Judging by Julia Barr's one episode, and the ranking for Alexandra Dedarrio and Max Alexander, this had to have been just after Frons took over and replaced Culliton with Rayfield as HW, and when the whole Fusion/"AMC as Sex in the City" nonsense began. Culliton kept Brooke front burner and wanted to continue doing so. When Frons saw that Culliton's story plans continued to have Brooke in the forefront, he axed him and hired Rayfield, who turned Brooke into window dressing, which, except for a few momentary bumps into the spotlight with Phoebe's and Edmund's deaths, continued until she quit. Nice going Frons!

Barr was such a treasure and the best actress on the show. And an audience favorite to boot! To dump Barr in the first place was bad enough, but to not even give her a proper sendoff and have her just fade into limboland with nary a mention was just insulting to the actress and the audience. Frons/Carruthers/McTavish should be ashamed of themselves.

The Fusion stuff started in Summer 2002, with Culliton being replaced by Rayfield in late 2002. By this time, Rayfield's ilk was all over the show, with JR, Jamie, Laurie, and Joni on almost everyday and the ridiculous pairings of Greenlee and Carlos and Maggie and Henry. By March, though, I think all that started to cool down, since the teens' episode counts are down.

And people wonder why McTavish was considered saving grace in 2003.

I felt Brooke needed to be backburnered. I thought she was absolutely unbearable during Maria's return. They runed her. I dont think I hated her more than during that time and I needed a break from her in order to give her some time to be redeemed. It didnt help that I already lost patience with her just months earlier during the Leo/Laura story. She was a mess and I wasnt sad to see her be put on the side. Sometimes thats the best way to fix a character and she needed it
