Saving GL or Creating a new soap?

Uh, you said that "GL hasn't had a 2.5 in years" and tried to make it seem like ATWT was better by saying it had a 3.0 earlier this year. However, that's an invalid comparison since they are in different situations. ATWT hasn't faced the same choking budget cut that GL has nor has it been given an inconsistant time schedule or wiped out from being aired in several places.

Well obviously I don't pay enough damm attention to GL ratings because all I see everyweek is a 2.2 or under and yea (Maybe if the HH and TV goes up, it wont be in the position its in), ATWT ratings are up and down but it still has a "greater" chance of going up unlike GL which I think a 2.3 is the show core audience..Now me being a ABC soap fan, I find it very strange that CBS and P&G seem more committed to WT and everyone knows it!!!

let's talk numbers.

considering that GL has less budget than ATWT, it is in different timeslots across the country, endured cancelation rumors a couple of years ago,it's not being shown in a few markets and that ATWT does not carry along the YR and B&B audience being an eternal sloppy lead-in (audience drops more than 30%)...with all that in mind (ATWT budget, fixed time slot,no market problems)...GL is doing much better than ATWT .

GL is doing better. Considering that GL has a solid base of viewers (no sharp decline like ATWT, no surprises, stability(9 letters that time-slot buyers love) , it is the most nominated and acclaimed soap this year at the emmy awards and is costing P&G much less to produce, if we are talking about a show being cancelled then ATWT is way much closer to cancelation than GL.

sadly, ATWT is slowly on the same path as Days of our Lives: Expensive to make and in an audience quicksand. At the CBS daytime lineup, ATWT is the weakest link.

GL is doing better??? Do you see WT firing off half the cast and crew??

Do you see WT with cheap sets??? Dont think so..

Unlike GL, ATWT ratings could easily be fixed and even with that. With all the special promotions P&G and CBS seem to be giving ATWT, I dont see it going down the same track as GL.

On the other hand, I see Days going down the same track as GL

Then why did you state that GL hasn't hit a 2.5 in years?

 Kendall, you're missing the point.

We're focusing on ratings and numbers here. People love to use ratings to support soap cancellation and me and mamasita are pointing out that when you take in all the things that GL has going against it (yeah, that includes their horrendous budget cuts and awful sets), the ratings are not much lower (right now it's only 0.2 away from ATWT and has been only 0.1 away from tying other soaps many times before) and is not dropping nearly as badly as the other soaps.

I'm not sure what the avg. for ATWT was last year (and I'm too lazy to check...haha) but I believe they were around 2.6. This year, it seems like they've been sitting around the 2.3 mark (someone correct me if I'm wrong). The gap between Days last year and this year (or even earlier this year and now) is a remarkable drop...and the fact that they have been below GL in the ratings list is enough proof of that.

GL has also dropped..it was around 2.3 for the most part last year and is now hovering around 2.0/2.1. But again, you'd think that the drop should be even larger...considering how so-called "better soaps" like Days and ATWT are dropping in numbers.
