If Trump wins and he succeeds in implementing Project 2025, I don't stand a chance in hell in surviving his regime. I'm not only disabled but I also have some physical and mental health issues that makes fighting a fascist regime extremely unlikely. I hope that if possible I get the opportunity to flee this country to someplace better but I don't think that's possible, especially since there aren't a whole lot of countries that will allow in people with disabilities. I also have a lot of old and sick relatives in my family that I'm worried about potentially leaving behind, and that's the last thing I want to do. I may have to prepare myself for the possibility that I may be shipped off to a concentration camp along with hundreds of thousands of other people and I may die there.

Anyways, I wish Kamala Harris the absolute best of luck because she's going to need it especially since she's going to be facing a serious uphill battle for the next couple of months. I hope that I am actually wrong and she actually has what it takes to beat Trump because we need a miracle that will save our democracy from certain doom.

I can't fault for anyone feeling how they feel. As I said, while Bidenworld made some of their own real mistakes I think the way this whole process was handled in the public eye was shameful, disgraceful and unnecessary. The stories that have already come out are not great, what comes out later will be worse for people we previously admired. Even if someone can make an argument that Joe had to go, this didn't have to happen the way it did. But that's a whole other can of worms. I was thinking earlier about something else.

What most often gets lost is how impactful and transformative a president Joe Biden actually has been - it's come out in all the post-Sunday pre-eulogies of course, but even I, someone who kept fairly abreast of the administration's moves, found myself being reminded of some and saying 'oh yeah, what about that?'

The reality is Biden's record and achievements have been notoriously and shamefully underreported, by a press that not only disdained him personally, regularly joked among themselves about what percentage 'dead' he was at press pools, were bored by the Biden WH's lack of access and leaks, and missed the drama of the Trump years and the fun rough and tumble neo-Nazis who would call them and gossip all night. Most of them also just had no head for policy, or no interest in policy as set by Democrats vs. on Republican or right-wing think tank terms, which often bear out the conventional wisdom in Washington. If a Democrat did it they start tuning out. That's how you got all the headlines about the economy being bad despite it not being bad, followed by the endless vibes pieces - 'if the economy is good, why doesn't it FEEL like it?' The media was not interested in reporting on fiscally responsible Democrats because they've never been, because it doesn't fit their priors. And so then you end up with a segment of the public who in turn believes this falsehood. Among others.

We can attribute a great deal of the drag on Biden's approval numbers over the last four years - and the fact that too few of the general public know what he's done, what he did and what he could do - to a press that had zero interest in reporting on it. Because it wasn't fun, it wasn't access, it wasn't gossip or balls and strikes.

If the Democratic Party wants to learn to combat this they have to finally accept that the old way of handling media is over and that they have to make their case much more forcefully, and with more outlets and consistent efforts, rather than simply doing the work and then hoping the media will play fair with them. Too many in the party still think that the media are their friends who just need to listen and understand, and then they'll do the right thing. That's not how this works anymore. We have to work the refs much better than we do. The right wing has been doing it for over 50 years.

There's no doubt that the debate was an unforced error. If not for that night I think it's fair to say very little of this happens. But if the press had been forcefully made the case for Biden's record by the party (not just the WH, but so many fairweather folks in Congress who were out for themselves), and given no space not to report on it, the fundamental injury to Joe's numbers that got us to this moribund election cycle and created the preexisting paranoia from donors might not have existed. Too few people have to be educated in 2024 on what Joe has done, and that is a key reason he was weakened in the first place. The party has got to learn that the press isn't here to be fair.

Kamala is live (the USA Today feed sucks):

Joe is on speakerphone/Zoom as well with her.

That was a lovely ending: "God bless you and God bless the United States of America, and Joe Biden."

I've seen this type of comment several times on my feed. Are we really supposed to pretend that being Jewish isn't a potential problem? I don't think acknowledging reality makes us bigots. That's one area where the far right and far left come together. The demand that people deny facts and reality astounds me.

Or you could've given it to me!  Just sayin'!

But seriously.  Don't feel that all the money and time you've donated over the years has been for nothing.  I believe it has made a difference, even if it's a difference you can't see right off the bat.

At the end of the day, the rich donors who control all the political parties in this country are like any Goliath.  We just haven't found the right slingshot to slay them with yet.

Do you remember when Trump's advisors came up with a plan to tackle him if he tried to use the nuclear football? I just can't believe he's even on the ticket again after that came out.

Anyone who thinks they aren't going to be directly affected by having that man in office again is sorely mistaken. If he doesn't get us nuked, the environmental deregulation alone will speed up the climate crisis.

The second point I highlighted is so true. I get the frustration people feel right now. I have no compassion for anyone who votes for him, but many innocent people are trying to stand against him. They do not deserve to have this madman in charge again.

Of course, but you aren't a Jew hater. Antisemitism has been off the charts recently.

That goes along with the argument I've been making on X (with one of the stars of TV's "Becker," of all people, lol) regarding why I don't believe we are ready for a gay VP.

Theoretically, any potential running mate's faith (or sexual preference, or ethnicity, or gender affiliation, or...I could go on) shouldn't be an issue as to whether they could help Kamala Harris win the election or preside over the country.  All that should matter are their record and overall competency for the job.

However, there simply is no denying the fact that Donald Trump has emboldened a lot of folks to disparage and attack anyone who is not white, Christian, heterosexual or genetically male.  Even if you believe that someone like Josh Shapiro or Pete Buttigieg would be an ideal VP pick for Harris - and believe me, I think either would be fantastic! - you still have to know that supporting them comes with enormous risks, as well as the possibility now of losing out in the end to our most base fears and prejudices.  And if you don't think the fact that Josh Shapiro is Jewish, or that Pete Buttigieg is gay, wouldn't, at the very least, present more obstacles to Harris' campaign, then you simply don't see the America that I see or have seen since at least the Obama administration.

The fact is, we gave Barack Obama the chance, because we still felt the need back then to keep up the pretense of being an open-minded and forward-thinking nation.  Again, though, thanks to Trump, we no longer feel that need.  Now, we are content with presenting ourselves as exactly who and what we are.

There's a difference, at least for me. Buttigieg is a brilliant, incisive surrogate who does very, very well on TV. In a better world he would be an ideal running mate. But we all know you cannot run a Black woman and a gay man on the general ticket today. I wish we could but we can't. Believe me, if the day comes while I'm still alive and a gay man (or lesbian, or whatever other LGBT person) ends up winning as VP or POTUS I'll be crying my eyes out. That day is not today.

With Shapiro I think a lot of the general public just see a skilled young politician. The Jewish thing is still a real issue, but I feel it is more isolated to various very vocal segments than in the past. And let's be honest: The leftists who were going to hate him for being a Jew mostly aren't going to vote anyway. YMMV.

Oh, go on, which one?

    • I liked the food poisoning angle on Thursday because I said beforehand that I would be annoyed if Vanessa was not there at her BFF's party. And I loved they already planned ahead in the dialogue. lol.   But watching the scene (and a bit of a rewind), it hit me. Wait is she...??? Ooo gurrrl. lol.
    • I'm not at all surprised the 10 lowest-rated episodes are all from Season Seven. Moving The Golden Girls from 9 p.m. to 8 p.m. was foolish.
    • As the folklore goes, Love Boat episodes generally had one "heart" story, one "laughs" story, and one "tears" story. I guess Hotel just stuck with "heart" and "tears."
    • I thought food poisoning was an odd reason for Vanessa to miss the party.  That's why I appreciate reading everyone's comments and theories on this thread.  Oh!!  It hadn't occurred to me to speculate that she might be pregnant. I figured that she and Doug ate different things.  But pregnancy fits better.  I did think Shanice's dialogue delivery was slightly awkward (unusual for her)... but that would make sense if Shanice knew Vanessa had a pregnancy test but Vanessa said don't tell Doug.  I love all this theorizing/speculating, especially since we have no idea what will happen.
    • I want that as well, but given how much I've been playing catch-up during some personal/family drama, it's been background music with very little to hold my interest. Then I saw a spoiler and rolled my eyes.   Very. I guess JG is hitting another of his low points.
    • Well...unexpected wiggle room is still wiggle room.   I went back and finally rewatched Friday's episode (along with Thursday's). And God, how those episodes flowed. It did help that Zimmerman did the breakdowns for both so the plot threads were cohesive. I do wonder if she did it today as well. Martin and Tate also of course did good scripts. And I might have to take back my earlier comment about the crowd. While it was not like Nicole's Award Event where I felt there were more extras (and was in the minority on that), I felt this one did not have enough (also in the minority). But on a rewatch, I did like that Production actually did a fairly decent job of covering it up so kudos.    I also wanted to take the moment to say the majority of the week before last (and this past week) were full of cliffhangers. Perhaps not what is used to, but they were there. And I loved that since the majority of said cliffhangers were connected to Silk Press Sheila, it gave an intensity and build to the last week leading to this superb episode that gave us not only an old school soap reveal (complete with moments to let the scenes breathe, but annoyed in how other scenes which were also good did not compare...another sign of knowing when a reveal is great) but, THREE cliffhangers!!! Well-done, Cliffhanger Friday!!!   Ms. Mann and Ms. Michelle were clearly the stars. I've said it once someone mentioned it and I'll say it again...Ambyr just gives so much SMG's version of Kendall on AMC in Eva, and I love that. And that reveal on Silk Press Sheila...WOW. Great to have confirmation that BILL was the lawyer. Even better to see Silk Press interacting with all of the Duprees and not being a bit scared. And yes, I caught that she was preggers at the same time as Nicole. I also caught in the Martin vs Ted scene when he was talking about the timeline was another clue...since we discussed the timeline during Kat's birthday party episodes and how odd it was that Silk Press Sheila would celebrate Eva's birthday if the weeks were off. UNLESS...they're not. I just feel they would not be mentioning it unless SilkPress has a 90s DAYS Sami Trump card incoming. And 90s DAYS Sami Brady ALWAYS had a trump card. So...looking forward to today. lol.    I'm also going to be in the minority about the next thought. I thought Maurice did a good job as Ted in the reveal scenes. Though I do agree that compared to everyone else...even his FOINE doctor friend...he was the weak leak. DD was giving and she was in the background reacting. The Avengers...I mean...the Duprees closing ranks...was great and also showed how in sync the actors were. Naomi being sure Chels was not filming THIS time was a hoot. And I lived for Kat's shade among the mess. I'm happy that we are here at this reveal with OriginalTed since the rumor (marking preemptions) we are a little under two weeks to go before he's out.   I liked the layers. One thing that I like about this show. We usually mention something here and then the show writers have it mentioned either in episode or immediately in the next. The SilkPress/Eva picture last week. Where is Naomi/Vanessa this week of episodes. And they got to it. Well-played. I also like the reveal that Martin knew SilkPress as a kid, calling back to that weird scene with the brownie. I mentioned the Bill-as-Lawyer scene, calling back to Bill/Vernon's first alone scene. The reveal of all of SilkPress's many names. The fact that Andre and Dani continue to grow closer and closer and had a near-miss...something this show knows how to do extremely well for me. Their near-misses built up the drama and story, and I see how much I'm invested when we have them. The whole Silk Press Sheila story being the best example.    I see from a few of the comments some of you all are already thinking about those consequences toward Bill that I was thinking about on Friday.

And while I did not like the Vanessa/Doug scenes at first view...though I love they followed up on her food poisoning phone call on Thursday...I liked it on second watch. Partly because it gave another hint that Doug has some idea of what Vanessa is doing...if not who.  Partly because I had assumed that Doug got poisoned, too. Seeing it was just Vanessa confused me since I thought they were out at dinner pre-party. That said...I go back to my original thought in that moment. Has Vanessa being having all this sex without protection and we are going to get a WTD with Doug, Diego, and whoever else she has been with? Uh oh?    And I continue to also love how flashbacks are used. Rare do they show a flashback to a prior episode unless it's important so those are well done. And then you have the flashbacks like the one with Bill/Dani that informs the audience. And I loved that green dress. But tbf, I loved the feistiness of her red dress. Andre was not alone in taking her in.    And someone mentioned it the other day and I wanted to echo it. One thing I like about this show that I don't see much in the other soaps to this degree has been that several of the characters have their own personal style for sure, but the men's style really have stood out for me since its started. Ted being a clear example with his turtlenecks and general...for lack of better word at the moment manly...to him. I like that about the men where other men styles on other soaps just blend together.    Looking forward to Kat v Eva, Anita vs Silk Press Sheila, and Nicole vs Ted today.    Did I mention I was happy Clifton was back?
    • I’ll take a pass on the lecture, because you've overestimated my concern with your feedback, but thanks for the enthusiasm. Your claims of not wanting to get into an argument over every post are unfortunately voided by your impulsive need to add into discussions that are none of your concern. Finally, you may wish to check the definition of coy, because you've used it incorrectly twice in reference to my writing.  I promise that I do not intend to be coy with you.  Or don't look it up and just continue to be incorrect; as usual.
    • I guess it's because the stories on "Hotel" tended to be very...melodramatic, lol?  I mean, it seems like every episode had long-lost lovers reuniting or people finding out someone they knew and/or loved was dying.  And then there was the time Anne Baxter was strung out on dope, lol. Brandon Stoddard must've envied what the other Brandon (Tartikoff) was doing at NBC.
    • Given some of the things that have been said I am going to quote the preface to an analysis I researched & posted about the desired demos when JFP was EP of AW. And, that is more than enough about that, from me.
    • The thing that I am stuck on is that the in studio scenes in Egypt started airing in mid-October. It seems very strange that they would have planned to have a couple of weeks of studio scenes airing before they started showing location footage. Normally even though some scenes in a remote-infused storyline are in studio, they would start airing a mixture of studio and location footage at the same time. I suspect they had put Arizona in their back pocket well before the Achille Lauro (hence Hawk arriving in September) and possibly moved up the Egypt in-studio action so that the remote Arizona piece unfolded during November. The Achille Lauro may have been the final straw but I would bet it was not the first time they considered the risk. I have found one somewhat contemporaneous reference published on October 19th but pinned to an October 7th* "diary entry" mentioning that the location shoot in Egypt had been changed to Arizona. "International terrorism has its effect on daytime drama, too. Another World producers had scheduled an elaborate and expensive location shoot in Egypt this fall, But with the serious military attacks and hijackings going on, they decided to play it safe. They are going to Arizona instead. The cast members involved were disappointed but understood the decision." *Undated, but specified as the Monday before Melody Thomas's wedding to Ed Scott. But of course it's possible that the first draft referred to Egypt and was revised after October 7th to mention the cancellation before it went to press. But even making the decision the week of October 7th seems tight to get the Egypt scenes to air on the 17th/18th. I would love to find something from a daily news cycle that would be clearer about the dates.
