LOL - I never noticed that before, but you're absolutely right about them using the same poses over and over again.

Alles was zählt has apparently reacted to its ratings crisis: Following the exit of Rosetta Pedone's character Viktoria König in early December, Christina Siemoneit's Sarah Wendt is also on her way out, which brings Sarah's and Marco's (Salvatore Greco) frontburner love story to an end. Siemoneit first aired in September 2011 and will last air in February 2013. Marco will be paired with resident villain Isabelle (Ania Niedieck) instead.

For the first time in the history of German soaps, a pregnant actress will be replaced by another actress during her maternity leave. In the past, characters played by pregnant actresses were simply written off the canvas or were pregnant on the show as well. Now Juliette Menke, who has appeared on AWZ since May 2007 in the role of Lena Bergmann von Altenburg Öztürk, will be replaced by Maria Kempken as of January 2013. It has been stated that Kempken will play the role for at least six months. If Menke will return at all is a different matter. (I have never liked the character of Lena and I don't understand why she has lasted so long while her sister Annette had to die. Instead they just "cloned" Annette by introducing the character of Bea and even making Bea Ingo's (Annette's ex-husband) new love interest.)

In addition, five new characters will be added during the next few weeks, the first one making his debut in tonight's episode: Volkan Isbert as Can Öztürk, Marian's nephew and Deniz's cousin. A teenage troublemaker, Can sets his sights on Zoé (Katharina Woschek), who initially gives him the cold shoulder.

Next year, the following characters will arrive: David Degen, a dance instructor; Bea's younger sister Julia, an aspiring dancer; Marian's yet unnamed mother, who writes relationship guidebooks; and Maximilian's 19-year old daughter Letizia from Argentina. The corresponding actors are still unknown.

Verbotene Liebe is also still in trouble ratings-wise. Early next year, ARD tests a different show, "Heiter bis tödlich", in VL's timeslot on three days (February 12th to 14th). "Heiter bis tödlich" is a criminal series with comedy influences which currently airs at 6.50 p.m. – right after "Verbotene Liebe". In January 2013, "Verbotene Liebe" celebrates its 18th birthday – will the show survive or will it find the same fate as "Marienhof" which was cancelled two years ago shortly after its 18th birthday?

What did you think of Sarah?

I'm surprised it took this long for an actress to be recast during a pregnancy. In the US it used to happen quite often.

Sarah was a bad-acted character so I'm glad she's out. She should take Marco with her, though. The actor is just as horrible.

Yesterday the new season of Ich bin ein Star – Holt mich hier raus! (I'm a Celebrity – Get Me Out of Here!) started. Among the contestants is Claudelle Deckert, who has portrayed Eva Wagner on "Unter uns" since 2001.

Thanks. I guess the Chrolli fans voted hard in the VL poll.

Not the same support for Deniz on AWZ though...

I never did watch AWZ too much but I thought Ingo was very likeable and cute.

I'm not Carl, but I can answer :D

Yes, Clarissa's on her way out again. Her return in the Mallorca storyline in 2011 was great, but once Jan and Julia had left in January 2012 and Clarissa had been relocated to Düsseldorf, they didn't know how to use her. Her last airdate is March 20th, 2013. According to an official statement, Isa Jank is just taking an extended break, but we all know what that means.

Remo Schulze who has played Clarissa's nephew Timo Mendes since 2011 is also on his way out. So are Krystian Martinek (Ludwig von Lahnstein) and Christoph Mary (Hagen von Lahnstein). Both apparently die in a plane crash.

VL still suffers from very poor ratings. We can be lucky if the show survives into 2014.

AWZ on the other hand has been retooled again with the introduction of the "Dance Academy", run by Jenny and Simone Steinkamp. Four new characters have arrived on the scene:

  • Andreas Hofer as David M. Degen, a dance instructor, who will be torn between Jenny and Simone
  • Jenny Bach as Julia Meyer, an aspiring dancer and Bea's younger sister
  • Jennifer Dessin-Brasching as Letizia Kaldenhoff, Julia's biggest rival in the academy and Maximilian's long-lost daughter from Argentina
  • Marc Schöttner as Lukas Levin, David's son, a dancer and a love interest for Julia and Letizia

The show has also featured a lot of nude scenes lately, most notably by Jörg Rohde (Ben Steinkamp) and Volkan Isbert (Can Öztürk).

Thanks Huntress. You know far more about this than I could, believe me.

Is Deniz in any story?

Edited by CarlD2

No, and I don't know what they're going to do with him since there's no viable love interest for him on the canvas.

Right now there are the following love stories:

Jenny/David/Simone

Isabelle/Marco

Ben/Bea/Ingo/Katja

Marian/Lena

Can/Zoé

Julia/Lukas/Letizia

Richard, Rüdiger, Maximilian and Deniz are currently single. Since Richard, Rüdiger and Maximilian are older and straight, Deniz will most likely have to wait until a new character is introduced. I just hope they don't do a Marian/Lena/Deniz triangle.

According to the latest spoilers, Deniz and Katja will have a fling even though Katja is hopelessly in love with Ingo.

They obviously don't have any ideas left for Deniz and Katja so they decided to pair them up. They have like zero chemistry.

Yeah, poor Ingo and Bea. Rüdiger's taking them, Isabelle and Marco hostage at the Steinkamp center. In the turn of events, Rüdiger finds out that Marco is not his, but his brother Richard's son. Rüdiger shoots Isabelle and Marco saves her life, which of course leads to them becoming attracted to one another. Bea and Ingo also grow closer. Rüdiger gets arrested by the police, but he can escape and swears revenge at Richard. He takes Richard hostage and wants to flee the country by assuming Richard's identity. While being locked up, Richard has a heart attack. Of course in the end the "bad" brother is put in jail for good – which is a pity because Rüdiger was a good foe for the Steinkamp family. He hasn't even lasted a full year on the show.

Looks like Katharina Woschek (Zoé) is also on her way out, so Zoé and Can will be history soon.

On "Unter uns", there is another recast as Laura Maria Heid will step into the contract role of Suji on April 25th, 2013. The distant Korean cousin of Eva (Claudelle Deckert) has been a resident of the apartment house since April 2012. Mine Voss, the first and current actress, has decided to leave the soap in order to focus on her studies.

    • I spent years hoping we would get an oral history like the OLTL book, but it’s too late now with so many having passed away.
    • It’s also strange that it was Monica! I just don’t think of her as the staring off into space type of woman! I watched a bunch of other clips and stuff from random 1978 and 1979 episodes. I’m so used to seeing movement from Monty’s era, especially the early part, that this really is a cool relic. Pretty soon you have scenes start at the new nurses station, the elevators opening and doctors walking to the desk to get their messages from Jessie or Bobbie. People often walk towards doors while taking coats on or off, many Webber house scenes start or end with someone walking up the stairs. This episode is even more static than some of the way earlier ones I have seen, where you would have Steve or Jessie at least going from the old school nurses desk to the medicine room, Steve’s office, etc. That bland dialogue is very much like what they have now. The show picks up a lot of personality. Knowing what we know about David Hamilton and how that really started to get the ball rolling as far as viewers you really see just how vital Lesley and especially Laura were to get things moving for them. They focused on the right characters to get fast results. The show now could learn a thing or two from this.
    • It won't allow me to watch it via the link; I am only able to watch it with the app.
    • Just finished the Goldfinch. Read it in 5-6 days... and it's a huuuuge book. Well... I would rate the first 500 pages a solid 10 out of 10... but then the next 300 were kind of a letdown... so the overall impression is something like - 7/10. It's just very hard to give something a full 10 after reading A little life.  Still... loved it immensely and would probably re-read it in the future. There is a movie adaptation... starring Nicole Kidman... that I haven't seen.
    • I realize I harp on this, but I think he spending is relevant.  She's not just buying new wigs. She's building a mansion, she's funding a sports complex, she's paying for operations for people she doesn't know, she's caring for Peaches, she's buying apartments. We saw ?her get ONE check for ONE million dollars. That's it. I may be wrong, but I thought they said she'd get a payment every 6 months. Regardless, she could not rule the roost on $1M, and the show is not doing a good job there. Pretending that doesn't matter? I can't do that.  All they had to do was add a couple lines about payouts and payments.  In other news, I would love to know just how much Anita was putting into that trust as well as what investment got her what has to be an incredible return.

    • It reminded me of what the Pollocks got away with all the time on THE DOCTORS: long ass flashbacks that don't really add anything to the scene except time.  Because, if you remove the flashback, what's left?  Monica finishes packing Alan's suitcase.  The end. Oh, well.  At least I got to see a young Patricia Elliott (ex-Renee, OLTL) in that Aim toothpaste commercial (not to mention, a shirtless James O'Sullivan (ex-Jeff, AMC; ex-Pete, OLTL; ex-Jerry, SOMERSET) in the commercial for One-a-Day vitamins, lol).
    • Well, I can't help but think it would've been written different with CB still there
    • I could've sworn FV let other people direct either here or at OLTL. I may be wrong. IIRC Kimberly is now very active directing multi-cam/sitcom work. I'd forgotten she even did Netflix's One Day at a Time.
    • IIRC MVJ said the million was just the first piece of what Leslie got or was already owed, something they did make explicit in dialogue but not too explicit. Still, I am past worrying about it. I do think they want 30-yo elder millennial Peaches in her Sophia Petrillo wig to be a point of pathos for Leslie. In theory I am fine with that, and don't dislike Peaches despite the jarring physical disconnect and need for a recast lol. But I do think they do a lot of B&B-style whizzing from Point A to Point C with Leslie on this kind of stuff - in one scene she is raising hell, in the next she is weeping over Peaches. There's very little transition to that sometimes that allows for the nuance, and that can be done much better and they can go much deeper with Leslie (and most characters). The newer/younger audience for the show may have less issue with this kind of quick change than we do.
