Administrator Toups Posted January 14, 2008 Administrator Share Posted January 14, 2008 I can't believe Marlena saw John already!! I thought it would happen towards the end of the week. John wearing those goggles reminded of the virtual reality goggles from 1996 during the Paris storyline. Maybe it's not so bad that Marlena finds John so quickly because it's not really a reunion until John regains his memory. But a little part of me still wishes that it took a while for Marlena to find John. What's up with EJ acting all surprised about Stefano when he practically did the same thing to Steve. EJ brainwashed Steve and made him his own soldier. I also didn't like Marlena saying that she's grateful for EJ telling her about John. This is guy who raped your daughter just over a year ago! Belle/Claire's kidnapping was great! I wonder why C.B. Dimera wants them. Is she trying to protect them? Hmm..... Great episode! Can't wait for tomorrow. It looks like John/Marlena/Stefano/Bo/Hope/Roman will all be in scenes together.
Members PhoenixRising05
In EJ's case, I think when he brainwashed Steve he was only doing his father's bidding. He was brainwashed in a way by his father for years in an effort for him to the perfect son or "Dimera soldier." He raped Sami to get her pregnant for stem cells to save Stefano and brainwashed Steve to be a soldier to protect the family and it's interest. Right now, I think EJ is just realizing there is no good behind what his father does. It's sadistic and all about revenge, moreso then protecting the family and it's future. EJ is realizing that this is about Stefano and not about the family. Stefano is doing this for himself to satisfy himself and EJ sees it now whereas before he thought it was for the good of the family or to punish their enemies for hurting the family. As for Marlena, she was emotional and she knows EJ is taking a big risk and putting himself in danger betraying Stefano. I am sure she isn't forgiving everything he did just yet but this goes a long way toward it. He is helping her to find her husband so of course she is grateful. I am glad they didn't drag out Marlena finding him as the show needs to keep up a pace like this. Miss a day, miss alot. Besides, this story is more about the dynamic between Marlena and John. They are going back to 1986 where she was helping him discover his past. Neither knew whether they could trust the other or what the other could do. It's a love story and the real reunion will be when he remembers. It's about the journey and that begins now with her finding him. JER would've made it too much about finding John and we have had too many stories like that IMO. This one is about the characters and their connection and that is what will make this a fantastic story if it keeps being done this way. I will comment more later as I have only seen bits and pieces but it seemed amazing.
Administrator Toups Posted January 14, 2008 Administrator Share Posted January 14, 2008 It's still hard for me to buy EJ as the "good guy" or the "hero" or the "savior"....I just roll my eyes everytime that happens. You're right here. You can play those beats but it's just the JER in me that thinks the discovery should've been bigger after many close calls. It didn't have to be drawn out for months, I think 3-4 weeks would've been fine. But Hogan probably just wanted to get the story going and I understand that. I'm just being picky here. LOL Still loving this storyline though.
Members PhoenixRising05
It's hard for me too, Toups. I like James but was not a big EJ fan but they seem to be taking their time this time with him. They make a point of saying he is trying to change for his son and not just for Sami so that helps IMO. It helps they are playing the beats and having him prove himself over and over again. As for the episode, today was another flawless episode. The Chick scenes were well done and I had thought the writers forgot about what Billie and that detective found in the basement. I was glad they mentioned it and that it was a contact lens. Loved seeing Billie and I liked how she was on to them and so many of Chelsea and Nick's problems from last year were brought back. Nice that Nick mentioned Willow's death too. I was happy Nick pushed Chelsea to tell the truth. Berris and Melvin rocked today. I enjoyed the Phelle scenes and the kidnapping was done very well. The shooting shocked me since Crystal and Rob seemed reluctant to hurt anyone but then hearing it was rubber bullets made more sense. They just wanted the cop unable to help. Very intense stuff with Belle screaming on the phone and Claire calling for her. Good suspense and good ending. Dee rocked today and I enjoyed Bo and Hope's reaction too. Hope was in tears after what EJ said and I thought Ali brought it today too. I enjoyed the EJ/Sami scenes (the lighting and writing rocked and so did Ali and James' acting). I was not a big EJ fan but liked James. I just hated the inconsistent direction for him but they seem to be taking their time this time with him. They make a point of saying he is trying to change for his son and not just for Sami so that helps IMO. It helps they are playing the beats and having him prove himself over and over again. The scenes in the mansion were great. The goggles totally reminded me of the Street Fighter movie when Blanka is being brainwashed by watching footage of disasters and explosions . This is how you do brainwashing. It's realistic, dark, and scary. Loved how Stefano wanted to show Bo and Roman art and make small talk . Dee and Kristian rocked the scene finding John and the music was superb. The little things liker Hope giving Marlena the pepper spray, Marlena dropping it, shaking, and just her stroking his hair as she realized he wasn't "her John." Heartbreaking, lovely ending. All in all, a superb Monday show. It just keeps getting better and better IMO.
Members quartermainefan
The goggles I thought were a reference to A CLOCKWORK ORANGE when Malcolm McDowell was forced to watch violent imagery. EJ as the goodguy doesn't work for me because it was only a year ago he shot John, coerced Sami, and since then he poisoned Steve and Kayla, tormented and brainwashed Steve, tried to freeze Lucas alive, and who knows what I am forgetting. And before all that was tons of other stuff back in the Gloved Hand days. This was the guy that threatened to kill Patrick if he didn't do his bidding, threatened to kill Bonnie, switched the babies on Mimi and Belle, was using Shawn for whatever, and just this last fall he was going to run down Belle with his car. They should have kept him evil. Sami too. She totally does not work as a heroine.
Members KevC1980
Fantastic episode...i really enjoyed the whole thing..I've really liked that the sorority/Stefanie's rape story has become a supporting story..This is the way they should use the younger cast...We got some excellent scenes between Chelsea and Nick today, and putting Billie in there was great..I feel so bad for Chelsea, you can really feel how torn she is over what she has done..(thank you ed scott)...The Willow mention was also a nice touch...I'm really curious where this story will go.. I was so sure Marlena finding John would be my favorite part of the episode, but because i had seen the Marlena day ahead pictures i pretty much knew what would happen..Therefore, Belle's and Claire's kidnapping were my favorite scenes..Holy Crap that was really scary..They filmed that scene with Belle screaming while on the phone with Phillip perfectly...And i liked when Phillip showed up at the end and nearly slipped because of the snow..It showed how fast he got there..I'm still enjoying Crystal, love how mysterious she is.. Sami and EJ--finally i'm starting to like them again...I really hope they continue with EJ's redemption...I'm tired of them going back and forth...That scene by the fire was wonderful, excellent dialog...I especially liked that Sami mentioned that it wasn't a shock that Stefano had John, as he did the same thing to her father, Hope, and Steve... Finally, Marlena and John's reunion rocked...I should probably try to stay unspoiled, but its so hard..The lighting, music, and acting by Dee and even Drake was excellent..I love this new john black and i'm so excited to watch this story unfold over the next few months.. Keep up the great work Days....
Administrator Toups Posted January 15, 2008 Administrator Share Posted January 15, 2008 I know I say this all the time......Blake and Rachel are so good together. I wish they had a storyline that was about them. I'm glad Nick told Chelsea that she needed to grow up. I was shocked when Rob shot the cop too because I thought they were "good" (I think they're working for C.B. Dimera), but then we found out it was rubber bullets. Street Fighter!! Nice reference, man.

Members maconrich
That's how I'm seeing it, too -- plus this John situation is more dramatic than anything they've indicated EJ's seen first hand (figuring he might have been 15 or so when Steve "died" and if he'd even known about it, it's not likely that he would have grasped what was really going on at that point). The look on his face when he saw John pretty much said it all for me - that deep of a shock can/should be life altering - so it's realistic that it turned EJ's life upside down. I thought I saw C.K. listed as the writer (after the and) - but my eyes might have been playing tricks on me??? Regardless, this was a near perfect episode
