Members Roman
My biggest thing is that I have a serious problem with MANDATED health care. I don't trust her AT ALL to not be in bed with the medical community on this. There are some excellent doctors out there, but they get shut out by this BS. And I honestly feel her making people get health care is one of the things that turned me ff to her in the beginning. That and that fact that every timeshe was asked about it, she never explained where the money would come from or how much it would cost.
Members Roman
Didn't he barely campaign in the state? This is doen so when she wins tonight, it'll seem more important than it really is. And........didn't just yesterday Terry McCaulif blast Obama for NOT campaigning in the state? From CNN: Clinton campaign: Obama ran an 'aggressive' WV race Posted: 01:30 PM ET From CNN Associate Political Editor Rebecca Sinderbrand Clinton campaign said Obama should stop downplaying expectations in West Virginia. (CNN) — As voters headed to the polls in West Virginia in a contest Hillary Clinton is expected to win, a memo released by her campaign argued that Barack Obama had waged an “aggressive campaign” in the state – and that a loss by the Illinois senator there would raise troubling questions about his general election chances. "In the face of grim poll numbers, the Obama campaign has attempted to dismiss today's outcome despite the fact that Sen. Obama has outspent us on advertising, has more staff in the state, and more than double the number of offices,” said the campaign in an e-mail sent to reporters Tuesday. “He has also benefited from the support of the most high-profile endorsers in West Virginia-Sen. Jay Rockefeller and Congressman Nick Rahall. By every measure, the Obama campaign has waged an aggressive campaign in the Mountain State," they said. The Obama campaign has been looking to downplay the results of West Virginia’s vote, spending the evening in Michigan, a fall battleground. Obama trails Clinton by 30-40 points in recent polls of the state’s primary voters.
Members Roman
From CNN: Hagel laughs off — but won't rule out — joining an Obama ticket Posted: 09:30 AM ET From CNN Associate Political Editor Rebecca Sinderbrand Watch Sen. Hagel’s interview Tuesday. (CNN) – Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel, who has been mentioned as a possible running mate for Democratic Sen. Barack Obama, laughed off the possibility Tuesday in a CNN interview - but didn't rule it out, either. "I don't expect to be on anyone's ticket this year. I don't expect to be in anyone's government next year," Hagel, who is retiring from the Senate this year, told John Roberts on CNN's American Morning. But would he consider joining a bipartisan unity ticket with Obama? "I'm going to try and find some honest work," he said, adding that "If [Obama] asks, I'll let you know." Hagel, a long-time friend and Senate ally of presumptive Republican nominee John McCain, has not yet endorsed any presidential candid
Members Roman
And, for some Clinton people who just fail to see certain things, a brief history lesson. Claire McCaskell ran for Governor here in the state of Missouri. She polled through the roof, had two wonderful debates against her Republican opponent, and was about to become the first woman Governor in the states history. Guess what? This Democratic woman whose negative numbers don't come close to Hillary's........LOST to Matt Blunt, one of the biggest idiots in Missouri political history. He's doen so bad he's not running for re-election this year......after one term. But......there are those who think Hillary would win MO. hands down. And now, I wait for the spin. Members Wales2004
This is the funniest thing I've read today. Yesterday time was devoted to pointing out how Obama only made one appearance in WV and hoopla over his wearing the flag pin at that one appearance. Now he's been aggressive? Most of the reports were on how he conceded WV and his strategists were building a plan that didn't make WV a pivotal point for fall. I'm sure some of his supporters and/or the neutrals will point out how false that is.
Members Wales2004
Here's mine: When did MO become important? The key to a successful campaign and run at the WH lies with WV, KY and PR. Don't tell the SDs that people in PR can't vote in November. That sort of thing is besides the point. Next we'll be back to how the people of FL and MI are being disenfranchised unless the majority of their delegates are allotted in favor of Hilary Clinton. Members Roman
She wasn't worried about them when she agreed to ban them from the convention. She needs them, and now they're important. What bullshit.
Members DevotedToAMC
Who would not want health care coverage if they don't have it? The ones who see the statistics (odds are Health and Human Services) of those that are uninsured will monitor them purchasing a plan. Whoever oversees the stats on how many people are insured and uninsured now will be the same ones looking for everyone to have mandated insurance. Members DevotedToAMC
But with mandated health insurance, it would not come from government expenses, right? It would be from the people purchasing a plan. The government has the authority to lower prices....that is at least what I think
Members Roman
The government will set the price with the HMOs.
Members Roman
Ok. If this is what you believe, right on. I don't trust her plan not one bit.
Members Wales2004
I should have been more clear and said whether people want to pay for a plan or not. Certainly most people would want health care coverage but paying for it is another story. Even if the prices are mandated that doesn't mean that some people won't have a difficult time paying for it or that they won't find themselves in situations where they might prefer to pay rent or a bill instead of paying for a plan. I doubt seriously that whoever oversees stats will be the ones to monitor mandated purchases. A person who produces stats most likely gives it to someone else who interprets or misinterprets it depending on the reason for collection and figures usually go through quite a few hands. The reason there is so much inefficiency in government now is because the more money a locale receives from taxes and other funding, the more the officials tend to find ways to spend it instead of clearing up any current debt. Los Angeles city has a budget crisis and California has a budget crisis and probably so do other cities and counties throughout the state of California. Part of it is due to the economy and part of it is due to mismanagement and waste. The solution is generally to cut education, increase fees, and raise taxes. If they have to look at efficiency then they need a study done which indicates an ongoing problem that only gets mentioned in crisis. There are city council members, county supervisors, mayors and mayoral staff, state senators, et al that make a career out of promising to get things done and don't. One governor proposed and got passed a temporary sales tax increase that was supposed to help after either the Oakland fire or an earthquake (I can't remember which) but I do know that it wasn't temporary as stated. I have yet to encounter anyone who knows what really happens to the state lottery money that was supposed to be allocated to schools. I am a cynic when it comes to a plan without a real plan. The idea sounds great but the implementation will be quite another story.
Members Jess
Mandating health care coverage is not going to take care of the problem. If someone can't afford coverage, mandating it is not going to make it affordable. If the insurance companies are told to make sure those people get coverage at an affordable price and the government doesn't subsidy insurance, it just means that insurance for everyone else will skyrocket. I don't see insurance companies giving up their profits. It's not unemployed people who lack insurance. It is the working poor who can't get it through employers. I support a system like they have in most other democracies, a government health care plan. I know people have to wait in line at times, but so what? At least they don't die. I saw the movie Sicko, and I understand that people don't like Michael Moore's tactics. That film had a big effect on me however, When people die because of insurance companies then something is might wrong. I think that is one of the things that separates the democrats from the republicans. Democrats believe that having access to health care is a fundamental right of all Americans. Republicans don't. I have a lot of problems with Hillary's plan, primarily that she won't acknowledge it costs money, and that it is not as bold as she claims it is. However, at least Obama and Clinton are talking about health insurance. McCain and the R's just pretend there is no problem.
