ALL: SoapOperaCentral Awards (Final Ballot Posted)

For those who don't know Soap Opera Central has their awards (The Dankies) under way. For weeks now fans have been voting on their favorites in several categories on each show. Now each shows final ballot has been posted. The fans that vote in these awards are usually pretty good at picking some good performances, but every once in awhile the fan bases kick in - esp. at the time of the winners announced.

This years there are some surprising ommissions (especially considering the fans picked these). And some things I just found totally right and just wanted to comment on them. I am in the process of submitting my votes now, and making these thoughts as I go along and just typing them.

Here's the link to the ballot (and you do have to be a registered member to vote in their awards).

Anyway my thoughts:

All My Children

no real surprises there except for fans putting Cady McClain in the supporting actress category. Many of us have said she belonged in the lead this last year, but even the fans put her in Supporting here.

Leven Rambin got a nomination in Supporting and Young Performer

Kendall's Coma which seemed to be really popular around here - got nominated for Least Favorite Storyline by fans there. Who Kill Greg Madden? got nominated in both the Least Favorite and the Favorite Storyline.

Least Favorite Characters for AMC: Babe, Colby, JR, and Ryan

The real surprise for me was that Jonathan & Lily got a Favorite Couple Nom from the fans. (sickening)

As The World Turns

The big surprise was that the fans couldn't even give Jon Hensley a nomination. He was so good this last year too. The fans gave Paul Leyden a lead nomination instead. Yuck.

Jenifer Landon was nominated in both Lead and Young Performer. Kind of surprising.

Elizabeth Hubbard & Colleen Zenk Pinter were 2 of the 4 nominees for Supporting along with Alexandra Chando & Marie Wilson.

Chando & Soffer were both nominated in Supporting & Young Category.

Van Hansis only pulled for Newcomer & Young Category.

Oakdale Slasher pulled for Least Favorite & Favorite Storyline. I guess fans were torn.

Least Favorite Characters: Jade, Craig, Emily & Katie (how appropriate)

The worst nomination by far - a nomination for Simon & Carly as Best Couple

Bold & the Beautiful

No real surprises except for Nick got 3 nominations for Best Couples - one with Bridge, one with Brooke, and one with Taylor

Days of Our Lives

Several surprises here esp. since the fans voted the nominees.

No nominations for Stephen Nichols or Mary Beth Evans in lead category. The nominations went to Bryan Dattilo, Drake Hogestyn, Peter Reckell, & James Scott for Actor; Kristan, Deidre, & Allison for Actress. Only 3 noms for Actress. Totally shocked that they did not get enough votes for a nomination.

Steve & Kayla did get in for Favorite Couple and he got in for Best Character.

Jason Cook & Rhasaan Orange are competing against John Aniston & James Reynolds for Supporting Actor.

Supporting Actress noms are pretty good: Judi Evans, Farah Fath, Renee Jones & Martha Madison

Another big surprise (I wonder who these fans are): Hope being pregnant with Patrick's child got a nom for Favorite Storyline

The Return of the DiMeras and Zach's Death (The Gift of Love they call it) are both nominated in Favorite Storyline and Least Favorite Storyline - keeping the trent that many stories this year were met with mixed emotions from fans.

I love the least favorite character noms here: Alex North, Chelsea, Patrick Lockhart, and Willow Stark (they have her as Sharp though) - guess who I want to win that one. LOL

General Hospital

On GH's nominations the fans picked some powerhouses in the 4 Top Categories - but they did not nominate Genie Francis in either Lead or Supporting.

To me they have some tough choices in those categories. I would say Days did except for the fans cut out Nichols who was Reckell's closest competition.

JUlie Berman & Scott Clifton got nominations in Supporting & Young - a trend that so far has been there this year except for Days. None of the younger performers on Days pulled big noms this year.

They are the first show to not have any storyline competing in both Least & Favorite Story category.

In a first on the nominations so far: Liz Webber & Samantha McCall got nominations in both Favorite Character and Least Favorite Character. In Favorite they compete against Sonny & Robin; in Least Favorite they compete against Ric and Maxie.

Wow I just got to Favorite Guest Performance for GH: THERE IS NO GENIE FRANCIS in the nominations. What happened to the fans this year. The noms are Epiphany, Anna, Tony and Noah. All I can say is WOW!!!!!!

Guiding Light

3 Storylines are nominated here for Least Favorite and Favorite: Reva's Cancer; Jonathan/Sandy/Tammy; and Jonahthan & Lizzie's baby story

The Least Favorite Character Noms here surprised me: Ava, Cassie, Lizzie & Tammy. I love the last 3.

One Life To Live

No real big surprises in the Lead & Supporting except for no Erika Slezak, and they gave Melissa Gallo a nomination in Supporting Actress. She's one of only 4 who qualify for Young - so she got there too. To me girl has no talent at all. Erika Slezak could have gotten her Supporting Nomination

Cheating Death (John's death), The Execution and The Integration were all 3 nomination for Best Story and Least Favorite Story. Again GH still holds the record of having 4 unique nominees in both categories.

Passions

ballot is not ready yet for some reason

Young & the Restless

Great set of nominations in the Lead & Supporting. No Eileen Davidson though. They put Jeanne Cooper in Supporting where I felt she should have been. The only other big shock is no nomination for Kristoff St. John.

Davetta Sherwood & Adriane Leon got nominations in Supporting Actress, Newcomer, and Young Performer.

Well GH ended up the only one in the Story Department because Y&R fans put Nick & Phyllis's affair and Who Killed Carmen in the Favorite Story & Least Favorite Story categories. I think that is a first time in Dankie's history that almost each show had fans with such mixed reactions to the stories.

Least Favorite Characters: Brad, Colleen, Gloria & Sharon

FAvorites: Dru, Jack, Michael & Phyllis

The SOC awards are a joke. It always seem like the rabid fanbases win out.

All those stories were awful for the most part...with the Jonathan/Tammy/Sandy triangle floating a little above the others for me.

Agreed. If fans get to vote, I can't see why people would rather vote for the latter 3 than Ava...she is by far the worst character on GL.

I was extremely disapointed in the Passions nominations. NONE of the favorite stories were good. On the other hand, Vendetta (which was my favorite story) got nominated in LEAST FAVORITE!!!

Then we have favorite character vs. least favorite character. Gwen and Beth- two of my favorites-- are both in least favorite.

Also, what's up with Alistair and Noah being newcomers and Precious being a guest? That info is not accurate.

Yes they usually do but the nominations really surprise me on some of them. I mean Nichols & Evans didn't even pull nominations on Days this year. That really surprised me.

In the end when the winners are announced the fanbases always win out just like they do with ours here at SON. When you are dealing with letting the fans on the Internet choose the winners - you always face that problem. Soap Opera Digest even faces it with people mailing in ballots. Certain shows always win those even if SOD picks the nominees.

Dylan Fergus & JOhn Reilley should both be disqualified because they joined the show in 2005. I guess fans just didn't know when they voted them but someone as SOC should have caught it.

I wished they would open that up to just actors who are new to soaps, but they have always done it that way. SON does it too, but I think I remember Ryan saying they were going to change it because to me it is weird when someone like James Scott wins a newcomer award for his role on EJ when he is not new to daytime at all.

Precious has not been on since 2005 so he shouldn't be in the Guest either.

    • When the announcement was first made, I did wonder if other plans were in the works. I guess we can always keep hoping, especially as the show has a small core cast.
    • @chrismlAbout Lisa, agree to disagree. Actually at the time she was the only thing my partner & I disagreed about. Naturally she was Team Vicky while I was steadfast as Team Lisa.  About John & twin paternity, I think that like the 3 pillows was a transitory idea someone had that no one else agreed with. More of the attempt to accommodate Philece. About MJ, co-sign, 100% agree, if there were more degrees I would claim them. About Wally & Felicia, always a fan. Mitch? Eh, take or leave. Although I do agree that WGE is a really striking man. Who have I left out? I don't know so that's all I got.

    • Dallas peaked early, IMO. Maybe not a fair statement as I’m still making my way through the first half of its run, but I think it’s hard to argue to point that S3 into S4 was its high point. Back to Knots. Wrapping up “And Never Brought to Mind.” Greg’s introduction kinda took me by surprise. I low-key dreaded his arrival bc I know he very quickly gets to the center of the show, but even though they wasted no time connecting him with Mac, Abby, Gary, and Karen, it still feels like a gradual intro. The juxtaposition of the ending of the Chip story with the heating up Abby’s plotting is quite symbolic of the changes the show was going through. I absolutely cannot imagine Kenny and Ginger having any part in any of this. Yall, the Gary/Val piano theme that they pull out from time to time is my FAVORITE. I find myself humming it constantly.
    • Bloodshed is inevitable now. It’s another reason I’m glad Black people aren’t getting involved in these protests. As awful as this is, I keep reminding myself that 54 percent of Latino men voted for Trump. These people were put in harm’s way by members of their own communities and sometimes even members of their own families. Too many people decided to touch the stove.
    • Maybe I'm still in denial, but nothing about Neighbours' ongoing social media output gives the vibe of a show that's ending. In today's 'Roundup' video, Alan Fletcher referenced that production finishes in five weeks, but in all the show's posts the cast are as jovial and lighthearted as ever. Remarkably so for people who are about to lose their jobs.    Perhaps they're just putting a brave face on things, and I know they approached the previous axing with a positive attitude. Maybe putting an upbeat face on things is a collective way of showing potential backers that there's still life in the show? Or is it possible that they already know the show has been saved, and we'll get an announcement next month when filming wraps and the show 'rests'?   Does any of that make sense?!
    • A very good week for male eye candy on GH. New Michael is beautiful, Curtis's arms looked great in that polo shirt, Cody looks even more handsome with his new haircut AND we got Marco in swim shorts rocking his lovely bod and chest fur.

    • Yeah when Jamey Giddens did breakdowns for DAYS, he would sometimes state in tweets that specific things were his idea that he had pitched to Ron.
    • I don't, since they've clearly incorporated them into Tomas' storyline, and I happen to like his tattoos, but his jackets not fitting doesn't mean they're trying to cover his tattoos. The clothing overall isn't the issue; it's the fit. And I expect(ed) more from Jeresa Featherstone and her team. Very disappointed. He's the only male, overall, whose costume irritates me.
    • "And OMG, watching the scenes of Roger's return in comparison...the quality in the writing really nosedived. The stupid mask." Very much agreed.  Having Roger hide behind a mask for weeks/months, with it culminating with him swinging in on a vine at Blake/Phillip's wedding....geez.  So juvenile. IMO, Guiding Light never did a good job reintroducing major characters, either from the dead or elsewhere.  Masked balls = awful.  Amish = awful. When Reva was brought back from the dead, she should've just showed up in Springfield as Reva, and informed everyone that she had been gone for years because she felt like it.  She had a four-year fling with some dude who ended up dumping her due to disloyalty. Josh would be pissed and declare that their love is not *always* but *sometimes* and he'd act accordingly.  Her kids would hate her.
