Something is going on with my computer and I don't think it is virus related.

This is what happend and its happend twice now. My internet fucked up(im hooked to a router and have the wireless part of it in my room) so I unplugged and plugged it back in. It did nothing and then I noticed that my mouse was going extremely slow and then it just stopped to where I couldn't move it. So I restarted and I knew it was gonna do what it did last time. When it got to the point where you log on(im on xp) to the name it took FOREVER to load it but it did load. I got on and I am now on it but this is the second time this as happend. I've never had this happen to a computer that I had before so I have no clue what is wrong with it. And by the way everything is perfectly normal and its running fast. I donn't think it is a virus becuase this is the only problem I have had with it.

I am just wondering what the problem could be? I don't think it is a virus becuase I havn't had any other problem and I have AVG Virus scan on my computer.

Have you downloaded any software like music sharing software? Because sometimes if you aren't paying attention it can turn off your firewall and change your internet and computer settings. Thats what happened to my computer.

Try uninstalling the last or couple of last programs you installed. Or check the comps error log and see if you can see anything.

How do I check the error log?

And I do have limewire. Usually my windows firewall will come if something is being blocked though. BTW when it first happend the screen went black for awhile. It was just wierd becuase the whole screen went black. Now I have been on it all night and no problems what so ever.

I had limewire too, and for some reasons when I wasn't paying attention the little firewall thats on the taskbar was gone because a virus somehow from a download infected my computer and changed my internet settings and my computer kept shutting off for no reason. But all I did was delete everything that I had recently downloaded and uninstalled limewire. That pretty much got rid of the problem. I have since downloaded it again and haven't had any problems since.

Try running Windows Defender, which you can download from the microsoft website. If that doesn't find anything, try ad-aware, which u can get from download.com. If i think something is wrong with my computer, I usually run a few different scans, cause some of them find things that the others don't.

No, don't use ad-aware. Ad aware IS virus. I had trouble with my computer (bluescreens, freezing, virus) and once I uninstalled that, no more problems.

I've used it for years and it's always been helpful. They sell it at computer stores. It's put out by lavasoft.

Well I had the computer reformatted over the weekend(my friend did it for me) all was well with it until yesterday when it screwed up again. My other friend seems to think it might be the router. I ran Kaspersky free version antivirus and it picked up some adware. Tonight it was kicking me off but I didnt have the mouse issue at all with it so kaspersky might have got rid of it. I think I might buy a new router over the weekend. I notice when I get booted that the computer downstairs loses internet as well.
