work. He was briefly a professor--Nola had a jealous snit and her "help" in the classroom was a series of calamities.

I really don't think Kobe was interested in Nola and Quint. I don't think she was really interested in any of the Reardons, to be honest. She killed Jim's girlfriend, the haunting of Tony and Annabelle's cottage is lame, and Maureen was the eternal big ol' wet blanket.
