I’m up to May 24, 1999.

*So much good stuff happening with a few cameos! May sweeps was good this year.

The contacts that Harley gave Drew lead nowhere, so Drew tells Selena she should continue her search for her daughter, which Selena says no to. She tells Drew she isn’t interested in explaining herself to her daughter and her life is now happy and she doesn’t want to disrupt that, but Drew still doesn’t understand her change of mind.

Abby is struggling over the decision of getting cochlear implants, which starts to drive a wedge between her and Rick. She meets with a deaf person who is against it, saying deaf people can be whole people without help. Rick confides in Phillip about it all, and he accuses Rick of being selfish because he wants Abby to hear, but Rick tells him the story about falling in love with Abby when he met her over Halloween in the hospital (such a sweet memory there). He starts to cry and says he wishes he could experience concerts and waterfalls with his wife so she can hear what he hears.

Ben goes to Blake’s house and she is adamant they are never getting back together. Ross and India plan their next date and then Ross heads over to Blake’s to meet about their plan to help Holly. He arrives and sees Ben there, but Blake is clear she’s done with Ben, and Ben is annoyed that Ross/Blake are meeting up and leaves. He finds India and she tells Ben that she and Ross are doing really well together, but Ben tells her that Ross and Blake are together right now (just to irk her).

Michelle and Bill lament together over their Santos relationships and Michelle voices her theory that Carmen set up the shoot-out. Bill thinks there is no way Carmen would have done that because Pilar could have been killed. Pilar is now concerned for her mom, so she wants to stay and help her, and she also pushes Bill away and decides not to go to Josh/Reva’s wedding as his date.

Reva is getting ready for her big wedding day and she and Cassie talk about how Cassie will get to meet more of the family (Hawk, Dylan, etc). Reva says she’s a little anxious about Susan and Dylan meeting (he’s her bio dad). We then see Susan leave the house and run right into Dylan (5/19)! It’s good to see Dylan back, and he realizes that the girl is Daisy and it’s a nice little moment. Harley and Phillip walk up just as Susan asks how Dylan is related to the family, and Harley introduces him as her father, which shocks Susan. I wish Beth Ehlers was here for this big reveal, but oh well. Dylan tells a crying Susan that his biggest regret in life is not being there when she was born. He tells her about living in Minnesota with Bridget and Peter and working at the school for the blind. Susan leaves and tells Jim that she met her ‘real dad’, without understanding how hurtful that sounds. Reva tells her that Jim is her real dad, and Jim/Dylan finally meet. Dylan thanks him for raising an amazing girl and everyone is finally happy.

The big outdoor wedding day has arrived (5/20) and Rusty shows up to support Josh, along with Billy, Bill and Dylan. As Reva is getting ready with Cassie and Marah, she gets a letter from Roxie, which says she’s so happy for them, she’s sorry she can’t be at the wedding, but she’s thinking of them. Hawk then shows up and surprises Reva and she cries happy tears. Hawk then welcomes Cassie to the family and says he doesn’t hold anything against her. Reva then talks to HB and Sarah’s pictures privately, which were sweet moments.

Buzz is back from London with all his money and bought a new suit for the wedding. He also surprised Selena with a new dress and they go to the wedding happy together, but Selena is still nervous about Drew and her meddling about her daughter.

Alan and Annie are finally back and we see them sitting far apart from each other at the long breakfast table, barely talking and it’s clear Annie is bored. Jim arrives to pick up Beth as his wedding date, with Vicky tagging along. Annie gets upset with Alan for not offering her coffee like he does Jim, and as they’re leaving, she makes awkward comments about not being able to go to the wedding. Annie then gets upset that so many people live at the house like it’s a train station. She then pressures Alan on when he’s going to marry her so she isn’t alone. He presents a ring box, which she gets excited over, but when she opens it, there’s a key inside. Alan says he’s giving her what she wished for - to be out of the crowded mansion and into an apartment all to herself. She’s pissed and asks how he could kick her out on the day of Reva/Josh’s wedding. As he leaves to get ready to visit the apartment, she secretly leaves the mansion with a plan. He comes back to the room, sees the key on the table and yells out her name, realizing she left.

Back at the wedding, Abby and Rick are discussing her potential procedure and she’s still on the fence, but Rick is now adamant that she has it done. Dylan tells Harley and Phillip that he thinks Max might be too old for Susan. Michelle and Bill lament together over their issues with Danny and Pilar. Buzz and Selena arrive and say hi to Frank, with Buzz asking where Eleni is and Frank saying he doesn’t want to discuss it right now (yikes). Drew is in a sour mood because she doesn’t understand how Selena can give up her search for her daughter, and Jesse is trying to calm her down. She tells him to find them seats and she’ll be right back, and we later see her back at Selena’s place (still living at the Bauer’s) snooping around. She finds Selena’s old book of ‘John’s’, remembering she was a hooker back in the day and wonders why she would keep it. Michelle then walks in and interrupts her. Michelle says she’s forgiven her for sleeping with Danny and she also tells her how Danny and Pilar are back with Carmen at the Santos house because of the shoot-out. They bond a bit and reaffirm their friendship. Michelle leaves and Drew then finds the box of information that Selena was hiding that confirms their relationship.

As Reva is preparing to walk down the aisle, in walks Annie! Reva begs her not to ruin her wedding day, and Cassie and Hawk threaten to remove her. We see Josh and the guests wondering what’s taking so long. Annie then says she wouldn’t miss this for the world and reaches into her purse. We then see the wedding guests as a gunshot goes off, startling everyone! Come to find out, Annie just popped open a champagne bottle instead and Cassie tries to get Josh and the guests to calm down. Annie then tells Reva her wedding gift to her is giving up, and she will no longer meddle in their lives. Alan then shows up and drags her away. Hawk then walks Reva down the aisle and the wedding starts. Billy, Cassie, Matt, Abby, Buzz, Dylan, Shayne/Marah, and Susan all give vows to Josh/Reva, which was different but sweet. Reva and Josh then say their sweet vows to each other. They’re pronounced man and wife (5/21), and as everyone is celebrating, Reva sees a vision of her mom Sarah who tells her she’s so happy for them.

Pilar eventually shows up to the wedding reception, which makes Bill happy, and she apologizes to Vanessa for her first impression, which Vanessa excuses. She then asks what her last name is and Vanessa is visibly upset when Pilar says Santos. Vanessa later tells Bill she’s not comfortable with him being associated with a dangerous family, and Pilar later tells Bill she noticed the fear in Vanessa’s eyes. Abby tells Rick she now wants to go through with the procedure, which makes him happy. Billy/David/Vicky reminisce about David’s arrival to SF back during Hamp and Gilly’s wedding, which was apparently dramatic. Dylan then sings a song as a surprise to Reva, which was pretty cringe I hate to say, but he tells Reva he wrote it with inspiration from his love of Bridget, which I liked. Susan finds a way to bump into Max, who tells her she’s beautiful and asks to dance. They stiffly dance while everyone else is frozen in time (interesting), but we then see it’s all a dream by Susan. Max then actually runs into Susan and says the music sucks. Ross and Blake run into each other and kindly start dancing, but Blake allows India to take over when she walks up. Before Reva and Josh can sneak away, Cassie makes her throw her bouquet, which Beth ultimately catches and Jim notices. Dylan pulls Susan aside and says he’ll have to go back home soon, but would love to have her visit in the summer, which she agrees to, and he leaves her with a box of pictures. Reva and Josh later end their wedding night with a very romantic love scene.

Earlier during the vows, Jesse pulls Selena/Buzz aside and tells them Drew is gone, which freaks Selena out because she knows she’s out there snooping. Selena leaves for her place and finds a crying, angry Drew looking through the box and Drew screams to her that she’s the dirty little secret she’s been hiding; she’s her daughter (finally!). Drew cries about how she wasn’t wanted yet again, and how everyone lies to her, but Selena said she wanted to protect her. She tells Drew she wanted to give her a nice story to feel good about. These ladies are really doing a great job with this reveal. Tammy Blanchard (Drew) has come a LONG way for me. As Selena keeps pleading with Drew, Jesse and Buzz arrive and Drew cries to Jesse that Selena lied and Jesse says he knows, which shocks Drew. She realizes Buzz knew too and she’s the only one in the dark and screams to Jesse not to touch her. She then breaks down realizing that Max isn’t her brother, but then says there is no way she will tell him the truth since he’s doing so well and this would tear him apart. Buzz points out that she’s doing exactly what Selena did with her, but Drew says as far as she’s concerned, this night never happened and she’s not Selena’s daughter. She storms out, with Jesse running after her, leaving Selena to break down into Buzz’s arms.

A--it's nice to hear a reference to Hamp.

B--Jim and Dylan had met. When Dylan came to town and found out Harley had given birth, he roped his girlfriend Sam into babysitting for Susan/Daisy so they could spend time with the little girl. The Lemays threw a fit when they found out. A-M kidnapped Susan/Daisy hoping run away with her and Harley, and then Dylan/Sam went on the run to avoid the police, who thought Dylan had done it. It was a major story.

Thanks for linking these! Interesting reads. I hope I'm not crucified by saying this, but she kind of seems like a... well, a lot to deal with haha. I at least wish she had more respect for GL or enjoyed working there. I know she didn't like the grueling work schedule, but it would have been nice to have her back at least as a cameo somehow for the fans, but she clearly wasn't interested.

Yep, he was. Josh/Annie got married in Dec 1995 and Billy came back briefly in Sept 1996 and then again in Jan 1997 after being released. Reading my recaps of Dec 1995 - gosh that was such good soap opera for me! Josh/Annie are married in a snowstorm, Alex realizes Reva is alive and rushes to the wedding and announces it to everyone, showing the CCTV footage of Reva/Buzz dancing at the diner... then Josh leaves his wedding and comes face to face with Reva on Alan's plane... all while Marian attacks Susan at the boarding house in the shower, Psycho-style. What a time to be alive! Haha.

Bev seems to be the type that didn't suffer fools. I'm surprised she even gave SOD the interview. By this time, she had earned the right to not sugar coat anything. She respected people as much as they respected her, and she'd felt disrespected by Phelps. There's an interview of her from Canadian TV on utube that's very interesting. (AW was huge in Canada, and this was around the time Texas! started or just after she left...I forget.)

I loved the Hamp reference too ) And I had no idea Jim was actually on GL back in the day, I just assumed the Lemays were created when Susan/Jim came to town in 98/99. That's cool!

Ahh that makes sense. I get the respect thing.

Based on the interview itself, I'm surprised she even bothered giving it too haha.

I think the Lorelei book kicked off P&G's brief foray into tie-in books.

They did other tie-in books during the 1980s, but they novelize storylines that go back to the 1960s. You can find them on eBay or Amazon, but they're rare so they're not cheap.

I think it's always been known she was a bit of a diva. Or maybe that's unfair. She was very big on professional behavior.

I just remembered a story Kate Mulgrew told about Michael Zaslow during an interview when they were doing a play together. She said he would make funny faces whenever he had to kiss her and try to crack her up. That's probably the kind of thing Bev didn't like. Some actors like to make work fun, and others are like, "Hit your mark, say your lines, and get the hell out of here." I think she was the latter. Probably that's why she and Chris Bernau got along. He was the same. Zimmer alluded to that in her memoir--she's one of the actors who likes to have fun on set.

The thing she said about never watching GL...some actors refuse to watch themselves. So that might be why she didn't watch the show. And just because you act on a show doesn't necessarily mean you are a fan.

The Lemays are recurring, and I can't even tell you the wife's name. I think they even changed the husband's name to Jim when they brought him to town in '99.

Oops, my bad. I knew that.

I believe Jerry tells a story about Zas mooning the cast during one of the courtroom scenes. It sounds funny, but I can imagine that kind of attitude wouldn't endear anyone to her.

Yeah, just ask Victoria Wyndham, lol.

Beverlee McKinsey was an Okie; and Okies, for the most part, are straight shooters. Whatever our feelings are about anything, we'll let you know, and in no uncertain terms either.
