Yes, that was an okay episode. I always remember those just because they're like that. A big thing happens and then the episode next is the exact same night, possibly after half the town is off to sleep, and we have these interesting conversations going on.

Like I said, only one episode like that every two months. They should at least have one a week, if possible.

B&B is not a good place to measure one's talent, it seems like the type of show that pollutes good writers.

You need to see some of his work on SB, GL, and GH. Particularly GL, where I first fell in love with his work. I'm telling you, don't use B&B as a litmus test.

I don't need to quote that Nancy Curlee interview again as to what she said about Patrick...

And Alden is the one editing those scripts at B&B, so that also speaks to the woman's ear for good dialogue and her editing skills...

I like this post! I am respectfully curious about what brings you to the conclusion that MAB and her team aren't capable? I mean do you have some sort of insider-knowledge about their drafts/outlines/bibles or is this an observation as a Y&R watcher? Every HW has a turkey now and again, but for a while everyone was glowing about what MAB did - how she saved the show. Do her mistakes - and there certainly are many - negate her successes - also which there are many? And should those mistakes be grounds for immediate termination?

Well, from what I hear, ever since Alden joined B&B, she's been very hands on with those scripts, sometimes adding and deleting stuff just because she has the authority..

But also, many didn't like his B&B scripts even before Alden arrived.

B&B generally lacks overall depth anyway, no matter the SW. I think Patrick works better on a more serious soap, though SB was quite wacky as well.

Again, I'm really surprised she has this much authority. I thought his scripts were the best... his dialogue really managed to save a lot of the stories, at least in the particular episode he was in. I would so love to see what he could do script and breakdown wise on Y&R!

    • Hmmm... I don't know if I agree the show has been doing this with Sonny since the mid-90's.  He was more anti-hero than hero back then and had a whole lot of baggage.  He also had some very decent qualities. This was long before his bipolar diagnosis.   I have said this so many times on this board, but the true ending for the Sonny character was leaving Brenda at the altar.  Not because I wanted that or anything.  I was upset for days and might still be 25 years later.  It was just Sonny finally doing something very unselfish and leaving Brenda for her own good and well-being.  The family and life he craved he realized he couldn't achieve because of the business.  That to me was the end of Sonny's arc. It's unfortunate MB didn't make it primetime and came back a year later lol.
    • I shouldn't write like an authority, which I do too often. It's how I feel but I respect that others did appreciate the writing last year with Sonny.
    • What are the additional surprises that Leslie has up her sleeve?
    • And that's the power of William J. Bell and his co-executive producers. Truth be told, I know people have heralded the return of Edward J. Scott last year (and yes, his return helped tighten up the visual look of production under the present regime as senior producer); however, I always felt like David Shaughnessy's vision (especially as a director) was stronger for Y&R. His Y&R had a darker, richer look that I feel like Scott never had, especially in the high-definition era.
    • That would be key; I know they have a "Tribeca" set that's active at the moment, so they could easily use the exterior of that set and then create "indoor" sets on the next set budget. I think that'd be a key idea. I love the community lots we presently have, although there is always room for more.

Like, you cannot tell me that cannot be some kind of shopfront. Or even a salon front Serenity Beauty & Hair?
    • They really did; I know the transition wasn't as beautiful as many thought it should have been, but at least with Mulcahey at the helm, I felt like there was going to be resolve at some point... even if we didn't know what it was at the time. Seeing everyone turn against Sonny, except for Ava (with her mysteriously nefarious reasons), was beautiful to see. Plus, Mulcahey swiftly fixed Alexis' law license issue that had dragged on far too long. Again, was it perfect? No. But did I get a sense that Mulcahey, if given a true chance, could have done some effective changes? Yes. Very glad to know I am not alone in this, and yes, Harper's chemistry with Sawandi Wilson's Isaiah has been lovely. But it seems like every time there is a viable match, TPTB nix it before it can truly begin.
    • Reading all the theories here and on twitter.  Someone wondered if June is connected to Leslie? So now we have June possibly connected to Hayley, to Samantha&Tyrell, or to Leslie. I love that we don't know! To be honest, the first time she aired, I didn't think June was connected to any major character.  I thought she was simply a client who might prove to have an interesting backstory as part of the "have-nots".   But then June dropped the photograph, so that has to be an anvil or mean something.
    • Thanks for the factoid, that's so interesting! (The character, though, was not, LOL. Ridiculous storyline). You know what? Even though he was a core family member, I think you are right. I would much rather they had kept Alan Michael on the canvas to represent the second Spaulding generation. (Of course, they would have had to write some good stories for the character, which, who knows if they would/could have). Reva, yes, I agree. Her shelf life expired when she drove that car off the bridge. The ever increasing desperation to keep her character relevant after she came back was very difficult to watch.
    • I don't suppose you have that August 4, 1995 episode @soapfan770 has with Hope throwing Nikki out of The Newman Ranch?
    • I have taken extremely long breaks from the show because of Sonny and I didn’t watch in the 90’s so I didn’t realize this was a crutch the show used all the time. Hell even though Maurice hates it, it was the most I could tolerate Sonny because he was written as the ass.hole he actually is at his core. His meds working again don’t erase all the characters I’ve either liked or accepted that I had to watch he and Jason murder and somehow come out as the good guys.
