LMAO! When I saw Patrick Mulcahey's name, I laughed, because I know he'd never last long at a show like DAYS. He left Santa Barbara, GL, and GH because of outside interference, things would be much worse at DAYS for someone like him.

1) Crazy owner with no sense of patience and no storytelling skills

2) Show with sinking ratings

3) Network that doesn't want you.

4) Rapid fanbases that will not allow you to break up any couples

5) No writing team allowed

6) Split audience who equally want reality and camp, and will fight tooth and nail for it

I have something else to add. DAYS is one of those soaps that can't be written 100% in a traditional soap opera fashion (soaps like AMC, OLTL, Y&R, GL and ATWT are). JER's DAYS totally altered the creative structure of that show and a lot of the younger fans DAYS has aren't accustomed to a more traditional soap opera approach. Even before JER, DAYS wasn't a typical traditional soap opera. Ever since the 80's, DAYS has had a distinctive campy nature where one had to suspend his/her disbelief to watch, more so than other soaps. We saw Sally Sussman Morina (well as well as she could) and even Hogan try to move DAYS back to a more traditional feel, and it didn't work, at least not with many vocal fans and with the ratings.

I think DAYS is quite possilby the hardest soap to write for.

I don't think it's as severe as you say. I think at the end, Hogan won a lot of fans over! I thought his last eight months were as close to true "Days of Our Lives" as we have seen since 1993. I'm still pissed he's gone. Sussman just stunk st Days, and anyone following JERs first run would. The show was at a point were no one else could write for it. While I agree with you summation that Reilly altered and almost ruined Days, I think Hogan showed us it could be returned to normal if given time. As boring as it is right now, it is a traditional soap at this point.

We agree totally on that. J&M fans scream for their agenda. Bope fans want Hope to pop out a kid every two years. Stayla fans want more drama between the two. Ejami fans suspend reason. Lumi fans take the phrase "Never Give Up" to heart and still like the couple even though they lost their punch long ago.

Now that I've offended people (honestly not my intention)..I just wanted to make a humble point that I hope is taken well.....Fan Bases Screaming For Their Way Have Hurt This Show. Every soap has differing fanbases, but with Days it's madness.

We need a writer who will write for this show in an even, fair, and balanced way. It needs a good writer who knows the past well and will write umbrella stories.

MAYBE: SSM, but I think she didn't cut it last time. The Jack and Jenn circus thing still makes me shiver and hang my head in embarassment. It was insulting. However, she followed Reilly, and that was impossible. She is a good writer, I think. She just found this show at a rotten time.

I would take Reilly alone before I would take Higley alone. BUT, he needs a good character writer to balance him. If he comes back, I hope he's on a team.

Dena Higly should be fired, she is what killed OLTL, now look at OLTL that she is gone. The show is off the hook now. I never miss a show, where as DOOL I could careless if it goes off the air. John and Marlena=zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz the worst couple to ever be put together in all of daytime tv. John killed Marlena years ago. which is sad for the actress as she is talented beyond words and all she has been given is being given quick sound my her borng counter part. LOOK where DOOL is now VS where it was in the 80's. DOOL is gone it is washed up. Mr. Corday can and never will get it together, he wants to retire you can tell. Fire em all and kill DOOL....
