DAYS: Kola Boof blasts NBC Pres. Kevin Reilly

There's so much to unpack in Boof's comments that to write her off in that fashion is doing a disservice to one of the few people who still gives a sh*t about this show. And to meet "crazy" comments with more crazy comments? Yeah, that really provides you with the upper-hand of morality. I would call it irony, but that would require me to be surprised on some level.

And Kenny, way to nail it on several occassions in this thread. Deidre's probably the last actor I could see wanting any socially progressive storylines on this show (I mean, why write anything relevant to the times when you can just slip into a "warm bath of love?") I just wanted to add that I enjoyed reading your posts, fellow old-timer! ;)

I just saw the comments on the marlena board. Where is the [!@#$%^&*] hate coming from, especially because she loves Marlena and John so much as characters. They certainly seem like a very conservative bunch; would they lose their minds if they heard the Deidre rumors? lol

I may not like all of [!@#$%^&*]'s ideas but I love her enthusiasm for the soaps. Even if her stories did tank I would at least expect a reasonable explanation for why they happened in the first place unlike some certain soaps I currently watch and their storyline dictated writing. I agree the genre needs to take risks but it also needs something to keep long time viewers hooked because they really are the gateway to new viewers. The way the networks are working currently though is not helping the situation. The shocking stories are coming out of left field and the characters we love are not even recogonizible. Untill they treat soap viewers as people who have actual functioning brains they will continue to bleed viewers.

What's funny, because I've actually read [!@#$%^&*]'s novels. She IS very conservative and old fashioned.

She writes these traditionalist type core family themed characters and then the "sinners" and the "world" descends

down upon them vultures! Her books are like old Hollywood movies man.

I think she's calling for more realistic treatment of sex and race on the soaps. She wants to see gay characters,

women losing their men because their implants popped, then the chick went on drugs because of the pain of the

implant popping and then somebody discovered the town minister did a porn flick when he was younger and they

blackmailed him. I mean I admit I can't speak for her but I think she wants the core families and tradition but wants

them to face new more realistic issues and have it be done honestly.

Her books are "black themed" but they're really great reads that's why I started hyping her last summer, because

I couldn't believe she of all people was working on a soap opera! She's like the Grace Jones of book world.

Right on! I've read a couple of her books, before I even knew she was writing for soaps,(a friend introduced me to her) and fell in love instantly. She does have this old hollywood flare to her work and I can just imagine if she were to helm a soap what it would look like......fantastic! Very cool. :)

I don't know how conservative she can be if, on more than one occasion, she has championed and really pushed for a storyline about a threesome and a woman who rises up in church and admits how HOT it was and how unashamed she is of her threesome. What a SKANK! (The character). Don't get me wrong, in privacy, it's HOT, but in public? Throw stones at the [!@#$%^&*]!

I think Agnes Nixon wrote stuff like that on AMC and OLTL to be honest.

I think of Karen and the other prostitutes on OLTL in the 70's and Billie Clyde and prostitute Donna on AMC.

That stuff was RACY back then and her ideas remind me of that kind of stuff. She seems to like to have the

church and "guilt" at the core of everything. The bad sinners die or get terrible punishment in her work, but

they're usually unrepentant.

[!@#$%^&*]'s stuff sounds realistic. I think she can still be a conservative, traditional writer while writing the world as it truly is. This is a large reason why I don't like Hogan's DAYS. Scripts are better yes, but I don't feel he's taking any risks, it's very middle of the road. At Y&R Lynn Latham has her faults, but she also has some major balls and I love the risks she's taking.

[!@#$%^&*] reminds me of one of the greats with her bold ideas. I don't want safe writing, I want risks! We need another Marland, Lemay, Bill Bell, etc. But of course we all know when it comes to replacing the ATWT/OLTL headwriters it'll probably be more recycled, burnt out writers.
