Barack Obama Elected President!

I watched PBS. It was actually very good and fair commentary. Judy Woodruff dared to say that most of those at the convention believed the media was blowing the Clinton/Obama rift out of proportion. In my opinion, the media is being pretty weak and allowing McCain and his sleazy ads to define the race. Wouldn't it be nice if the public actually said enough of campaign nastiness?

I think so much of the media is just totally out of touch. If ABC spent near as much time reporting on the candidates, who they are and what their policy positions are as it does trying to stir up some big fight, things would be better off.

I guess that ABC has decided not to acknowledge that John McCain is in this race too.

I thought Michelle Obama's speech was great. I also very much enjoyed seeing the family. Those kids are adorable!! I wonder if ABC and CNN and Fox will hold Cindy McCain to the same level of accountability as Michelle Obama. Maybe they can run a poll saying what do you think of Cindy McCain just like they did with Michelle Obama. I'm really very disappointed in the media.

I won't be watching abc tomorrow, I take that back yes I will just so I can see how much George kisses her butt. There is no outright fight between clinton/obama and the media just keeps stirring up a nonexsistent fight(okay maybe not nonexistent). But I think the reason the media stirs up stuff about clinton controversy is because it helps their ratings. James carville, a huge hillary supporter said he thought the dems wasted the night by not attacking the republicans, but they have 3-4 days to do that so I won't say he's wrong and I won't say he's right.

Had the Democrats spent the evening attacking McCain then that would have been the story in the convention instead of Michelle Obama's speech. That would have defeated the purpose of the speech.

Had Michelle Obama attacked McCain then she would have been labelled a bitch by those very same commentators. Remember when Hillary made a comment about stand by your man and was criticized?

Few people watched the convention at anytime other than 9 to 10. It doesn't matter what the other speakers said. I enjoyed watching Ted Kennedy, but I'm also an old school Democrat. I doubt his appearance had much of an impression on the good ol swing voter.

You know I think there is a small percentage of Hillary supporters who remain bitter. I do not think it is the majority by any sense.

Now I do think that Obama needs to do a much better job articulating what he will do. He also needs to forget that 50-state strategy crap and start focusing on swing states.

Dan Abrams actually brought up about 20 minutes ago what happened on CNN. I was very proud ofhim. He and the other two people on his panel said the same thing........that if they had spent last night attacking McCain, then they would have been blasted for being way too negative on the first night.

People have their own reasons why they say the [!@#$%^&*] they say in the pres. JC and Paul Begala are two bitter old men who can't get over the fact that their candidate lost. HRC seems to be making her way with it......why can't they?

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Screw Fox News and Fox News Light (CNN).

I watched MSNBC. Too bad I missed Dan Abrams. I kind of liked his show and I wish they would have gotten rid of David Gregory's show instead of his.

I'm glad I missed the exchange between Chris Matthews and the nut jobs claiming to be HRC supporters but I did catch Scarborough vs. Olbermann on youtube.

Maybe negativity is such a prevalent condition that it's hard to imagine an event where people focus on the negative more than the positive. I don't want to watch a bunch of speeches that are all about why McCain shouldn't be president. I'd rather hear about Obama's plans and see the positive things about his party. I'm sure the Republicans will spend the majority of their time on him instead of trying to highlight what is positive about them.

Besides Pat Buchanan, I think the most annoying thing about MSNBC's coverage for me was when they decided they needed to compare the Obamas to Bill Cosby's family and then it became the Huxtables. It got a bit worse and then I wisely turned off the tv.

C-SPAN is gavel to gavel coverage with no commentary. They televise the entire convention. I just finished watching. At the end of the coverage they allow for viewer commentary. Watching the entire convention was informative. But Hillary rocked the house. Her speech was awesome. She laid it all out on the line. I have a new found respect for her.

I sggest you watch C-SPAN, form your own opinions and then watch the pundits for entertainment values.

I found it interesting that Hillary did not recant any of her statements about Obama's lack of experience or that he is not ready to lead. She said nothing specific about his character or plans for the country.

She gave a very generic endorsement that could have been transposed into a recommendation for anyone. She said more about Joe Biden's character than Obama's. Her speech would have worked if John Edwards was the nominee.

With that being said, IA that she gave a good speech. I think her goal was more of outshining Joe Biden and making people wonder why Obama didn't pick her as VP. Her effort of unifying the party behing Obama was minimal IMO.

Very good speech.

Not perfect, but it was good. It wasn't going to do everything many are asking for, and some will find fault with it. Who cares? She did exactly what she was supposed to do......she saved her political future. Now it's Bill's turn.

It will be very interesting to see the Republican Convention next week, and see how they frame their platform.

I was under the impression her goal was to unify the party and urge her supporters to get behind Obama. But if her goal was to promote Hillary 2012, then yes she did an outstanding job.

And if that is your take on it, Casey, I'm not going to tell you any different.

I saw it differently. Period. :)

Good for her.

I would hate to see her up there lying about her feelings for Obama. We all know her stance on him. And i see nothing wrong with her speaking more about JB because people, her supports, were expecting her to get that spot.

I don't see what difference it makes whether she lies about her feelings for Obama or not. Lying is a personal pet peeve of mine....especially the kind of stupid lies that you know are lies as they are coming out of the person's lies. This is a main chunk of why I will never be into politics.

I am quite certain that there are leaders in her party that don't like or even can't stand her and she feels that way about some of them, yet they all pretend to like or admire each other when it's politically expeditious.

Her supporters need to get a grip. I watched one of them on CNN bawling her eyes out whining about how unfair it was and how Obama needs to win her over. Thanks to the person who suggested CSPAN because I hadn't thought of that and that will prevent me from missing speeches that may interest me, since all the other stations are selective about who they show and it will keep me from getting irritated by out the butt analysis and these "special" supporters.

At least McCain doesn't have groupies (or it seems that way). Obama and Clinton have attracted groupies and that's pretty disturbing. People should look at the candidates and see which one most closely represents what they can support, which one comes closest to being a world leader (including effective communicating skills), et al. Neither candidate has to win me over since it's not my universe (although I could handle it being such). I'm the one that needs to evaluate them since they don't owe me a thing and I don't owe them a thing and it's my prerogative to cast my vote as I please.

As for the nit picking about Clinton's speech.....keep it going. The bottom line is that she played team party ball as she should have, otherwise abandon the party. The most significant part of her speech was when she asked whether people were supporting her or were they supporting the soldier, etc. If they were voting for the right thing she wouldn't have had to say that and obviously that bawling woman didn't comprehend her. I think she should vote for McCain so she can really have something about which to cry since I know he doesn't give a care about her and her issues.

I've pretty much stayed out of this thread lately. I miss reading the great posts in this thread.

I really enjoyed Mrs. Obama's speech the other night.

Hands down, my favorite speech thus far has been Hilary Rodham Clinton. I think she did a great job of putting over not only her campaign and what she stood for, but also rallying support for Obama. I don't see anything wrong with her praising Joe Biden, as I feel that was also needed.

Some of my co-workers feel Hilary should have gotten the VP spot because "it would be the right thing." I have to ask, would John McCain be obligated to select Mitt Romney or Huckabee because they got votes too? No, it's up to him to choose who he wants, the same way it was up to Obama and would be for Clinton if she were the nominee.

I have a truly hard time understanding how people would rather sit home or vote for McCain/??? than to vote for Obama/Biden. Sitting home is the same as giving a vote to the McCain camp (not that there's anything wrong with that, I like McCain). I don't feel Hilary was entitled to the VP spot. I think it definitely would have been nice to have her on the ticket, but really, that would be more fodder for the Republicans to use. Those two had a vicious campaign, and a lot of the attacks she levied at Obama is going to be used against him. In the same right, Biden levied some criticisms too, but the fact he always seemed to show some form or respect for Obama meant something.

I seriously have to ask if the shoe were on the other foot, would Clinton supporters want Obama to be her VP? Would they feel he was "owed" or "entitled" to the VP spot? I seriously doubt that. They would want Hilary to pick someone a) she could work with and b ) someone that would compliment her style and c) pick someone she wants.

I think it would have been interesting had he chosen Hilary, but wasn't she adamant about not wanting to be VP?

Another question, doesn't Biden have more experience than either Obama & Clinton put together?

I'm looking forward to Bill's speech tonight. I hope it's as good as Hilary's was.

She made it quit cleat that Obama needs to be in the White House for health care to fixed and that her suppoters need to think about people who are hurting and not her or themselfs. If she got up there and took back things she said she would be saying those things on world TV and that's all peole would hear.

U notice the GOP has those atttacks of her bashing Obama all ready to go they were going to use them no matter what.

Clinton put Mrs.Obama over BIGTIME and that means more for team Obama than anything she said anout him.

She told people your screwed if u domn'y vote for Obama and in so many words said that Biden will keep him on track and that she will be in the Sentate to pass her heathcare plan.

It's Bill everyone has to worry about who knows what he's going to say??????

Unless Bill blows it all of Hillary peeps other than the racist. And let's face it alot of her "18 million" were GOP plants voting to keep the Dems at eachother throats.

I also like how Mrs.Obama is having meeting with all the groups and talking to Hillary on the phone and really pulling things together.
