Moment 10: Phillip Dies...whoa that brings back memories. I mean that was just spellbinding work from Jeanne Cooper and Jess Walton. For me, that was the scene where Jess Walton claimed ownership of Jill Abbott and I really stood back and thought "This woman has got something really special, Bill Bell hired the perfect actress...Brenda who?"

I disdagree. GH was the best soap ever up til a few years back. No soap can even come close. The only thing even close to it is ATWT wayyy back in the day and AMC in the late 80's. Y&R is almost always good, but never had *IT* like GH did. The only thing with ahvcing it is when you have it, you lose it and it only leaves one place to go...

Not just because I am a big Y&R fan, I will argue and state that The Young And The Restless is the best soap ever. While GH may have had it's heyday, I think a show should be applauded by it's consistency, balance and overall excellence in writing and production rather than luring in viewers by giving them shockvalue and storylines which are based on a handful of characters.

The funny thing is that in the last three years Y&R turned into a huge mess and I believe this occured mainly because the people in charge at Y&R tried to turn it into something that it wasn't. Pretty much like a GH copycat. I went from watching it from everyday to maybe twice a week to not at all in some instances. While I have been interested in some storylines on GH in the past, mainly in the mid to late 90's, I really don't think it holds a candle to Y&R's brilliance and class. I think GH has had it's "moments", but Y&R has had something more special than that without having the press shower it with praise. Obviously the people who made up this list are GH fans who are better fit to write a Most Memorable GH Moments list.

This is the wrong thread to talk about this in. I have a lot more to say on the subject!! LOL

That is your opinion but I do not agree. AMC is the only soap on the air right now that has paid attention to real life events to incorporate into storytelling (Vietnam War for Phil and Ruth's anti war speech, Roe v. Wade until McTavish rewrote the abortion, Rodney King trial via Deconstruction/racism storyline involving Terrence Frye, introduced the first lesbian character at a time when stereotypes against gay people became prevalent, Cindy/AIDS story took place when AIDS was a huge epidemic, 9/11 attacks with Dre/Samuel and Dre's mother, first African American superocuple in the 80s when black people started to advance in entertainment..after all, Oprah began her show in the 80s, Samuel Woods running for election during an election year like 2008, Lily being autistic when it became very widespread in the 1990s, Jamal Woods divorcing his father Alec was a real life story, Bianca coming out to Erica while today's people were somewhat accepting but not the way they are as of now, Lena/Bianca same sex kiss when society started to become more accepting of same sex couples, Jonathan/Maggie's domestic violence story coincides with the high rate of domestic violence in the world right now, introducing the first transgender character and told the story of how everyday people react to a transgender person).

It is the show's willingness to focus on current events that makes it stand out from the others. Plus, over the years, AMC has also been known to tackle many other social issues (birth control, rape, incest, leukemia, cancer, abortion with Julia, kidney transplant, infertility with Maria and Greenlee, Margo Flax's face lift) along with keeping a solid entertainment value as well as a sense of humor.

Guess who's number 56? YAY!!! And do you know that I was sooo close to finding that clip on YouTube! Not the Emmy clip, but there's a couple of clips POST-Annie destroying the cabin at Cross Creek and Annie's sent to the hospital after she boozed it up and swallowed H.B.'s medication. Sometimes, life just isn't fair damn it, but I will get my hands on that episode one day!

You must be a cynthia Watros fan. I didn't mention any dates, so I don't quite know where you got 1998 from. But FYI I was watching GL in 1998 and I loved Annie, so I was torn for both cynthia/susan. I started watching amc in 1994 and there have been a couple of storylines in which I felt susan should of won for, drug storyline in 95-96, the maddie storyline in 1997 or was that 1998?, and the anorexia storyline with binks in 1999 where she finally did win the emmy.I think my dates might be off but the storylines are correct.

    • For years I did NOT go by Laura's opinion of Luke. Today I certainly do not go by Laura's opinion that Sonny somehow is good for Port Charles. Actually when it comes to being a judge of people's characters, and the issue is Laura, I just remember Esme.
    • Good point. It would provide some conflict with Jack. As much as I am not interested in Claire, I don't find it difficult to understand why she might be a bit reluctant  to commit to a guy who has already been divorced twice or is  3 times?before he is 30. That's a natural obstacle that Claire would be hesitant about. But in GC every relationship is true love and various past marriages are forgotten.

I’m in NYC, and I can’t help but wonder if NYC prosecutors, politicians, etc. ever felt the way that Laura did, back in the 80s-90s when they were taking down the mob.  “Oooh, don’t put John Gotti in prison. The guy who comes in after him might be worse”
    • Happy 18th Birthday, Sophia! I like that Tate gave her a birthday party. And that Marlena counseled him about whether or not he has feelings for Sophia, and his relationship with Holly. I like how messy Tate is and I hope he continues to be messy. He just needs to have more argument/fight scenes with Doug III

Days just needs to work a little bit more on establishing better chemistry between Tate and Sophia, but I still think that’s mostly due to Rachel Boyd. Sometimes, I think that Sophia might secretly be scheming, but with the way RB plays it, (if that’s what they’re going for), it doesn’t seem to be working. Tate was also really sweet and dorky during the party too The drug scenes didn’t do much for me though. I don’t mind that Kevin panicked and ran off with the drug once he heard Steve and Shawn coming, but I felt like that story was the weakest part of today. But I am interested in seeing what happens next. And I couldn’t help but laugh when I noticed that Steve and Shawn had matching jackets Btw, I see Mayor Price established a quid pro quo with Xander today lol I wouldn’t mind that being more than just a plot point. It could lead to some pretty good drama if it’s handled correctly. And it would be a lot better than Xander declaring war on Sweet Bits/Chanel and Felicity.  And Stephanie, finally having her mother to confide in about her life, her relationship with Alex, etc. has been one of the best things about the Paula/Jeanne episodes. The book thing still seems very Ron/Jamey-like though, mostly because it’s so centered around Alex, sort of like how GH used to make storylines about Liz all about Finn or Franco Hopefully, Stephanie talks to Kayla about the book. I’d like to hear more of her perspective on it. I also like that Kayla and Marlena were there for each other as well. These are such better ways to use all three of them. And, we got an update about John One other thing I’ve noticed about the Paula/Jeanne episodes (except for the ones that are worked on by Jamey) is that they’re longer than Ron episodes. Episodes usually clock in at around 40-41 minutes now, as opposed to 35-37, or as short as 31. I like that.
