It has been reported everywhere that the individual with the MOST missed votes in the last year is John McCain. The person with the third most missed votes in the last year is Barack Obama.

Here is a pretty good article. I guess we can all decide whether there is some easy answer to the current mess. There is not in my opinion. There is not going to be some "market mechanism" to fix this. We as citizens are just going to have to gut up and say business, no government, screwed up. Government either fixes it, or we are in for a very very very rough ride. You think everybody is screaming now? Just wait until unemployment tops 10 percent.

I asked a simple question.....is he helping? (meaning is McCain helping the bailout negotiations?)

To me the answer is either "yes" or "no" or some other response indicating that it's soon to tell (which means no or not yet). Listing his purpose in Washington is not a response just as going off about Obama isn't one either.

Now it's entirely possible.....in fact probable.....that you and I have a completely different understanding about what constitutes a direct answer to a question which means that you might end up overlooking a lot of what I say since none of it will seem reasonable to you.

What makes me shake my head is how the McCain spin is going. A deal in principal was reached yesterday afternoon. McCain was on his way to the Capitol when it was reached. He sat in a meeting with others and hardly said one word (from all accounts) and now he's supposed to be this big hero who put country first.

He put himself first. His campaign was crashing to the ground and tried to do something to change the conversation. Instead, CNN and MSNBC are still talking about Palin's interview and huge lack of media exposure. And McCain is getting blasted as a punk who won't debate no matter what the circumstance.

This makes McCain look really bad.......and it will be amazing if what happened on Letterman effects him the most.

He's not helping. Injecting the presidential race into the process hurt the process. I don't doubt he was well-intentioned, but he didn't help.

Thank you. So far I don't see where he's helped at all.....I mean he was on tv on Tuesday evening admitting that he hadn't even read the the three page Paulson plan. How does one go into a meeting about a document that one hadn't read? It wasn't some one hundred page document.....and he said he hadn't had a chance to read it....but he had a chance to do all that press about it.

Dude, did you read my post? I was complimenting President Clinton. He HAS been fair and his analysis very keen on these issues.

Where did I say that? I have posted many times in this thread that both parties are to blame. I have, however, offset the dishonest claims that some Republicans have done nothing to stem the tide on this. They are on record as having MANY TIMES tried to introduce legislation to fix the lax lending practices -- The Bush Administration has multiple times and McCain himself has attempted to introduce legislation. It is a documented fact, Greg, that those finance committee Democrats, like Mr. Barney Frank, denied there was a problem. Come on, you've seen my posts on this. If I haven't made clear who I think is to blame and where this problem originated, then I'm either a damn fool or you haven't read my posts closely or you have simply forgotten.

Again, it has been made perfectly clear in previous posts. Members of his party had requested he return to Washington, likely to wrangle in Republicans unwilling to simply buy into the deal. The President, himself, summoned McCain to the table. He returned to Washington to do his job. President Bush summoned Obama to the table to do his job. The rub is the House of Representatives and a large number of House members DO NOT LIKE THE BAILOUT PLAN. A large number of economists DO NOT LIKE THE BAILOUT PLAN. There is a significant segment of the populace that has called their elected representatives and told them they DO NOT LIKE THE BAILOUT PLAN. McCain is there because he was asked to be there. He was ASKED TO BE THERE.

When you do watch the clip it might make you think of Biden saying Guiliani has a noun, a verb and 9/11. I know he can't say anything about Palin but Margaret Carlson is right, Palin really doesn't say anything that makes sense and she says the same things over and over again. It seems odd that McCain passed over all those other people that are capable of discussing the issues in favor of her.

Oh and we discovered yesterday that maverick speak for campaign suspension didn't include pulling ads...in addition it didn't include pulling surrogates either since they were out making the rounds.

My biggest media gripe today though is how local media contributed to a run on Washington Mutual that probably accelerated that takeover. After Indy Mac was taken over by the FDIC, the local media was determined to uncover the names of other local insititutions in jeiopardy and not that Washington Mutual's mortgage loan problems were a secret nor the fact they were shopping for a buyer, but the local media last week kept harping on how they were having problems. They got so bad in their coverage that I had the feeling that people were going to make a run for their money despite the FDIC coverage and this morning it was reported that $17 billion had been withdrawn in that short span of time which I attribute mostly to the media scare and that forced the rapid takeover.

For the record, it was McCain that asked President Bush to have him and Obama attend a meeting. It wasn't Bush's idea but Bush went along with it....and among conclusions that people can draw, one would be that he wanted to help McCain bolster his position.

Reports this morning, Roman, say the deal fell apart before he and Obama ever got there.

This just in -- McCain is resuming campaign activities and will be at the debate tonight.

Explain to me how he injected the presidential race into the process. According to Democrats in the room, McCain hardly said anything.
