I would have been happy to buy the Y&R soundtrack rights! (well, I wouldn't have had the money, but still...)

Yess!! I agree on all counts. And it's high time those episodes resurfaced somehow. Here's the first actor playing David Kimble. In hindsight, I notice there was a trend with Bill Bell and his writing style where he would introduce a character he had plans for, first played by a very bland, forgettable actor and then recast the part when the time came to focus on that character.

You're just so amazing at keeping track of the dates, we are lucky to have you! And what a smart assumption with the date they bought the tape. That must be the case!

Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread
I don't see where the misconceptions are. What you're saying matches what I've heard over and over. Sweden has implemented soft containment measures. Which is kind of questionable to me, but I guess we'll wait and see. Uhm I don't think it's a matter of seeing which method works best. The question is: can your country's health system face a potential peak? If it can, more power to you. Most countries were not equipped for a peak and had to famously flatten the curve by applying a lockdown. Also: they did not want to risk people's lives, which is something some people keep forgetting. We don't need to wait to know that. China and South Korea are living that "not so distant future" already. They've radically changed their way of living. They've placed glasses between tables at restaurants, they've placed stickers on the ground to tell people where to stand, they've filled their cafes with hand sanitizers, provided face masks to everyone. They get your temperature before you walk into a public building. Is that what you guys are already doing in Sweden? Is that what "relaxing the rules" means for you? I don't think anyone has ever implied that. You seem to suggest that the countries imposing a lockdown are somewhat short-sighted. And that they will have to come to their senses sooner or later. I find that rather insulting to the people trying hard to respect the government imposed lockdown. It's obvious that the virus will keep on spreading but we are trying to contain the *pandemic* by staying at home. If your country is applying a different method I am in no position to judge, but those who are in lockdown right now deserve major respect.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
I'm surprised that a soap vet like EW would be so sensitive. She was not cut to be EP although her initial term seemed to rejuvinate the show. Yeah but comic books suck nowadays. Movie series like James Bond have no other ways to survive if not to keep their main actor young and kind of reset his history. I really don't think that was the way to go. Soaps forget the characters' past conveniently all the time, so I don't see why a reboot was necessary. I wish Kim were honest enough to admit that Rauch was her favorite because he treated her like a goddess. I didn't know that about Patti. I just thought the Selena character was over. Which is why it didn't happen in 1999 either, I'm sure. I can't wait! I'm not that curious about YKW, WR or ER but it's tremendous that we get CW. I'm not familiar with the British soaps but I'd love to know more about the type of matriarch you could see Reva become, if you'd like to discuss it.

Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread
You don't need gloves much like up until yesterday, you didn't need a face mask either unless you were sick. Now it so happens that you need a face mask either way. Weird how things change, huh? I'm just saying- people are confused and it's not their fault. Ultimately they're out to protect themselves. It was the administration's and the government's duty to amp up production of protective materials before all of this started.

I think the costs outdo the benefits! In order to release such an extensive library, you also need to watch the episodes or somehow review them. As mentioned, there could be music rights issue. But also: maybe part of the content is not PC by today's standards and could expose the company to a lawsuit of sorts. Finally, should they pay royalties to the actors? It's just a couple of examples off the top of my head, but I think the whole ordeal would turn into a nightmare.

They must be setting it up for editors to work from home (I hope). This is only the first classic episode. The show won't be back for a long, long time. We'll see what else they'll pull out of their hat.

I'm guessing it will take much longer for them to reprise filming. Supposedly, the virus is largely defeated 2 months after a proper lockdown is put in place (let's say July). But even then, symptom-less people remain, undetected. And they can infect other people. Causing another 'wave'. I'm guessing we'll veery slowly go back to a resemblance of our normal lives, but I'm not sure at what point soaps will be able to reprise filming. Even if filming reprises in late Summer, will the actors be willing to be intimate with each other? Storylines and blocking will have to change dramatically, much like our lives and our ways to show affection will have changed. What we need even more so than a vaccine is a new way of testing that provides results within minutes. I think Hollywood will be disrupted by this and the soaps will be the last ones to adapt given they have a hectic schedule and lots of variables in place.
