The American Family Association is calling on Procter & Gamble to adopt a neutrality policy on controversial issues, especially when it comes to pushing the homosexual agenda on network television.

Procter & Gamble (P&G) owns the long-running soap opera As the World Turns, which features a fictional romance between two young men. In fact, last August the CBS daytime soap became the first to feature two homosexual men kissing. But since then, the network and P&G have received letters of criticism from viewers -- many of whom want to see more affection between the fictional characters.

The company's actions have also prompted the American Family Association (AFA) to issue an "Action Alert" against P&G. Randy Sharp, AFA's director of special projects, says P&G should stop pushing the homosexual agenda. "What Procter & Gamble has done by not having a neutrality policy on any controversial issue [is] they've now put themselves in the middle of this battle between homosexual activists and those who aspire to more traditional family values -- especially on network TV in the public forum," argues Sharp.

The AFA spokesman is hopeful P&G will simply opt not to get involved in controversial topics, such as a homosexual kiss on television, and adopt a policy toward that end. But "the best thing that they could do," he suggests, "is to go ahead and drop these two characters [from the show]."

Sharp stresses AFA is not calling for a boycott of P&G, but suggests pro-family activists contact the company and see how P&G executives respond to requests that the characters be removed from the plot.

This is why it is worth protesting, because to some the mere act of certain people existing now qualifies as a controversy, and P&G takes those people and their opinins into account.

Figures.......Sometimes this is why it's best to just be quiet. I wouldn't be surprised if PGP decides to write Nuke out or kill one of them off and have them kiss before the last scene.

As if the bigots wouldn't have tried to get rid of Nuke anyway? First of all, they're dealing with a soap opera. They've assumed that they're toying with an industry so in need of viewers that they'd meet "family" friendly demands. Secondly, two guys in love or lust is going to inspire much more feigned outrage than Bianca Montgomery and whoever. But it was offended gay viewers who gave the show unprecedented media attention this week. The fundies don't have a prayer.

Does anyone ever want to start a Campaign against these annoying groups that can't figure out how to turn their TV over if they don't like a story? I want to start sending them roommates and thell them this is what they use when they don't want to watch something not tell the rest of us what we should do.

Well I know I personally can't stand my soaps taking airtime away from traditional family values like rape, blackmail, murder and misogyny to promote the "gay agenda".

Preach it LeClerc. We should boycott ATWT for shoving this sick lifestyle down our throats. Because they're pushing this "gay agenda" there is no time devote time to reformed rapists finding love with their victims! No time for incest storylines! There hasn't even been one goddamn sperm-switching storyline on this show since the storyline began! What about those poor young women who'll never learn how to drug a man into sleeping with them because ATWT is too busy spending minutes a month pushing this dangerous story? And John McCain is silent on this troubling development. Ann Coulter is right, he isn't a real conservative.

I completely disagree. No battle was ever won because the minority decided to keep quiet so as to not annoy the majority. Better the protest gets louder and louder and P&G caves in to the fundies. That way at least the battle may be lost but at least the war has been engaged. Now ATWT according to one thread here is going to marry Noah off to that Iranian girl, and that I think will be another effort on ATWT's part to not have to deal with Nuke, and that too will garner criticism.

The question is why is ATWT so against showing a gay couple in the same way they show a straight couple. Let P&G answer that question and then all the people who tuned in for Nuke (which as far as I can tell is the only ratings draw that one-time cellar dwelling soap has) can tune right back out.
