Members Loretta3938
My SoapNet died when Brian Frons took charge of the network. It's been going downhill ever since.
Members SalemPlace
I would be happiest if they could just find a way to add Santa Barbara to the programming. Most everyone can agree that it was one of the best soaps. We all miss it so I don't see how the ratings wouldn't be good enough to support it. The royalties can't be that bad..... Members Loretta3938
I heard a rumor that Santa Barbara had some kind of clause in their contract that makes it impossible for S/N to get it for re-airing. Maybe someone who understands that more than I do can explain it.
Members MarkH
The story is that JFP filled it with popular music. So, negotiating the music rights for each episode would be far too time consuming, and the royalties too expensive. That's apparently what put the kibosh on Soapnet showing the full run of Ryan's Hope. What it translates to is that Soapnet is unwilling to spend the money. Just like they won't close-caption Ryan's Hope. Zero investment in legacy properties.
Members JackPeyton
^A lot of t shows are not out on dvd or in reruns because of songs sued on the show. However, shows like Dawsons Creek and Roswell just change out the song.
Members All My Shadows
I thought that shows could use their original music in reruns. DC definitely does. The theme song and all background music is the same as when it first aired on the WB. DVDs are a completely different story.
Members JackPeyton
^Original music yes, however DC was a show that used a lot of hot music at the time. and some songs are taken out depending on what network is rerunning it.
Members All My Shadows
Right. TBS used the stuff from the network airings, though, right? I don't recall any major changes (meaning songs used in very poignant moments from the show), so I'm guessing the songs were kept in.
Members JackPeyton
^TBS aired the exact same as thewb. i think its the-n, idk, some network that reruns it or did took out the scenes where joey sings or certin huge hit songs they used. Members EricMontreal22
Right but I doubt that played a prob with Ryan's Hope--didn't they just not wanna show the less popular eras? Surely they could change a few montages if they had to...
