Outside of Dark Shadows, I know Tommy Horton on Days happened in the 60s but we never saw him killed off. However we did see Bill Bauer be killed in a plane crash only to come back to life a decade later with a daughter.

To the best of my knowledge,the first back from the dead character may have been Matt Corby on Love of Life.

He was actually Paul,Vanessa's first husband who had been killed off in the late 50's.This occurred around 1970.

Around the same time on Search for Tomorrow,Sam Reynolds was thought to be dead and he resurfaced about a year later.

If anyone can give earlier examples where a character is killed off,written out and returned to the show please post.

A few years ago I asked my much older sister this very same question. She said Sam from Search and that it was quite shocking at the time.

As a child I remember Roger Thorpe from GL, and Nicole Travis from Edge (but we all saw Nicole clinging to the wrckage)

I am certain that one of Irna's radio shows had a back from the dead character at some point--be it WOman in White, Guiding Light, Right to Happiness (my fave of her radio soaps from all I've heard0) Brighter Day, Road of Life, etc
