I wish it (the conversations) would happen for often than just once in a while. I think the last good conversation (Billy/Mac, Jack/Nick, Sharon/Phyllis) was Amanda Beall's episode on April 7th.

Yes, that was an okay episode. I always remember those just because they're like that. A big thing happens and then the episode next is the exact same night, possibly after half the town is off to sleep, and we have these interesting conversations going on.

:o:o:o It's been that long??? :o:o:o:o

Like I said, only one episode like that every two months. They should at least have one a week, if possible.

It's more than "not shining" at B&B. It is EYE-ROLLINGLY BAD. The WORST dialogue. His days are sometimes the STINKIEST.

I cannot imagine this, even though my only experience with him is B&B. I feel, if he had it, he must have lost it. MIND-NUMBINGLY AWFUL.

I can pick Mulcahey/Smith scripts out by a mile...they are just FLORID. Suddenly, there are these soliloquys...

Please, NO.

B&B is not a good place to measure one's talent, it seems like the type of show that pollutes good writers.

You need to see some of his work on SB, GL, and GH. Particularly GL, where I first fell in love with his work. I'm telling you, don't use B&B as a litmus test.

I don't need to quote that Nancy Curlee interview again as to what she said about Patrick...

And Alden is the one editing those scripts at B&B, so that also speaks to the woman's ear for good dialogue and her editing skills...

I so co-sign this! So!

He is awwwful!

But, he didn't use to be, even on B&B.... :( I could tell which script was his even from the first scene.

And then the train platform episode or whatever it was happened a few months ago.

Thank you. 1-2 a week, just to help things slow down a little and be more balanced.

Or, even better, make all the episodes a mixture. Some plot, some conversations, and we're all happy!

Listen, Y&R is probably by far the most watchable soap on the air, IMO, and there's a lot that they're doing right. But there's still a lot of major issues to work out that MAB and team just can't handle. If Y&R in its current state (although very passable) should be used to judge all of daytime, something is very wrong with this whole genre. The whole genre is just so bad that it makes Y&R look better and more creative than it actually is.

I like this post! I am respectfully curious about what brings you to the conclusion that MAB and her team aren't capable? I mean do you have some sort of insider-knowledge about their drafts/outlines/bibles or is this an observation as a Y&R watcher? Every HW has a turkey now and again, but for a while everyone was glowing about what MAB did - how she saved the show. Do her mistakes - and there certainly are many - negate her successes - also which there are many? And should those mistakes be grounds for immediate termination?

RE: Mulcahey... Once you get this bad, in my eyes you can hardly recover...

A total off-topic: people are not only talking about how to re-tool the soaps, they are talking how to "re-tool" the Pope!

Well, from what I hear, ever since Alden joined B&B, she's been very hands on with those scripts, sometimes adding and deleting stuff just because she has the authority..

But also, many didn't like his B&B scripts even before Alden arrived.

B&B generally lacks overall depth anyway, no matter the SW. I think Patrick works better on a more serious soap, though SB was quite wacky as well.

Again, I'm really surprised she has this much authority. I thought his scripts were the best... his dialogue really managed to save a lot of the stories, at least in the particular episode he was in. I would so love to see what he could do script and breakdown wise on Y&R!

True that... I think he kinda sold his soul, if you know what I mean....

F.uck the pope!!!

I think you all need to get familiar with this dropped scene from the horrendous Latham era.

This makes me a little hopeful. ;)

Have in mind that Nancy Curlee certainly wasn't going to say: Oh, Mulcahey?! Mulcahey sucked! I hated that guy!

But they were close and Patrick helped a lot with those stories, and she gave him credit for them.

Guza also credits Patrick's help with many of his successful stories during his first and second stints at GH.

Do you people have anyone outside daytime to suggest? And no, I don't mean primetime, I mean playwrights, novelists?
