I don't think this was ever posted, but I ran across it earlier and thought I would post it. Farah Fath is from my homestate of Kentucky....in fact, we only live about two hours apart.

Her 'days' off

Soap star takes a breather at home after eight years

By Jamie Gumbrecht

[email protected]

But the Lexington native decided to leave Days of Our Lives earlier this year, as her character, Mimi Lockhart, moved to Arizona after an abortion, a miscarriage, a divorce and a botched adoption from a surrogate mother.

Fath -- who had played Mimi, described by NBC as "an insecure yet effervescent young heroine," since she was about 15 -- auditioned for a few prime-time pilots, but she wound up taking a screen test for a role on the ABC soap opera One Life to Live. She didn't get the part, but was instead offered a four-year contract on a role that will be written for her.

Perhaps the best part about the job change? She's getting to spend a few months at home in Lexington before moving from Los Angeles to New York for work. She's indulging in patios around town, at Murray's and Dudley's, to grab a meal and a glass of wine, and meeting up with old pals from Jessie Clark Middle School and Lafayette High School.

"I'm basically having my cake and eating it, too," says Fath, 23. "I'm getting to do things that I have wanted to do for a long time, like go to my cousin's baseball games and go to dinner with my aunt and uncle. I sleep in a lot. I have wanted to come home and stay home for an extended stay since I moved away. I think this is the greatest place on earth."

Because she's not one to relax for too long, she's also running a Soap Opera Boot Camp at Images Modeling and Talent Agency, the same organization where she got her start. Campers will perform from actual scripts, learning about life behind the scenes. If they make a mistake, such as missing lines or slacking off on memorization, they'll drop and give her 20 push-ups.

"I'm going to try to make it as close as possible to the real thing," Fath says.

Question: What was it like to grow up on the set of Days?

Answer: We had a little schoolroom on the set. I worked with tutors, but there was only one other person in my class. It was a huge change; it happened fast.

I spent my summers and my sick days from school watching these people, and all of a sudden, they were my family. I was 2,000 miles away from my real family. I wouldn't have tried it any other way. I just really, really wanted to be out there.

Q: What was your favorite story line?

A: My favorite story line was when (Mimi) and Shawn first started to develop feelings for each other. It was fun playing that awkwardness. I just adore Jason Cook. We just had so much fun; we never thought they would like our characters together. That was the most fun I had on the show.

Q: Why did you decide to leave?

A: I lost a lot of sleep over it. I was leaving a great job where I had quite a bit of stability. I could've stayed for who knows how long. My co-stars had left. It's always nice to work with different people, but we had made our characters who they were, it was younger people, different people, and it didn't feel the same. It was time for me to try something different.

Q: Who is your new character on One Life to Live?

A: I don't know the character. I'm in for a big surprise. I have no idea what I'm going to be playing. They'll tell me about a week before. I was really attached to my character on Days. I'm hoping my role on One Life to Live isn't too much like Mimi. I would like her to be crazy and psychotic and be a bad girl and evil and steal everyone's babies. It would be something different and really fun.

Q: Do you still watch soap operas?

A: I have to be honest, no. I haven't even watched Days since I left. It's kind of ruined it for me. I know what goes on behind the scenes. We always mingle. Every soap actor, whether they admit it or not, reads Soap Opera Digest every week. You see them at parties. When I watch a soap, I'm watching my friends act. I have friends on every single soap opera. It's like every other job. Sometimes you'll have an in-office crush or something, they act on it, or they don't. There's gossip going on. It's just a typical workplace.

Q: What advice do you have for people interested in acting, especially for soap operas?

A: If they have aspirations to get in the business, be an actor, even specifically soap operas, it's a lot of hard work. If you're not serious, you'll be fired or recast in two seconds, without them batting an eye. You have to be on your game. Sometimes you feel the glamour part, but the daily grind is tough stuff.

I can't say that I miss Farah or Mimi. Maybe part of me still does. The Lockhart family is just a part of the past I don't want to see ever revisted. There's already too much of a threat with this new Kiriakis/Lockhart baby.

I hope she gets a good role on OLTL. I will be watching for her. I hope it's nothing like Mimi.

I used to like her then hated her and went back to liking her again until her last day...where I went back to disliking her.

I don't miss her and think Days is better off without her.

I've always liked Farah. She could be so hot sometimes with the proper hair style. LOL

I think DAYS needs to recast Mimi if they're going to tell this story about Phil/Mimi's kid. It wouldn't be as good or complete if the mother of the baby wasn't there.

I agree Toups. To tell the story right, Mimi definitely needs to be re-cast. And re-pair Meems with Shawn.
